(Just wanted to repost the 44+ minute vindication video that I created in 2005, for those wishing to journey back to the days surrounding the verdict.)

The option to buy the catalogue is a rotation option which is built into the contract. it gives both parties, ie, Michael and Sony the option to buy out the other, if the other wishes to sell, but that option alternates every 6 months.

At the time when RF was screaming that MJ would lose the catalogue in May, what he was referring to was sony's option to buy that would have ended in May. He didn't mention that MJ would then have his turn to buy Sony if sony wishes to sell.

The option is merely academic and not to be taken seriously, as neither can buy the other out if that other doesn't wish to sell, and I do not believe that either Michael or Sony will be selling just yet.

Michael needs to do something if he ever wants to come back with a "bang". You cannot just expect him to release a new album and all of a sudden things will be all better again. An interview could clear alot of issues up, not necessarily with Oprah but its better then brushing everything under the rug. And you never know about the Jackson themed entertainment venue similar to the Beatles one...remember just last week Latoya and some Jackson brothers mentioned something was going to be announced relating to the Jackson family in Vegas.. who knows maybe they are working on something? But I do know that Michael DOES need to make some serious changes IF he decides he wants to return to music. Thats the reality of the situation, I cant see how anybody could argue that, even the most obsessed fan.

Changes to what though, exactly? He could give an interview, I'm not opposed to that. But not with Orpah, she doesn't deserve it. What I am opposed to is him saying the US legal system exonerated him, blah, blah. He doesn't owe that to anybody. They did what they were supposed to. No favors were pushed Michael's way. And Michael's given several interviews in the past trying to better his public image, and none of them have ever gotten the job done, simply because people don't listen to him. Personally, I don't think Michael needs to make any sort of changes, he just needs to do his thing. Put out a great album, which of course he'll do, and promotional projects and such will follow. But a stint in Vegas like the ones outlined in that article aren't plausible for Michael, imo.

R kelly verdict is now coming in. It is funny it is on the same day as Michael was cleared. We will see.

Here is something to add some juice to the discussion and perhaps a link (???) to the sooner than they think comment Michael made. :wild:

He’s made his marks in fashion with Ed Hardy, Smet, Crystal Rock and now L.A. based designer Christian Audigier is moving into the nightlife world. “Christian Audigier The Nightclub” is set to open in Las Vegas in an attempt to bring fashionable nightlife in sin city.

We hear the grand opening will be pretty spectacular with a performance by the “King Of Pop” Michael Jackson. After all this is a guy who celebrated his 50th Birthday party with MJ, Britney Spears, Pamela Anderson and Fergie.

In regards to his club Audigier says, “Quite simply, it feels amazing. I feel like I can do anything and this is just another facet of who I am. I have so much to offer this world from what you wear to how you relax, party and enjoy life. This will be an extension of how I do it and everyone will be able to do it with me. Let’s party!”

Let’s start popping the champagne! The club is set to open in July 2008 at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino.

ur right, it adds juice, but they quote Augdier, but no quotes from him about MJ performing. the article writer, as usual, says 'we hear'. and even if the designer would have been quoted about a performance..i would think that reporters and people who invite MJ to parties and get him there would remember by now, that they should not speak for MJ on those things. he complained, once about having too many spokespeople. so as far as i am concerned..what MJ said on the phone about the album is the most recent news, to me.

Me too. I feel someone is taking advantage of the free publicity they are getting with the MJ connection. Until I hear from MJ I will not be moved.

not to go off topic but it seems a juror or some of them asked to be removed off the case and the judge refused. i guess they wanted it over and went with the majority they werent out very long

anyway theres a kelly thread in non mj music so dont want to over run this with talk of him

Let's focus on MJ please.

Thanks TSCM for the great youtube clips. THanks for teh extra news about the nightclub being posted.

Are you sure about that? I'm not saying it's wrong, I've just never heard it before. Also, an option to buy normally means that the other party can't refuse to sell if you want to buy. It's possible of course that the option only means that the other party can't sell to somebody else, but it seems a bit unusual. What would the point of the option be if you can't excersise it unless the other party agreees? Do you have that part of the agreement available?

from my understanding it was only sonys option if mj defaulted that option ended at the end of march.no going back and forth of sony having an option then mj. makes no business sense

that was the case TMK

The media will nolt speak the truth about MJ's relationship with the company. When ever something bad happens it is all MJ's fault, like Beatles songs and advertising. When ever there s good news, it is Sony.

The fact of the matter is that MJ OWNS the company equally with Sony.
The contract was drawn up so that both sides share equal rights.
Now the media will tell you that MJ borrowed $300 mil loan using his catalogue as colateral. What they refused to tell you is that Sony ALSO borrowed the same amount of money using the assets of Sony/atv as collateral. This lead me to believe that both side were using the assets to get maximum loans for business transactionj for the company. Otherwise, what a coincidence.

Yes, RF constantluy reminded the entire world that Sony may buy MJ's share of his catalogue and sony had up to 6 month to buy it. What RF refused to add was that it was a contractual arrangement giving both sides equal opportunities to buy the others share if the other desires to sell. This opperates on a rotation bases, so I imaging that since the April deadline has passed, it is now MJ's turn to buy out Sony, if Sony wished to sell.

