The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

When I look at the songs from MJ's bedroom papers, some of those songs really excite me, especially now that we have audio snippets/descriptions of a fair few!

Very cool titles.

I really think his next album would have been fantastic.

But he was planning to work on entirely new material with Ne-Yo and others in the UK for his next album. So, would his next album have comprised of the ongoing songs he was continuously working, entirely new material or a mixture of the two?

It's really impossible to tell, especially that early in the process. Songs that seem like big contenders can fall to the wayside rather quickly when another song takes priority.

I do find it interesting that he made lists and was very much thinking about his own music around that time, though.

We will never know, and that's how he'd want it to be, because he was an enigmatic genius.

I joined this forum when I was fifteen, I'm now twenty and have been a fan ever since I could understand what music was, and I appreciate MJ more and more as I get older... I have become fixated on what could have been "next"for 2/3 years now. The whole unreleased aspect of his career has been the most interesting to me for a while!

I have a question. You're relatively young and I'm wondering how you view the music of today, compared to MJ. What I'm particularly intrigued with is that I think everyone has a certain fondness and nostalgia for music when they were 12-16...do you have that?

Yes! I do like a lot of modern artists as well as MJ. For instance, one of my fondest "musical memories" surrounds the release of Kanye's "The Life of Pablo", which came out when I was 12. Very into Chappell Roan at the moment, too.

I also like a lot of rock/metal which came out during my teen years as well. I'm into music from all eras.

To understand how much MJ’s already tarnished star dimmed between 2002 and 2005, one only has to consider the star wattage of the celebrities he managed to enroll for WMCIG versus IHTD.

Michael Jackson sold 1 Million Concert Tickets in a matter of 24 hours in the year 2009, in one City alone !!!

I don't know what to think of He Who Makes The Sky Grey. According to Damien, it has vocals, but as we can see, that doesn't mean much. Especially 2002 onwards. I would like to hold out hope that it's complete enough for release, but we need more info on the track's completion stage.

Do we even know if the estate owns the song? It is probably in the possesion of the Prince of Bahrain?

Great recap! Thanks. Honestly given the demo we have, I don’t love the track. I especially don’t like the featured vocalist on the actual track. If MJ recorded a solo version all the way through (similar to how he recorded WMCIG solo) the song might grow on me, but we’ll have to see. WMCIG is definitely miles better than IHTD imo. He should’ve just tried again to put it out in 2005 as it never got a proper release.
I feel a bit silly, because after all this time I still don’t understand the whole ordeal/situation around WMCIG. Do you mind breaking it down for me so I can finally get a good understanding about it?

If I were to guess I'd say the song is as complete as a song like Changes is—vocals that are very incomplete but Michael still had other vocalists sing on it. I doubt that it's vocally complete (or even in a releasable state) given how MJ was hardly willing to work on music, and would fail to show up at many recording sessions.

In the book "When The Sheik Met The King" there are interviews from Bill Bottrell and at one point he mentions how MJ made it very clear how he would only want to start working on music when the time was right. His mind really wasn't on it at that point.
Bill Bottrell: I got Michael's number and called him. We had a nice, long conversation; his kids were running around in the background. We were talking about making some music. 'Billy, we're gonna make the best music ever! When the time is right, Billy, we are going to make Mozart music!' He said 'when the time is right,' like four times.

Judging by the time period, it's very likely that he didn't record it fully. I think it's might be as complete as...Free for example. Verses have lyrics, but not a final vocal on them. Scratch vocals, with fully done BG's.

When is that Teddy Riley video from?

I always thought Burn Tonight was one of the better Cascio tracks. Not MJ level but quite a groove.

At this point can we admit that MJ never intended to record with the Bahrain sheik and basically just used him for free luxury lodgings while Neverland was falling in disrepair because he was broke?
That would be a little low for Mike.

As soon as we admit that MJ never wanted to make music after Invincible (HIStory) again, at least until he had the pressure of being under the gun of AEG.

I think he wanted to make music still but just not for mass consumption and release.....recording songs here and there to pass time, I didn't see Michael doing another full length album after Invincible.

Alright yeah, that's fair, an album is a better distinction. He liked the idea of singles. A great concept. And the classical album certainly got his heart.

He got tired of Pop music, that's better said. But the guy wanted to make beats with Dr. Dre, he was embracing a whole new era. Basically would've been Kendrick Lamar if he kept going lol

Yep.

Even if he was releasing singles here and there, I didn't see him performing them. I wish we had more information regarding the song titles he had taped to the wall......I'd love to know the exact purpose of those particular songs since many of them dated back to the 80's

Well I'm not Michael Jackson but.

Some songs you just carry with you just in case. If it can't make it to one project, maybe the next one. Maybe the next one. Genuinely, carry it forward.

This is the second statement I've seen in as many minutes that is just blatantly false. Christ it's only been 15 years and we're at this point already. Might be time to move on for me.
