This song is not just about zombies. Michael is saying he will save the girl and could thrill her more than any ghoul would ever dare try, as in thrill her lovingly, making her feel the adrenaline that a ghost/zombie chasing you would give.

Thriller, the song, from what I can hear is about taking your date to see a THRILLER MOVIE and cuddling close together on the scariest parts.

Thriller, the video, simply takes that idea to another level.

This would make it not just about Zombies, in my opinion.
 
The song is about a horror movie night.. Him and his girl watching movies, and MJ taking 'advantage' of her being scared.. ;)

He first paints a picture, trying to get her scared.... then he takes advantage of the situation... :)

in the choras and the first 2 verses he's just trying to scare her.. then in the 3rd verse, is when he 'gets close'