Also, what the media forget to tell the public is that both sides of the partnership have guaranteed a price of $1,3 billion for 1/2 of the othes share, so If Sony did buy out MJ's share, he is guaranteed to walk away with approximately $2-3 billion dollars guaranteed. Signed and sealed.

well whatever peoples' understanding is, it is interesting that time is always on mj's side, and he never really loses anything. time keeps passing..passing.passing..and MJ is fine.

Anyone gonna do something different to celibrate today??

yeah..ima do something that is not politically correct, for the first time, to celebrate MJ's ability to speak his mind. i won't say what it is..lol..that's my business, but i am consciosly picking today to do it.

I'm confused. To me it sounds like you're merely speculating that MJ has an option to buy out Sony. Could you not post the relevant part of the agreement here? The part of the agreement that I have says nothing about a purchase option for MJ. Also, it does not guarantee a purchase price anywhere near the amount you suggested.

I'm not gonna get into the whole loan/debt discussion. You have your opinion and I respect it but I don't agree. As far as I know you have yet to post any kind of proof to back up your claims. Until you do, I'm gonna stick with Aveeno et al, who I know have studied the legal documents thoroughly.

very good points....Michael sold Sony Half I would think Mike got a large sum from that...I can't understand why people financial biz is public knowledge any way it's none of anyone's biz...and rf is always saying mj is so poor he's still richer than he'll ever be....

More speculation and a kind of cute article.

*tries to decide whether of not to disapprove of Quincy's, um, 'cavalier attitude'*

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/jun/14/television
Wardrobes and womenSam Wollaston The Guardian, Saturday June 14 2008 Article historyQuincy Jones: The Many Lives of Q (BBC4)

The Many Wives of Q, this show could have been called. The versatile music man - producer, composer, trumpeter, arranger, record exec - has had almost as many as he's had professions, and each one has been more beautiful than the last. It must be difficult marrying Quincy Jones, knowing that someone younger and hotter is going to come and take him off you. Maybe he learned his cavalier attitude to ladies from one of his own heroes. "Ray Charles came to town. He had a record player, two suits, two girlfriends," Q remembers. I love the order in which he's impressed by what Ray has. The record player obviously has to come first, but you'd think the two girlfriends would have come before the suits. But it seems girlfriends weren't hard to come by, for these guys. And maybe suits were.

This is one of those shows where a lot of people come on and say how brilliant someone is - more hagiography than biography. And musicians, particularly jazz musicians, have a habit of simply reeling off lists of names from the old days - Dizzy this, and Charlie that, and it was such an exciting time to be hanging around with those dudes ... you know how it goes.

But then Quincy Jones probably deserves it. He's done it all, and before that he was nowhere, his mum off the rails and in a straitjacket and the family so poor they had to eat rats. There were hard times later, too - touring Europe with a big band, running out of money in Finland, nearly ending it all - before the big stars started to queue up to work with Q. And later come on a TV show to say what a legend he is.

If you're going to get people to kiss your ass on telly, you may as well get top-quality ass-kissers, and Quincy has just that: Herbie Hancock, Michael Caine (Jones wrote the score for The Italian Job; not a lot of people know that), Ray Charles in one of those suits (some of these people have returned from the grave to get involved). This is just part one, about the 50s, 60s and 70s. Next week we learn about producing Thriller, the best-selling album ever. I wonder if Michael Jackson himself will make an appearance.

I dont know if this is anything new. I just took an extract cause the article is kinda long and stuff thats been said may times. Its about a supposed comeback at las Vegas

Extract - Those loans held by the New York private equity firm and hedge fund Fortress Investment Group, which in May sold Jackson's note on the Neverland Ranch to Colony Capital in a deal that averted foreclosure proceedings on the property.

According to the Journal, Colony is negotiating an arrangement allowing Jackson to delay making payments for the time being in exchange for more money further down the road.

Colony also is urging the singer to sell off Neverland as quickly as possible and to emerge from seclusion in Nevada to launch a career comeback in Vegas, the Journal said.

One idea under discussion, the newspaper reported, was for Colony to install Jackson as a regular performer at one of its hotel-casinos, playing 180 nights a year. Another would be to create a musical extravaganza in which Jackson would appear 20 or 30 times a year, possibly with his brothers.

Colony also is pressing Jackson to go on TV, perhaps on Oprah Winfrey's show, to make a public statement putting the Neverland Ranch and the controversy connected with it behind him, and to perform in a TV special proving to the world that he can still sing and dance.

I'm allowed to post this right?.....

This is just a repeat of all the other reports that have already been posted. They all say the same thing because their source comes from the same place. Unfortunately this is how the media is today. Since theyt are owned by the same people and they all copy from each other. If you read all the other post you will see that they say the same thing. The article is also based on rumour ans speculation that has no bases in logic or common sense. They are also annoying.

I actually liked the article. But nevertheless, I'm skeptical. Why would Colony's folks be talking about their plans to the media regarding Michael. It doesn't make sense. I don't believe they'd be that stupid. But on the flip side, if they really are in on this effort to restore his public image via comeback and somebody started running their mouth, they might have just ruined it. As much as Michael has wanted to keep everything close to his chest regarding the comeback plans, (ex: Ne-Yo), even if they're trying to force him to finally buckle down and make his next move distraction-free, they should have kept the plan to themselves IMO.

Go with your 1st instinct...of 'it doesn't make sense'...

the media is reaching with speculation with the very little that they actually know..

if Michael is soooooooooo secretive about his new album and project.. and NO one knew about the deal with Barack until it was a done deal...

it just doesn't sound right.. i take that article with Lots of pinches of salt...
