Best of Joy - Official Discussion Thread

Re: "Best of Joy" Thread

I listened to 'Michael' in my office after purchasing it at a nearby shopping mall. I blasted it moderately through my speakers. My boss and the rest of colleagues don't mind as they know that music helps me to focus 500% on my job.

So one by one songs from 'Michael' popped out through my speakers. My hands and my brain were busy focusing on my work. Then Best of Joy appeared. That crystal clear voice, the melody and the lyrics. I froze. I had to replay the song again to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating. "I know Michael Jackson is an amazing composer but this is totally grandeur..." I said to myself.

So I replayed. And teary eyes and smile appeared on my face.

Thanks Mike.

Best of Joy reminds me of spring, rain drops, walking, running and riding bike with your lover in a flowery garden or a forest.

This going to be my wedding song with my boyfriend in the future.

Sony needs to release this song as a single. This kind of music is rare in the mainstream music industry nowadays.

Again thanks Mike for sharing your talent with all of us.

I love this song, his voice, his happiness, the lirics, the message, the music, the man.
Simply one of the best songs of this album, by far. It's totally happy, wich in turns breaks my heart for he is not longer here with us to share this wonderful treasure.

As Jmie said, you can hear him smiling, singing happily and carefree. Being just Michael Jackson, the man we love so much.

What a wonderful man.

Why do I feel like he wrote this for the fans?

Maybe he didn't but it makes me feel better to imagine that he did.

I have thought the same thing. I don't know what inspired him to write the song. I feel like he is talking to us and it doesn't make me sad for once since passed away.

This song has become one of my ALL TIME fave MJ songs EVER....

Is he saying "what you doing to me boy" at the end? Sorry if someone's already brought this up.

^^ I noticed that too! lol...It sounds like he doesn't fully say 'boy' though...That part sounds like Janet! :lmao:

kind of a dodgy choice to leave that in, but i guess it doesn't really stand out.

One of Michael Jackson's best songs ever, in my opinion.

Hmm I guess I need to listen to the song some more but so far I can't say I love it, and I must be the only one, lol. It's a little too mellow sounding and all those multiple voices...I don't know. I'll listen some more and maybe my opinion will change.

Favorite song on the album.

- BEST OF JOY (Smile, when your heart is aching) -

At the very least, I now know that Michael had joy in his life during his final years with us on earth. In fact, he appears to have had the Best Of Joy. And nothing could make me, as a friend and a fan, feel better. Best of Joy is the song I dare anyone to claim does not derive from the very heart, soul and immense talent of Michael Jackson. Upon the first listen, during the first verse when the melody moves to a minor chord, I found myself with tears in my eyes. Now, having listened to it fifty times, I still tear up upon the chord change. It is a song only Mike could create - beautiful, happy, happy, joyful, yet still a feeling of desire; a sadness in not being able to have the whole world feel so much wonder. This was Mike to me: caring, loving, open, generous, free, full of hope; also, sad, lonely and longing for more. At his essence Michael to me is the most human of any beings. Only Michael Jackson can do this to me…give me hope, make me feel not alone, make me grateful for what I have and who I am and remind me that there are others out there that need love and help. No other person, no form of technology, no movie, tv program or show of any kind, and certainly nothing deceptive will ever touch that part of my soul. In that vein, the album is worth every penny and more just for this providing me The Best Of Joy. Thank you Michael Jackson. You will forever be a part of me.

Is this song really from 2008?.. It was said it's been recorded in October, 2008. His voice at the end, when he does the mellow 'uh-huhhh"'s and 'all right's do sound recent, but the main vocals sound more mid-90's, not to mention the song itself dates from around that time, although later reviewed instrumentally, and background-wise.

Anyway, so nice to know his heart was still full of love to get back on the track years later. ..

Beautiful review. You had me shed a tear "sigh". His angelic voice just melts my heart. Oh how I miss him!

I think it was Ali G (a member here) who said it was recorded in October 2008 in a Bel Air studio. She said other songs were recorded in that session too. I don't know where she got her information from though.

How do you know the song itself dates back to the 90s? (Meaning it was written then?)

It's total bliss. His vocals and the arrangements are angelic and pure heaven. I feel like I am transported straight to heaven where MJ is singing this to me. His angelic voice in its purest form. I just melt every time.:wub:

I completely agree with you :) Especially how you say, it's 'total bliss'...SO true.....

LOVE this song! It's growing on me with every listen. Tricia70 you really put it into words beautifully about it being as if he's singing it from heaven. Can you imagine how moving it would have been to hear him sing this at a "This is It" concert. I feel like weeping that it didn't happen. Miss him so much!
