The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

I would be very interested to know how much of the 4 hours were taken up by 1993 - can we can infer that the original structure went something like this?:

Opening scene: Neverland Raid 1993, Michael is then interviewed by investigators.

The interview dialogue is used as voiceover to flashback to Gary, 1966 (same as finished film)

Intermittent voiceover referring to Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad and Dangerous eras.

Entire third act taking place in 1993, with a triumphant victory over the allegations…? Ending performance of Man in the Mirror perhaps.

It seems like A LOT of material to fit into one film
 
The article/interview if i remember correctly said Jaffar doing the voice over is in regards to when little MJ is reading his neverland books and hes reading outloud
 
Yes very interesting to see the original cut.
But I think at this point its for the better what we got. I dont even want them to mention the allegations anymore in part 2, apart from what he had to endure and how he responded to them (musically). Critics will still say its onesided towards mj if they told how it was.
Thats why i would prefer now mj to be celebrated as much as possible, also in part 2.

I wonder what streaming platform they will release this on. Netflix would make the most sense and get the most streams. We know it won’t be HBO lol.

Honestly, I can't imagine what a part II would be like without allegations. And that would seem to be running away from it. They can use the 2005 trial, so there's no excuse for not going into that.

It was nice to get a part 1 where we can all celebrate MJ's music, but now it's time to show the disgrace as well. The second part of his life was very tragic. That should be shown as it was.

We'll also get amazing music with it as well.

It will be amazon prime apparantly. I would prefer it to be netflix since I think its more mainstream.
But maybe Amazon has more streams in total inernationally?

Hopefully they can construct a worthy sequel. Should be easier than to recut a movie afterwards into a form in was not intended for like part 1.

Mentioning second half, his birth until pepsi burn is the exact amount of days as the pepsi burn until his death.
 
My thoughts on the movie:

I went by myself to see the original (non dubbed) version (which is being screened just on a few special dates in my city). When I enterd the movie theatre, RWY was playing :)

Loved the beginning: MJJ Productions "feet" und then WBSS blending / taking us into the movie.

All in all the movie definitely was a Joseph and Michael duel for me.
Colman Domingo was absolutely thrilling, and I like he didn´t play Joseph too one-dimensional.
Belt scene was a very hard watch and "listen", omg. A kid in theaudience also started to sobb 😣
I really loved the focus on Joseph´s and Michael´s eyes throughoutthe movie!

Jaafar did an amazing, outstanding job, but at no point did I feel like Iwas watching Michael himself (which I expected and find it a good thing,actually ...everything else would have freaked me out lol)

Best scenes from a cinematic, artistic standpoint for me:

The Pepsi "event": from Joseph and Don King plotting to involve Pepsi in front of the fire place to the actual way they filmed the burn incident (and also hospital stay). That explosion in the beginning, the single spark hitting Michael´s hair, and how they visualized Michael being in pain were presented so well.

The Victory tour scenes and enactment was super! WDAN as a song choice right before / during Michael announced his leaving The Jacksons and his Dad´s confinements was very fitting!

The Bad tour scene was a pleasure to just watch, hear and vibe out to!

The scene at the plastic surgeon office and encounter with Joseph afterwards was heartbreaking, gutwrenching. Very well acted by Colman and Jaafar. I was shocked the surgery took place in an outpatient setting, like at a dental office and hope it wasn´t like that for Michael in reality! 😧

More takes:
- Michael was portrayed too childlike, even "sugary" at times
- Michael´s loneliness was palpable for me. But the fact the script didn´t include ANY friends or interaction / play with his brothers was exaggerated, imo!
- The lack of female figures like Diana Ross, Janet is very odd to me!
- I like how they portrayed the smart, inquisitive child Michael was
- Bubbles CGI was okay, but they "humanized" him a tad bit too much for my taste
- Some scenes were too flat, lifeless, the omissions were also blatant and bold

I wish they would have included more of the topics "MJ as a black artist and the challenges that came with it for him, his medicalhardships, and more focus on his artistry as musician and dancer! ButI get it: As a fan I know too much about michael and his life andthis definitely is a movie for the general public. As it should be!
 
So, this is anecdotal proof of the movies success:

Just had an email from an old ‘niche’ cinema I used to attend. So, I thought, it’s only a small (but popular) cinema, in the middle of some woods (honestly), in the middle of nowhere (you absolutely have to drive if you want to get to it), I’ll see if they’re still showing MICHAEL.

Well, to my surprise, they’re showing it until May 14th! And today’s showing are SOLD OUT!!

As I say, it’s only a small cinema but well over 100 seats sold out, on its 12th day, and showing another 10 days!?

I’ve never seen that before , at this cinema. They usually give a film 7-10 days at most, before the next one.

This gives me more hope for beltrano’s prediction! 😉😁
 
France box office second week ( estimations):

Michael #1 again despite prada 2 !!!
drop only 14% !!!

first week ( admissions : 1,400,000)
2nd week ( admissions : 1,200,000).

yeah i just want to know what "negatives" she's alluding to. i'm sorry for not seeing that it was sugarcoated... how do you see that it was sugarcoated? i know it showed mj in a very positive light (and obviously we all have our thoughts about john branca being in the movie too much which doesn't help), but what negatives is she referring to??

It sounds like the original ending was HIStory Tour Heal the World performance.
 
I'll be honest, I'm glad they cut that original Jaafar voice over. They did something similar with the Marilyn Monroe biopic and it felt a bit cringey at points.

The visual storytelling through the acting and script was great in the film as is
