Let the drama begin! Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon has fashionable start at LaGuardia High School
Who's that girl? It's Lourdes!
Madonna's firstborn became a New York City public school student Wednesday, showing up at prestigious LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
Lourdes Leon, 13, hugged a few friends and chatted with others after arriving at the Manhattan school at 8 a.m.
The fashionable Lourdes - who runs a Macy's clothing line with her mom - sported ankle-high leather boots, a black skirt and a plaid sleeveless shirt over a white T-shirt.
She clutched a cell phone, with a multicolored wristband on her right arm offset by an assortment of bracelets on her left.
Lourdes, who looked around warily for photographers, declined to comment as she headed in with the rest of the Class of 2014.
There was no sign of the Material Mom.
"I saw [Lourdes] in the morning and in the cafeteria," said a fellow freshman. "She was talking to people. ... She blends in with everyone. She seems like a normal person."
The teenage Lourdes, still sporting her braces, is reportedly in the drama department - a track intended to prepare students for an acting career.
Ninth-grade drama students at the exclusive school - which served as the inspiration for the movie "Fame" - are required to take classes in acting, dance, voice and diction, improvisation and theater history.
Some classmates were keen on mingling with the famous teen, but they didn't want to seem too eager.
"I don't want to be like, 'Your mom's a celebrity,'" said her fellow first-year student. "But if the occasion arises, I'd definitely talk to her."
And...

Gone to pot: Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon wears marijuana leaf accessory to first day of school
It’s only Lourdes Leon's first day of school, and things have already gone to pot.
Madonna’s 13-year-old daughter raised eyebrows at her first day at LaGuardia High School with a flashy accessory: a marijuana leaf-print wristband.
Typical teen rebellion or a calculated fashion statement? "The thing about that age group is they are discovering new eras," says Lauren Sherman, senior editor of style blog Fashionista.com. "It's that whole Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead thing that we all go through at thirteen."
Parenting expert Dr. Michele Borba agrees.
"Most teens at that age, famous or not, are trying to form an independent identity and, at the same time, fit in with the crowd."
But, let's face it, Lourdes is no typical teen.
Aside from being the daughter of a world-wide pop legend, she's also a fashion designer, who launched her Macy's junior line Material Girl earlier this summer. She's quickly become a new fashion icon for young girls and a brand ambassador.
"Even though she is just a teenager, she is incredibly knowledgeable about fashion," says Sherman. "Thanks to her mom, she's been exposed to so much more than most kids her age."
With that kind attention, Borba says a teen's image management come down to one thing: parents. Meaning it will be up to the Material Mom to advise her daughter when it comes to her choices beyond fashion: Drugs and social pressures.
"Parents of celebrity children have a tough job: manage their child's image at a time when that child wants to have an independent identity," she adds. "But it is the parent's job to guide their children."
When Lourdes blogged in June that she was "totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts...the kind that makes your butt look kinda big," a flurry of fashion outlets jumped to cover her opinion on booty shorts -- and debated whether it was an appropriate comment for her age.
Sherman adds that Lourdes' highly-read fashion blog, MaterialGirlCollection.com makes her a tastemaker to her fellow teens, in more than just the world of style.
"We are really getting a sense of who this girl is through the blog and she definitely has a voice," she says. "And now that she's in a public school, she'll learn that every little thing she blogs, does and wears will be watched and talked about."
