No, unfortunately, theres no chance...
BTW, on the lists, there is ONLY one MJs tour - the BAD Tour, and the Victory tour of The Jacksons.
U2, Rolling Stones and Madonna DO RULE the all time lists of top grossing tours ... and have made billions..., Michael Jackson totally wasted the time and missed the chances..., and of course, he had many other "activities" than going on tours, recording albums and being the artist..., thats why Cirque du Soleil is doing his job, on behalf of his... inactivity...

For start, that wiki list is INCOMPLETE! Some great & successful tours weren't mention like for example Dangerous World Tour or HIStory World Tour which is MJ's most successful tour. Also inflation adjusted gross is wrong & misleading but that is another topic...

MJ had 3 solo tours and all 3 set numerous records and Bad World Tour & HIStory World Tour are still the most successful tours EVER by solo artist in terms of attendance (4.4 million & 4.5 million). Today's astronomical earnings are solely the result of an abnormally high ticket prices but if you check attendance you'll see that very few could compare with MJ's tours. That is a true reflection of one's popularity and success. Total gross should be put into the context of the time.

The main purpose of any concert is to present music to fans, to entertain people. MJ was a very smart businessman but he didn't tour because of money he did it because of fans! When MJ did Victory Tour which was the biggest Tour ever in the US he donated ALL his money from performance to charity! He did the same with Dangerous World Tour, and he also donated a lot of money from Bad World Tour & HIStory World Tour.

Listen from 5:42 onwards:

...and for very picturesque review of great Victory Tour listen Jamie Foxx (be sure to listen from 8:02 onwards):

Michael Jackson totally wasted the time and missed the chances..., and of course, he had many other "activities" than going on tours, recording albums and being the artist..., thats why Cirque du Soleil is doing his job, on behalf of his... inactivity...
In June 1970, Michael Jackson (with J5) broke attendance and gate record at The Forum in Inglewood, California (The Forum is one of the most famous venues in the US), and from then until 1997 he did hundreds of concerts with J5, The Jacksons and solo, constantly breaking numerous records, he always did his best, so I think it's NOT fair to say that he "totally wasted the time and missed the chances ...".

BTW, regardless of earnings, IMO Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury performances were something special. The best ever!

Exactly. If you look at the highest grossing tours ever list, those tours are all from the late 2000s which gives you an idea that most of them are there because these days ticket prices are a LOT higher than back in the 90s, 80s or 70s.

That U2 360 Tour is top in every way, attendance too and kudos to them for that, but for example the Madonna tour had only an attendance of 3.5 million, which is about 1 million less than either of Michael's solo tours. And on that 80s list the Bad Tour is actually Nr1. in terms of attendance.

All of Michael's tours were highly successful, like you said the most successful tours ever by a solo artist, so how can anyone say he wasted his time and missed his chances?
Especially when we know how touring took it its toll on Michael's health and eventually killed him. So to criticize him for not touring more and saying he wasted his time is so freaking ungrateful. If anything I wish he toured less and took more care of his health instead. Maybe he'd be still with us.

thats why Cirque du Soleil is doing his job, on behalf of his.. inactivity..

wow.. :( he worked so hard to please his fans, so sad it wasn´t enough for a few.

I don't think U2 and Madonna and others were hitting the road performing when they were like age 5 or 6 either. I think Michael was almost 40 when he was doing the History tour. He did a lot of shows in his lifetime. I wish I could have seen one but I am grateful for my dvds where I can see his performances.

Inactivity???? seriously You use that word!!??? the man has passed away SMH

I totally agree! Michael used to watch Freddie and Queen a lot, I think they probably instinctively recognized the same gift in each other and learned by watching each other.

I think it's NOT fair to say that he "totally wasted the time and missed the chances ...".
I agree, he was raising his children. That was definitely not a missed chance.

It doesnt matter if the wiki list is incomplete, the fact is that BAD tour is not among the highest grossing tours! as well as HIStory tour that is not even on the lists!, one/you/we can wonder why? (btw, during the AEG trial, it was said by the ex-manager of the tour that HIStory had been quite a big financial failure...)
OR, add the info on the list.

It not good if fans, in this case MJ fans, just want to believe in something that they have created = if MJ fans claim that MJ is the best of the best, the best seller, it doesnt mean he really is..., because in reality he is not, and has never been, but most of them want to console themselves with some fabricated "facts", without relevant and factual info, and then... they are surprised that some news doesnt fit into their fan agenda..., I personally find weird how ridiculously the HIStory era is ignored in media, like only BAD and Dangerous tours were something relevant, even though HIStory tour was MJs most successful...

BUT if you have some relevant info, why dont you change the Wiki pages about it and add the corrected "numbers"?

Attendance of all 3 MJs solo tours is great, BUT.... the Wiki info was about the highest grossing tours, and MJs are simply not.

The ticket price is irrelevant, if MJ had had a world tour in 2009-2010-2013..., the prices would have been the same=high. You cant say MJ was a smart businessman and on the other hand... or in the same way... to say he did it for fans... no matter how financially complicated his tours were=failures (at least, there always is the responsibility... to the crew, dancers, technicians and all the logistic stuff=it not only about the artist, and the same artist want to earn money too, but hey..., wasnt Mj is huge debts? What a charitable person he was... when eventually he was the very same person depended on THE MONEY! ... its not very smart..., I call it the media bubble, living in the imaginary world, make-believeing...).

