Madonna Appreciation thread - For fans

Re: Madonna

^ One of the best things about Madonna's live shows is that every song will be different on each tour. It would be so easy to do the same video choreography each time but it's always new & fresh.

Even the songs are mixed that little bit new or in some cases a brand new version.

Sometimes it will work brilliantly (Borderline on Sticky & Sweet) and sometimes it won't (Like A Prayer on S&S) but at least every tour is different and you never know what you're going to see or hear 'til you get there.

One of my many favourite live Madonna performances.

Oh! :bugeyed
I love that version!

But despite that, I just agree with your comment: always something new and that really means a lot! Just to think some of her songs are that old and still can sound really fresh and catchy these days... amazing :clapping:

Re: Madonna

This brought so many memories to me tonight... thinking of Michael and all the time gone, the many different and so unexpected things I have lived since I first heard this song... it's so amazing to see how these songs play such an important part in our lives. Well, in mine, at least.

I love this song and her voice here. Thanks, Madonna. Great, great song.

I also love this song. It is a beautiful ballad. I never understood why Madonna ever sang in her concerts.

"Rain" was a song that stayed with me for long. Besides loving the song, I love the video that is just perfect.

Re: Madonna

I am really loving this topic and seeing the fan appreciation. For the longest time, I used to feel so alone. I was often chastised for my fandom. More often than not it was thrown in my face. This, however, is refreshing. I love it sharing with people who understand and get what it is I see in her. Awesome!

I love you guys! :D

I feel bad when people don't appericate Madonna. It's sheer ignorance.

Boy, I missed that pairing when it happened, must have been during a really busy time in my life. Madonna, Sting (it looks like), and Tupac, now there's a combination that would have been interesting to hear talk together.

(The dark haired person on the left side of the pic at the table looks familiar but can't place him/her. Anybody know who that was?)

I do not remember this encounter them. But by the look of Madonna (you know, she's always changing), I believe it was between the years 94/95. And Sting and his wife are godparents of son (Rocco) of Madonna.

"Rain" has always been a personal favorite, her voice sounds oh-so soothing.

Owwww... sad to read you felt that lonely :(
No one deserves being chastised for their personal preferences . I mean... we as MJ fans could give lessons on that... provided we live up to our preachings  Don't worry about that, if you love the girl, that's only your choice. If someone doesn't like your choice, that'f fine: it's their choice too. But making fun of each other... how useless

I love Madonna's music. As I have said, there are simply too many things I don't agree with her on terms of values and attitudes, but she owes me nothing. I love her music and I love all the great, great GREAT times she has given me in my life. I am trying to learn my lessons. For too long I just keep my love for Michael for me for it was but a personal thing. I still feel the same, but at the same time, I want to scream a huge THANK YOU!!!! to those who have given me so much along the years.

I did that the only time I had MJ in front of me and I am glad he listened and noticed me and felt happy... but still, it hurts like crazy to know I will never have that chance again (not in this world, al least :D).

So I feel the need to say it again: THANK YOU, MADONNA. Thank you GEORGE MICHAEL, KYLIE, etc. Those I love and whose music has made me so happy.

And Madonna... c'mon!!!! She is the QUEEN.

period!

Yes!!!! :wild: The video was directed by Mark Romanek. He was originally filmed in black and white, then was colored by the computer so the colors stay more intense, giving an artistic effect to images. The video is beautiful and perfect. Madonna always makes your videos with the best.

I know the album "Erotica" was not very welcome because the book "SEX" :)blush:), but if you hear the whole album carefully, you will find wonderful songs. :wild: I love "In this life" and "Why it's so hard" this song always makes me think of Michael. There are other great songs on that album. :wild:

Re: Madonna

^ exactly, that's the exact reason Erotica was badly recieved. I was really annoyed with her for that. What do you expect to get more press, a music CD or a book of softcore porn?

But the album has some great stuff on. Erotica, Deeper & Deeper, Rain, Why's It So Hard, Bad Girl, In This Life...

Nicely put. I have always been a Madonna fan. Sure, there are things she's done that I don't agree with or can't understand but overall I love her music and the work she's done. I have even defended Madonna to a couple of people. As I did with Michael sadly, I lost track of her for a few years. But that's because I stopped listening to radio and stopped keeping up with them. But she was also an important part of my younger years (late teens, 20's) when she became really famous and is just one of those entertainers like Michael, Olivia Newton-John, Barry Manilow and many others who made it very memorable and whose music made me happy, made me think, made me forget my troubles, made me sing, made me dance (and that's not easy) and I wish I could thank them personally too (though I think Madonna would give me a weird look if I did, hehe).

Yes, it was indeed a difficult time. The music was good - more artistic and adventurous than ever. A real underground and dark undertaking. Unfortunately, Madonna was in full rebel mode (the absolute height of her button-pushing) and the music got lost in the fold. She realizes that now. And even though Madonna claims to not have any regrets, she's admitted she has no idea what she was thinking back then. I'm glad we had that era though and that she survived her near self destruction but it was a very tough time to be a fan. Luckily, as always, Madonna kept pushing forward, moved past her personal issues, and came back strong with her saving grace, "I'll Remember". It helped to re-establish her name on the charts in a positive light and mitigate harsh criticism.

