Wait one second! This thread is not about religious beliefs! My question is clear:

It's not about what you're putting on this conversation and you've made it into something else. Now if you were to say, "I wouldn't support it because I'm not Christian" is one thing as it pertains to WHY you wouldn't support it. But your entire line of reasoning as to how you think Michael wouldn't do it because of what you think his religion is, is off base.

Well, I thought gospel music as a genre is strictly related to some particular religious beliefs:

I like pure gospel sound and its uplifting atmosphere and I’d love to hear more songs as Will You Be There or MITM, but I don’t think a whole album in one style would be an interesting idea. And, as I said before, if lyrics contained a religious message, what is very common in gospel music, I think it just wouldn’t sell in laicized Europe, and even in America, as DuranDuran pointed out. As a non-Christian I’d find it strange to hear Michael Jackson singing about God saving mankind… so I wouldn’t be interested too much in this kind of stuff. I hope it’s on topic now, or perhaps lack of enthusiasm for your idea is just not welcomed?:unsure:
 
Yes, I would love to hear Michael do a gospel "style" album. I think his uplifting and "think about it" songs have been incredibly moving. Only thing is, and this is my problem, is that "gospel" per se has always inferred a definitive religious belief in my upbringing, more a matter of semantics if you will, in fact I've never even considered MITTM, HTW, etc., to be "gospel" as I've known it where I've lived/been brought up in the U.S. Humanitarian/uplifting is more what I think of with Michael's songs, with a "gospel" style to to it. Hope that makes sense, and YES I would support and buy it.

As far as religion goes, Michael mentions it almost regularly and even uses biblical quotes, or portions of them, in numerous songs ... the one that sticks out clearest, without even thinking is ... 'hold me, like the river Jordan'

I think it is safe to say, the fan base would buy whatever came out and give it a chance.
 
there are many layers to Gospel music and i purely enjoy the style of composition and performance without needing to recognise its lyrics or message. you can be a raging atheist and still enjoy it.

as slim a chance of him doing it, i know i'd buy it.

some people have this idea of what Gospel sounds like, but it's very diverse..

You go to a christian bookstore or something, look at the Gospel section the music sounds vary a HUGE deal..

Infact one of the only over themes it ALWAYS has is, it's for GOD.. other than that, what most think of Gospel music is just a stareotype.
 
if mj did gospel, he should only have gospel singers as backing vocals, thats all
 
I don't care about any top/Top 40/ or wt? etc

I would love it and I wish he would sing with his Mother :wub:

I have always wanted to hear Katherine and Joseph sing cause I hear that they can sing very well.:D
 
I'd DEFINITELY support it. I'd wouldn't mind a whole album or even a few songs like MITM or Keep The Faith (come on, u can't TELL me Michael didn't PREEEEACH in that song :lol: ) or WYBT. I think it's a perfect genre for him and i think he likes the sound of gospel choirs as well.

And come on, listen to Kirk Franklin...his gospel sound is often Hip Hop slanted and R&B too. :D You can dance to gospel...like "stomp" or "Brighter Day" by Kirk. If Mj were to make a religious song, which really wouldn't be that out of character cuz he does believe in God... i think that'll be hot.

I'd support it. I like gospel music and think Michael's voice and style would suit the genre well.
 
I LOVE the idea. I would love for michael and the group called TAKE 6 to do something especially acappella. Michael would throw down on some good gospel music. He all ready does the whole leading thing like what gospel singers do on his own songs. ex: keep the faith. So, I would love the idea.

MITM, Keep the Faith, etc. is "inspirational" music and not "gospel" music. (Think Howard Hewitt and his hit, "Say, Amen.") IMO Michael does inspirational well. If he were to venture to spread the good news of Jesus Christ, which is what gospel music does, I think a collaboration with a gospel artist would be the way to go and quite interesting--something like the Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams duets would do it for me.
 
I don't really like that New Jack Gospel. I'd rather hear the old Mahalia Jackson or Shirley Caesar style. Or even a Amy Grant pop style.
