N.Winograd said the most important thing when a shelter wants to become no kill is the director of the shelter.With a compassionate director some shelters can go from killshelters to no kill over a night.

It´s important with a law too which says you are not allowed to kill an animal if someone wants to rescue it.

Sweden is a small country.
We have an animalprotection law, it is interpreted differently even if they work for the same
authority.

We have most catshelters in Stockholm , they can they can cooperate with animalprorection but in Gothenburg the animalprotection think a dead cat doesn´t suffer..kill them.They can bully cat friends who have taken care of homeless cats.
I seems that Gothenburgs cathelp knows the law better than animalprotection.

Every cat shall be checked if it has a chip or tatoo in the ear,you can´t take the kittens and leave the mothercat with risk of engorgement etc.

Some cats are shot were there are, for example a catmother with a collar and her kitten, they had owners.Some are trapped and shot in the cage or euthanized at the veterinarians

Animalfriends works with a gun not against their head but the cats heads.

But things changed, for example in Gothenburg they had started to trap and kill cats at Backa Red, it was appealed, petitions were made.
The housing company who wanted a solution with the catproblem got informatin of an alternative to killing, TNR and the project began.
I have written about it earlier in the thread page29

There are other places too where the killing have been prevented,catfriends have written mails to authorities who then have changed their mind

Cat rescuers are doing for free the job animalprotection are payed for and most times they don´t stop rescuers to help the cats.
But sometimes there are people who live where the cats are and want to get rid of them.
Although they didn´t seek help the first summer when it was just one cat who later got kittens..

These kittens were lucky that someone noticed the book and opened it,but of course first they were unlucky to have such a terrible owner.

In cases with a seriously injured cat there are often disagreement among catfriends.
"It´s too much money,you can help many healthy cats for that money."
Sometimes the cat is to sick, injured and the only way to help the cat is to euthanize it, but many times cats are survivors and recover.

When people read these stories on facebook, newspapers there use to be many who wants to donate money to help the cat .
I´m happy that the cats/kittens get help but I don´t use to donate money to the cases.
It´s easier to get people to donate to a special cat like Christmas but give money to spay and neuter the cats are not as interesting.
So I donate regular to help neuter and spay cats