Re: Madonna

Apparently Madonna was riding the subway here in NYC yesterday. I find that pretty amazing.

She can't get a seat either! LOL

Edit: Only thing I'm wondering about this is...it was 90 degrees here yesterday. Why is she wearing a leather jacket and scarf? Whatevah. I wear blazers/thin sweaters all the time, even when it's hot. I'm sure she has her reasons. Maybe she was filming something?

Yes, it was a really hard time being fan! She did some things that were hard to defend. But that's all part of growing up.

I've never liked I'll Remember, I remember (no pun intended) being really disappointed at the time & I still think it sticks out on 'Something To Remember' as a weak track (although not as weak as the title track.

What do people think of I'm Breathless - the album. I adore it. I think there are some really clever & fun tracks on it. Sooner Or Later, More, He's A Man, Cry Baby, What Can You Lose & of course Hanky Panky!

I think I'm the only person to prefer 'I'm Breathless' to 'Ray Of Light'!

I know we discussed it before, but I totally disagree with your assessment of those songs BUT, that's what makes us all different and that's ok.

As for I'm Breathless, we are in total agreement. That album has a special place in my heart. After all, it gave us one of the best songs EVER, "Vogue". I agree that the songs were clever and cheeky. Something else to take note of, Madonna's vocals are superb and some of her best of all time. My favorite track has got to be "More". Love it!

Well, aside from the paparazzo who snapped her pic. :cheeky:

Lourdes began her first day of school at LaGuardia high school of music and performing arts in NYC today. Here's the story:

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2010/09/09/2010-09-09_lourdes_hs_drama_begins.html

Let the drama begin! Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon has fashionable start at LaGuardia High School

Who's that girl? It's Lourdes!

Madonna's firstborn became a New York City public school student Wednesday, showing up at prestigious LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

Lourdes Leon, 13, hugged a few friends and chatted with others after arriving at the Manhattan school at 8 a.m.

The fashionable Lourdes - who runs a Macy's clothing line with her mom - sported ankle-high leather boots, a black skirt and a plaid sleeveless shirt over a white T-shirt.

She clutched a cell phone, with a multicolored wristband on her right arm offset by an assortment of bracelets on her left.

Lourdes, who looked around warily for photographers, declined to comment as she headed in with the rest of the Class of 2014.

There was no sign of the Material Mom.

"I saw [Lourdes] in the morning and in the cafeteria," said a fellow freshman. "She was talking to people. ... She blends in with everyone. She seems like a normal person."

The teenage Lourdes, still sporting her braces, is reportedly in the drama department - a track intended to prepare students for an acting career.

Ninth-grade drama students at the exclusive school - which served as the inspiration for the movie "Fame" - are required to take classes in acting, dance, voice and diction, improvisation and theater history.

Some classmates were keen on mingling with the famous teen, but they didn't want to seem too eager.

"I don't want to be like, 'Your mom's a celebrity,'" said her fellow first-year student. "But if the occasion arises, I'd definitely talk to her."

Gone to pot: Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon wears marijuana leaf accessory to first day of school

It’s only Lourdes Leon's first day of school, and things have already gone to pot.

Madonna’s 13-year-old daughter raised eyebrows at her first day at LaGuardia High School with a flashy accessory: a marijuana leaf-print wristband.

Typical teen rebellion or a calculated fashion statement? "The thing about that age group is they are discovering new eras," says Lauren Sherman, senior editor of style blog Fashionista.com. "It's that whole Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead thing that we all go through at thirteen."

Parenting expert Dr. Michele Borba agrees.

"Most teens at that age, famous or not, are trying to form an independent identity and, at the same time, fit in with the crowd."

But, let's face it, Lourdes is no typical teen.

Aside from being the daughter of a world-wide pop legend, she's also a fashion designer, who launched her Macy's junior line Material Girl earlier this summer. She's quickly become a new fashion icon for young girls and a brand ambassador.

"Even though she is just a teenager, she is incredibly knowledgeable about fashion," says Sherman. "Thanks to her mom, she's been exposed to so much more than most kids her age."

With that kind attention, Borba says a teen's image management come down to one thing: parents. Meaning it will be up to the Material Mom to advise her daughter when it comes to her choices beyond fashion: Drugs and social pressures.

"Parents of celebrity children have a tough job: manage their child's image at a time when that child wants to have an independent identity," she adds. "But it is the parent's job to guide their children."

When Lourdes blogged in June that she was "totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts...the kind that makes your butt look kinda big," a flurry of fashion outlets jumped to cover her opinion on booty shorts -- and debated whether it was an appropriate comment for her age.

Sherman adds that Lourdes' highly-read fashion blog, MaterialGirlCollection.com makes her a tastemaker to her fellow teens, in more than just the world of style.

"We are really getting a sense of who this girl is through the blog and she definitely has a voice," she says. "And now that she's in a public school, she'll learn that every little thing she blogs, does and wears will be watched and talked about."

Yes. The death of her mother..... :( and the troubled marriage with Sean Penn (he was not an easy person) and his father who was very hard (but it was a great dad).
