Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

That remix is awful. MJ has 2 lines in the whole song. But it will help on the charts for sure.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

This album is solid. The more I listen to it, the more I love all of it. The new bridge on Xscape is AMAZING. Can't get over it. And I'm really loving DYKWYCA the more I hear it. So funky.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I've found a limited edition of the album Xscape:

Lmao!!!!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

This is new, you will be able to store more than 40 million songs on one tape.

p.s. No, it's not a new file format. It's still digital technology. However what is interesting is the space available on it.

p.p.s. From wiki:

Super Audio CD (SACD) is a read-only optical disc for audio storage, introduced in 1999. It was developed jointly by Sony andPhilips Electronics, and intended to be the successor to their Compact Disc format. While the SACD format can offer more channels (e.g. surround sound), and a longer playing time than CD, research published in 2007 found no significant difference in audio quality between SACD and standard CD.[SUP][1][/SUP]
Having made little impact in the consumer audio market, by 2007 SACD was deemed to be a failure by the press.[SUP][2][/SUP] A small market for SACD has remained, serving the audiophile community.[SUP][3][/SUP]

Yep, SACD is quite rare. But the discs that are available are incredible to listen to. There's a file format called DSD that is basically the equivalent of WAV file on a CD, it allows you to playback a SACD from a file on a disc. My Onkyo receiver supports that format natively which is great.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Xscape is more cohesive than the 2010 offering that was the 'MICHAEL' album, it provides a more intimate sound and a more complete finish to Michael's recording's... the estate have gone full out with this project, giving the fans the original demo's which i admire massively, it is awesome that we have two Darkchild productions of the title track but, Michael's vocals are so much more prominent in the 2010 mix, especially where his baritone on ''chaaange'' goes wild, the line ''she's only twelve years old'' on the demo is also extremely unique, the demo of loving you places you in heaven.. whilst walking among the angels and hearing them thrive exquisite through there harps, Michael's voice captures the essence of all beauty.

yeah we have two different takes on the line "shes only twelve years old" between the original and new versions, which is interesting. They did a great job with the original/demos. I was amazingly surprised on how they turned out.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

You know what? From now on I refuse to listen to new leaks. Hearing the two completely unknown tracks with finished modern music und finished MJ vocals felt almost like MJ himself did a new album. I just sat there, grinning in joy during my first listen of Chicago and Loving You. What an experience!

By the way: Dat voice!! I just love the producers for all the parts with stripped-down music where we get to hear MJ almost singing acapella. Can't get over how strong his voice is in all those tracks, especially STTR.

Cool, I also have an Onkyo receiver :D

Personally, i think the estate released the first/early version of Do you know where your children are for the ''original version'' it was highlighted in the booklet as being recorded during the early bad sessions. Which vocal take do you prefer? the BAD Version is my preference...

I think the "original" version of DYKWYCA is the latest avaible downmix that's approved by MJ (from ca. 1988/89). He worked afterwards a bit more on it but those do exist only on multitracks.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

They really should have had this album out for Mother's Day.

The original DYKWYCA beats the 2010 and New version, even though the 2010 had the same concept as the original. Original > 2010 > New

Question: Have you noticed the extra screams during the chorus of New Xscape ? I can't make out what is being said or shouted but you can definitely hear it in the background during the chorus.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Indeed!

I believe that the 2010 remixes of DYKWYCA and STTR for the Michael cd where actually better than the 2014 remixes on Xscape. They are actually not that far away from the originals because they followed the theme of the Michael cd, i.e., the attempt to complete or remix the song as if Michael would have completed it; in their view of course.

More Jerkins' Xscape posts that I enjoyed:

Yes they did try and complete the tracks like if MJ had complete them. And what a disaster that was. So this time they got a legitimate producer to turn these work in progress songs and turn them into an album. And he did that

I have, and i can't make out what is being said either, but it sounds like classic late 1980's ad libs! i feel it is the one version that i will cherish & listen to most. I honestly didn't expect it to be how it sounded when i first got Xscape! that's a fact! boy was i happy when i found out that it was completely different to the leaked version.

They really should have had this album out for Mother's Day.

Which is the case here in Belgium. It's tomorrow.

p.s. The CD has been available in the shops since yesterday.

