Hey everyone,
As all "The Girl Is Mine" physical releases (2-track CD, 3-track CD/Maxi CD and 12'' Vinyl) are now (25.01.08) available in Germany at local stores, here's my report on the original demo version:
I've already known a demo of TGIM that was leaked on the internet some years ago but it didn't have good quality. (2:31 min)
But the demo (from 1982) that's now been released digitally remastered (3:13) is such a brilliant version of the original song without Paul McCartney and IMO the real highlight of the Maxi-CD as well.
It's longer, a bit slower and - as it has been digitally remastered - features perfect instrumentation and vocal arrangements when compared to the previous bad-quality web leak.
And furthermore, it has some never-before-heard vocals, including very high-pitched ones at the very end of it that some fans believed were brandnew from 2007, but they are taken from this very demo indeed.
(e.g. as soon as you'll listen from 2:38 til the end, you'll notice that those vocals are the ones which have been speculated to be brandnew which now turns out to be false.
Remember, the will.i.am remix is build upon this very demo version)
The instrumentation is just beautiful well-elaborated. There are many nice harmonies all over the song, it really is a catchy tune, especially the end which is the climax of the song. Just amazing to listen to another version of this classic.
The Club Mix ain't that very different from the usual 2008 version but some of MJ's vocals can be heard much better, it features a club beat and does more emphasize certain passages, e.g. when will.i.am has his longer rap part.
(lyrically the Club Mix is 100% identical to the usual remix)
