Where did the fake fans go to?

Interesting topic...cause right now I have some MJ clothes that I LOVE but sometimes I feel awkward wearing it in public because it's the "cool" thing to do. Like, I've always liked to be unique and I don't want to be labeled a brainless trend follower who is only representing Michael cause it's the "in" thing to do right now...as weird as that may sound. I hope that Michael is always loved by many here, but at the same time I look forward to the trend dying down.

Man I'm sooo tempted to buy a lot of the cute MJ style stuff too...but part of me doesn't even want to get that stuff right now...like just knowing it was all made for the trend...meh.

I feel the same. Especially cause I look younger than I am. I'm 21 but I could probably pass for 16/17! I feel like people think 'that girl probably dosen't know anything about michael jackson and is only doing this because he's dead and its the trend'. bleeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhh whatever. its the stores that have jumped on the mj trend, not me.

If you see someone wearing an MJ shirt, what do you think?

I am scared to be perceived as a fake fan when I know I'm not. :( (yup, overly sensitive)

As for anything else, like the people who dislike MJ, I don't care what they think and will wear a shirt anyway or will turn the music up louder!

I think people who aren't fans giving you weird looks is probably not that they think you're fake but probably because they are over the whole popularity of it all, idk. Am I contradicting myself, lol? (oops)

But I guess time tells.. and that's why they've gone. Ugh.

I also agree with Kane and MySerenity - some of them will actually discover the real deal and become real fans. And bypassing fake altogether will be new fans :)

This whole thing makes me think of the short phrase "catch twenty two".

heh... oh well.
Maybe someone out there understands me.

I wonder when I can buy one without looking like I'm only following a trend, which I'm not. :( I hate coming off like that.

And Plus there's a thriller tee shirt that along with a yellow tee from the official website store (the one that sells the O2 concert stuff) and to buy them would cost me $60 which I don't have enough money to buy them sadly.

That reminds me of what my housemate did. A couple of years ago we were in town and we saw a girl of about 15 wearing a Rolling Stones t-shirt. My friend approached her and said 'it's pretty cool that you're a 'Stones fan', to which the girl replied 'y'what? Oh, yeah.' My friend then started quizzing her, asking which song/album was her favourite, favourite band member etc and the girl didn't have a clue. It just annoys me so much when people buy these things just to fit in, cos it's the cool thing to do. If you like an artist fair enough, but otherwise save your money!

Whenever I wear my t-shirt out, which is a lot, I either get weird looks or comments from people saying how much they love him. Its always great getting into a conversation with strangers about how amazing MJ is!

Im waiting for my MJ T-shirt and CD in the post. My parents arwe sending over MJ stuff for my birthday.

To be honest where i am the now, i havent seen anyone with MJ t-shirts or anything. I did catch a few folk in thier cars blasting the BAD album as if it was just released.

Oy, I know what you mean! All the teen stores sell a lot of vintage rock band/tv show stuff now because everything vintage came back in style...particularly 80's stuff. So these kids go out and buy it without a clue about what they are really wearing.
Man I hate trends...

Another reason to wait until the trend dies down... then stuff will hopefully cost less! So many stores are milkin' it really...like suddenly anything that looked MJ style, went up in price.

I couldn't get any kind of MJ merchandise before he passed away (I became a fan December 2008)...I wanted T-shirts, posters, etc.

I knew they would bring some out when This Is It was coming up, but...:(

I been waiting for Michael Jackson merchandise like since 2001.. In the history of MJ music I have ever seen so much!!

I know, right! Before, I had so much trouble finding MJ merchandise anywhere, but now, it's everywhere! :mello: I wish it had been like that before Michael passed away.. :(

Out here in Los Angeles, there was "0" Michael Jackson merch during and after the trial, for YEARS.
So who's to say people wouldn't have bought and worn MJ stuff even through the nonsense? Now that the merch is out and about, a lot of people are buying in. Many are actually all new fans. Let them represent. Regardless of reason.

Bah... If I'm reeeally an MJ fan, I will represent him no matter what folks say or do. No matter what's in or not in. Just like Michael did his thing no matter what folks said or did. I understand some people are very conscious of what others think of them. But I also realized I deprived myself of what I really felt like doing just to accommodate other people's satisfaction. Until they approved, I can wear what I want.

In then end, it doesn't even matter.

"Oh, you're only wearing it because its the in thing to do" ...my response "Sure ok... *keeps walking, keeps smiling*". :)

But that's just me. :cheeky:

I see your point Nar. Still for me, it's not about caring what other people think so much...just about feeling unique and comfortable in something that not everyone and their brother in law is wearing. I'm just very anti-fad I guess :p

I understand hun. :cheeky:
I hope my comment didn't step on your toes. :huggy:

I found it annoying how some people fell in love with him for like 2 weeks to two months and now they are back to there 'I-don't-give-a-damn-and-I'm-gonna-sit-back-and-judge' self!

I don't think those people really fell in love with him for that short period...they probably just liked the excitement. Just more crowd followers I'm afraid.

Well like I said kids were wearing MJ shirts..kids from the hood lol.. All of a sudden..they are fans.. Iam like.. What! People from my hood are MJ fans? Ya right I don't see them with them shirt!

I agree and I hate it when people do that!
I fell in love with him forever  and those people who only loved him for two weeks don't really care about him then in my opinion!

Lol im the same way. I cant even buy some Mj similar clothing nowadays(I saw the CUTEST military jacket in Ann Taylor Loft the other day :wild:) just for the simple fact that i know people are going to look at me think 'oh she's just another young girl who's dressing like MJ because its cool to now, what does she know about him'. I know it sounds weird but i used to love getting those weird looks from people whenever i would wear my MJ shirts(especially during the trial) now i can't even have that satisfaction.

I feel a bit awkward wearing MJ t-shirts out n about sometimes because I think everyone will think im wearing it to be trendy, other times i just feel proud to wear them, but it doesnt matter what everyone else thinks because the people who know me will know how I feel about Michael Jackson and thats what everyone should remember. It doesnt matter what everyone else thinks, wear what you're wearing and be proud!

Ive also recently bought a car and have just ordered a huge MJ sticker to stick in my back window! So excited :D
