Thriller 25 proving that MJ still has very good Sales Potential

I want to go buy one tonight. But judging by what people are saying, I'm scared that they'll all be gone. Anyway, this is taking off with a seriousness. And I'm so proud of Michael.

"TALK"/promotion sells.. that is why this album is doing so well considering it's 25 years old..

With Invincible there was VERY little talk, very little promotion, and that reflected the sales.

Once his NEW album gets the "Talk" and promotion it deserves, it will sell like crazy..

I mean DAMN 90k in U.S. first week?? that is great considering everything..

* It's 25 years old
* Many people all ready have it
* Some 'die hard' MJ fans are not even getting it simply because they have the album and refuse to buy another re-release

I mean come on.. That is GREAT numbers for it..

U.S. sales to me are very important when it comes to Michael because it shows a little about his acceptance. But most importantly is his WORLD sales.. which I cannot wait for.. :)

MJFANFOREVER: You'll find it.. It wont be that hard.. U might have to do some calls first to make sure.. But you'll get it.. No worries

This news is fabulous!

I bet Sony & Co. are running around in circles trying to secure Michael's signature on a recording contract right about now. (IF they haven't already set something up, that is.)

I mean, in my opinion, Sony did an excellent job promoting T25. Imagine what a Sony sponsored promotion would be like on any NEW MJ project!

Very true.

From HitsDailyDouble:

Jack Johnson continues to ride the waves of digital sales into another week at #1, with between 140-150k in sales for his Brushfire/Universal album, Sleep Through the Static.
The real story is at #2, where Sony Legacy’s deluxe 25th anniversary reissue of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, will rack up between 110-120k, not bad for an album first released in 1983.

I actually saw the Jackson 5 in concert at Madison Square Garden (NYC). That is one experience I remember like it was yesterday. LOL! We were able to get backstage and saw the entire group just before they hit the stage. They ran right by us, it seemed like a little thing, but I was BREATHLESS for weeks, because of that "tiny" encounter. LOL!

wait, so these figures are digital sales only ??
This is a bit confusing because Johnson's CD is currently #1 on the BB 200 and digital sales charts. MJ's sales will not register until next week's charts. So I don't know if it means that Johnson's sales are based on last week or not.

its amazing how much this album is selling...
i really wish there would have been a little more promotion, or mj would have made some apperences...
imagine a #1 album...

Keeping with average sale numbers.. 1st week compaired to overall sales..

Thriller 25 selling: 115,000 in U.S. it's first week

could mean: 1 million Sold (In U.S.) total in the long run

Now my guess considering no videos, no performances it will lower the sale ration, so I would guess 860,000 U.S. overall

4 million world wide

we'll see how close I get...

This is taken from a math equation I did, taking the average weekly sales compare them to over all sales..

ooooooooooooh my god thats how much the cd has sold man its gonna sell more then invincible just because its thriller and the cover is beautiful shiny and it says best selling of all time so young people gonna be like for real the ones that didnt know it was so it introduces them to it and not to mention a dvd is included. so then they really get 2 for one only if michael would put like say if he had a new video or video for the new album put the videos out first then do all cds with musi videos

Truly incredible. Honestly, I was hoping for a top 10 spot. I never imagined he'd outsell Winehouse after her Grammy domination.

Poor Herbie can't catch a break. He should be topping the chart this week.

They don't count the DVD as part of the sales. If it was a 2-CD set, "Thriller" would be number-one next week. And it wouldn't "out-sell Invincible" because overall sales of THIS edition will go to the OLD edition.

I hope Michael will understand that Thriller 25th sell so much NOT because Akon or WillIam, but because We love the news packages, covers, booklet, and for all time, and his effort to release it.... that's why I will buy Thriller 25... akon, will & fergie are not the reason why I will buy it....
Personally what I did not buy are the singles, with akon & Co., because I will not listen songs sings by by others, I dont feel to go in my stereo and listen wanna be starting something by akon... I prefer listen Michael's voice and the original version.... I dont need to listen others. :)

^^ yes but others will buy it for those reasons (akon and all that), and be exposed to his music...which is why this is being done lol

It won't outsell "Invincible". Dang, that album gets no love. Besides, "History" is the largest selling two-disc set ever! lol.

I'm surprised about this album cos I was expecting it to be something minor like the visionary singles but it looks like its actually getting some promotion

That is great news. Congrats to MJ!

I was reading most of this thread and this is my thing - if fans wanna say that maybe Sony did not order shipments because they did not know that the CD/DVD was flying off the shelves, then so be it. I did not see anything negative about that logical comment. This is a discussion board and we are gonna have agruments. Heck, I am the Queen of agruements on this board. I have calmed it down just a bit, but I still do it. Agruments does not have to be negative.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that.

I bought the single TGIM while the store was playing THRILLER :D I bought it in styllle :D Do you think that that is a promotional tool as well? I think so, because you know it is the same with other merchandise; the commercials really don't make that much difference, it is the products on the shelves in the stores that are on eye hight that we buy! The things that we see first! So maybe if ppl hear Thriller and see it on a promotional place in the store, they are more likely to buy it! :D I think so anyway! :D

So if T25 debuts at #1, wouldn't this be breaking some kind of record? I mean has any #1 album from the past ever been re-released and debuted at #1 AGAIN?

I'm not totally up on how they do things now. Do the digital album buys go towards the overall chart performance?