Anyway... MJ missed all the chances to tour since 1998=at least 10 years (because of the smart things like LWMJ, trial, Murray?), we can not live off of the memories from the 90s, ... yeah, we can, but cant say MJ is still better than U2, Madonna, Rolling Stones who are going on tours, making billions.... and Mj fans are still pretending they are ... irellevant, they are artist, musicians, entertainers, and lets say, Madonna... is the only most successful live performing solo artist ever with the highest grossing tours for a solo artist.

The "most successful entertainer" status for MJ is fading away, because the last time MJ was active was his HIStory tour, everything after 1998 is... you know... just a travesty of... "a has been"...

Yes, MJ did hundreds of gigs since 1970 until 1997, but is it fair to say that since 1998 we the fans desperately wished Mj had done just one more tour but he failed, because he wasnt capable of ... doing it... for many "specific legal reasons", thats why his music legacy is poisoned with these things, like devided into two parts, 1-the years of 1970-1998 and 2-the years 2000 and the rest, and during the same time, all the other artists were performing, recording albums, making billions... but MJ... lived off of the once great fame facing jail, going under the huge debts, depending on painkillers and forced to perform to earn money to survive...

MJ fans can not create the illusion of supermegasuper fame if the (private and artistic) reality was very different from the secrets Mj never wanted to uncover.

Thats why we can enjoy the Cirque du Soleil 'Immortal World Tour', there is nothing else, MJ ONE... is fine, but... still, without MJ... and... the latest news - Michael Jackson gigs set to make $1bn, US expert says (Michael Jackson could have made more than $1.1bn (£726.9m) on his This Is It comeback tour, a financial expert has told a court at the singer's wrongful death trial in the US.)

So... still not a missed chance?

If Michael was nothing and irrelevant then I guess it was a weird coincidence the reaction that was felt across the world when he died. I don't care about numbers but Michael touched the world with his heart and his work. He was an icon and somebody who made a difference in this world and a lot of artists today would love to create the kind of legacy Michael achieved. Life threw him some tough times but till the very end he wanted to make people happy with his work and music. I wish he would have gotten to do the shows he wanted and the projects he wanted to do. People need to watch the "mj fans" tone. Like we are some crazy people when that is not true. A lot of fans are intelligent and know a lot about the facts and numbers of a lot of things.

(btw, during the AEG trial, it was said by the ex-manager of the tour that HIStory had been quite a big financial failure...)

You are taking it out of context. The ex-manager said it was because of the high costs. He did not talk about grossing, he talked about income-costs. When we talk about highest grossing tours we only talk about the incomes and not about the costs of the tours. Theoretically even the highest grossing tours can be financial failures if their costs are too high.

What are you talking about? No one claimed Michael had the highest grossing tours ever. It's actually you who seems to measure success and greatness in whether an artist holds a record or not. If Michael doesn't hold a record you consider him a failure which is really sad to see. All of Michael's tours were very successful tours in terms of attendance and grossing. Just because they weren't the highest grossing ever that doesn't mean they sucked or were a failure. You seem to be too focused on numbers and records.

No one said those artists were irrelevant, again you are projecting something you fight in your head onto people here. There are many ways you can measure a tour's success. Madonna is the most successful solo artists in terms of grossing (thanks to ticket prices being much higher nowadays than in the 80s or 90s) but not in attendance. As simple as that.

The "most successful entertainer" status for MJ is fading away, because the last time MJ was active was his HIStory tour, everything after 1998 is... you know... just a travesty of... "a has been"...

There are categories in which Michael is statistically the most successful and there are categories in which he is not and never was. You should accept that. It doesn't diminish his overall achievements, doesn't make him a travesty, a failure and whatnot.

So according to you Michael is a travesty and a has been just because his last tour was in 1998. Gosh, talk about speaking in extremes!
Michael had nothing to prove. If he had quit showbiz altogether so what? I actually wish he stopped touring when he first felt like he could not do it without Propofol (which was the HIStory tour). His health and life was more important than to make someone happy who wants to see his name on top of some record list for his own satisfaction.

we can not live off of the memories from the 90s

So what do you want? Michael to raise from death and go touring to beat Madonna and U2 so that you can be happy?

I totally agree with u 100%

As much as i loved seeing michael perform if he had fully retired from music i wouldve been happy for him . God knows the hell he went through being in the music business and i think that was part of the reason why he didnt like to tour as it did stress him out at times.

I am so happy that Immortal and One are doing so well.. GO MJ! Still doing his thing from another part of the universe

It's slightly OT but as we talked about tours and other artists, such as the Rolling Stones and U2 were brought up here, I thought we learnt something interesting from yesterday's testimony at the AEG trial:

-Meglen: You assume I believe and agree with those numbers because they are on Billboard magazine. Those numbers are often inflated.
- Meglen said that to him, the biggest stadium cap he played was in Columbus, Ohio for a concert and he got in over 60,000.
- Meglen: I have done Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones, we try to sell as much as we can, we got to roughly 60,000.
- Meglen: It looks like they (Billboard) reported 97,000.
- Panish showed Meglen the Billboard Magazine article. He asked how many tickets were sold at U2 performed in Oct 2009 at the Rose Bowl?
- Panish: It was reported on Billboard Magazine
-Meglen: I wouldn't believe it
- Panish: Isn't it true U2 had 97,000 people attend at the Rose Bowl?
-Meglen: That's not true
- "The maximum capacity of shows I've done at the Rose Bowl was 59,570," Meglen testified.

I really enjoyed the first show but I want to go to Vegas to see the new show, I know it is awesome.

I can't understand why Cirque put dates for Immortal in Brazil on their website in june and removed soon after... :(