I second that. Do You Know is a grower, not a shower. I was ambivalent over it at first, but damn, Timbaland did a solid job remaking that one.

my ratings of the album:

LNFSG 2014 2
Chicago 2014 1
Loving you 2014 2
APWNN 2014 2
STTR 2014 1
DYKWYCA 2014 2
Blue Gangsta 2014 1
Xscape 2014 1

LNFSG Original 5
Chicago Original 5
Loving you Original 5
APWNN Original 5
STTR Original 5
DYKWYCA Original 5
Blue Gangsta Original 5
Xscape Original 5
LNFSG JT 2014 1

Something in me says that you went in with the pretense that Michael's original work was the best and that the reproductions were garbage. I don't want anyone to scream at me for this one, but come on. Every reproduction gets a majorly low rating, whereas every original gets five stars? You're the first person I've seen thus far to not like a single reproduction, as well as the first to give every original cut a perfect rating.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Ok, so after listeing number 27 (more or less :)), I do like some of these tracks better than at first. With Xscape I almost did a 180 degrees. I loved the demo so much (who are we kidding? the track was ready for release), and it was hard to think of a remake for such a great track, but the new version is actually pretty good.

Loving you - I'm liking more and more, because it's the most loyal to the demo. They didn't change it too much, and it's such a feel-good song.

I think I know what's missing for me more than anything else - I need that slow/ballad song. Every Michael Jackson album since the Jacksons right up to the Michael album had at least one slow track. She's Out Of My Life, Be Not Always, Lady In My Life, I Just Can't Stop Loving You, Gone Too Soon, Childhood, Speechless, Much Too Soon, Heal The World, Smile, to name a few. There was always that break in between tracks that allows you to sit back and float, and this album doesn't have that. It's 36 minutes of pretty much dance hits. Nothing wrong with that for the tracks on their own, but as a complete package it can be fatiguing :).

Maybe that's why the new APWNN is one of my least favorites. The original almost-finished demo was an excellent candidate for a ballad/slow song that makes you want to close your eyes and drift away. They took it and made it a club hit. That's cool for a Single, not so much for the album version.

Other than that, I'm enjoying myself. I made myself a "Disc 3" in my iTunes library :). It contains DYNWYCA (2010), STTR (2010), STTR (leaked version I found online long ago, containing that intro at the start where they scan for a radio stations - love that one the most!), BG (Leaked version) and BG (The Fugees Remix). I'll probably replace APWNN (Demo) with APWNN (Remix) so that demo will play along with the other remixes, and that will be my "slow song".

whilst i sometimes disagree with you, i have to thank you for preaching this statement right here. Fans should not be going into the listening with an already made up mind, just because it's not Michael's own version.... does not mean that it should be disregarded and given such a low rating. These producers had pride working on these song's, especially with Chicago & Xscape! i am happy that timbaland kept the essence of the demo for loving you, to me that track is so special. 10/10 for the post of yours i quoted :)

the booklet says STTR is recorded 1991

true, but L.A Reid worked on the original demo and he said it was recorded in 1989 in the new billboard magazine 'XSCAPE' article.. we need confirmation, haha.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I suppose that lots of remixes by DJs will be appearing for the clubs.

Yes, only difference being this is official and supported by Sony. I've had a few listens and it's growing on me abit now. I much preferred the Chuckie & Jody Den Broder remixes they did for Hollywood. They were alittle "softer". This LNFSG remix is abit too harsh for my liking. Although it's nice to be able to hear some elements from the new production-multitracks like the strings, drums etc, isolated.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

You're really missing he point. IT'S NOT MJ. Our beloved artist passed away. We have a bunch of producers doing their own thing with his wonderful work.

In case you didn't notice, almost all those who "criticize"' the remixes also love the demos. I ADORE BG, XSCAPE AND STTR (leaked version, more than earlier demo on the CD). I don't like most remixes and think they don't do justice to the originals. How is that in any way criticizing MJ? It's the other way around! I think MJ wouldn't like some of those tracks as well.

We have a right to discuss what we love and don't love about how a bunch of people present the legacy of our hero to the public in 2014.

Make your voice heard too, don't silence the rest of us.

P.S. My favorite album is HIStory, followed by Invincible.
