I'm confused. Is this impersonator has the same long sexy, and sensuous hands as Michael? The face didn't look like him but the hands?

Your comments are excellent!!!! :agree:

:clapping:I agree with you. I LOVED the "Slave to the Rhythm" performance. :clapping:

I thought it served its purpose: the dance being a backdrop to the MUSIC. That's what stood head and shoulders above all else, anyway (for me). . .Mike's music. Anyone that can't come to grips that Mike's physical self is dead, but his essence, his music ISN'T has completely missed the point of fighting to keep his legacy alive.

Get a grip and stop TRIPPING. You're either part of the solution or you're part of the PROBLEM. You don't hear Elvis fans whining about "that thar ain't the KANG on stage". They know he's dead, accept he's dead (the sane ones do, lol) and they don't sweat the small stuff. When they turn on the music, they know that's Elvis. It's time some of Mike's fans adopt that mindset, TOO.

I really, REALLY love it now that I saw it in HD.

I mean, YES, it could definitely be better. But damn, the remix of the song was better than the album version, the performance was simply epic and everyone there seemed to love it. Definitely cool, in my humble opinion!

I just saw it on HD too and it was really really nice. How can you expect perfection - Some fans are never happy. This is good promotion.

These are fans opinions, fans who remember Michael, who grew up with Michael, fans so passionate, fans who knew what michael stood for and knew he strived for only the best and beyond and how serious he took his art. No ones stopping you leaving, but remember this is a forum, opinions clash here.
Exactly. I really don't get this "well it didn't really look like him but the general public won't be able to tell so it's great promotion!" point. Michael was a perfectionist. He gave everything to make his work the absolute best it could be. "I know the creator will go. But his work survives. That is why to escape death I attempt to bind my soul to my work," is how he expressed it. Of course it will never be the same without him here, but that does not mean that all standards should just disappear.

Next up: Michael Jackson's hologram ...

This was the "performance" that everyone was looking forward to most -- and it didn't disappoint.

The Michael Jackson Estate created one visually amazing moment by having the late King of Pop returning from the dead to dance to his "new" single "Slave to the Rhythm."

Was it creepy? Kind of. But it was also all kinds of awesome. Looks like holograms are here to stay.

Christopher dude looks like a drug queen and the holograms face wasn't like that at all!
I once again say that they did the best they could. Michael is not here to perform end of discussion!
Michael is one and only and cannot be copied with precision not even in a drawing!
Good night everyone I wish you all to be able to calm down and don't over analyse things so much!

You can tell the face is CG. Kinda looks like Dangerous era, Black or White MJ to me. The body isn't and would be the impersonator dude.
And what's the deal with the Christopher guy saying the Estate "not having the hologram ready," what does that mean? o.o

It means shit hit the fan at the last second and they really couldn't use whatever they had planned because of said lawsuit, or it really wasn't ready, orrr...This was all they've had for two whole years and just don't want us to know it.

Waw you are done with the album and the promotion because you feel the illusion was not up to par? The album has Michael's voice on it--the same album that you are done with. There has been several wonderful promotional activities and projects for this album. Why be done with the album because of this one problem? I hope others are not done with this album, because I want it to still do well worldwide and in the US. Thanks again UK for making the album #1.

Well, I never supported this album in the first place. I think it's a spit on Michael's grave to do shitty remixes on his songs "one a day" - on the songs he worked on for years - and then use his name to sell them, insulting his own versions in the process. This mess is just the last straw.

The only good thing about this project was 8 released demos, which I bought, but honestly, by now I wish the whole thing never happened. I would have sacrificed hearing "She Was Loving Me" and "Loving You" in order to save Michael from this embarrassment.

Sometimes I want to leave. But then I wouldn't get all the info I want to know. Unfortunately I was too young to see Michael live. Hell, even live in a world where Michael wasn't the butt of EVERY JOKE. Michael did his best when he was alive. But to expect the absolute best in death is crazy.

I love Michael, and im a newer fan. (2007)
By then Michael wasn't doing shows, he was trying to make his comeback and he died. I don't have the best eyes, I wear glasses. I know the CGI face was off, but the moves looked nice. Was the moonwalk prefect? no. But ill take what I can get.

apparently 2chainz (he's a rapper) wore a michael jackson jacket during his performance

LOL, that's not a bit subjective. :p

No, it is...It's equally as subjective as people going "You should all quit complaining, you all complain too much, its the best they can do, you're all always so negative..It has a CGI Michael face, and an impersonators body and half assed dancing, we should all enjoy that because the general public probably is going to like it..."

Yet I don't see you quoting those posts..Hmm?

Kinda feel bad for Chris now he's gonna get so much backlash, but he too has a lot of fans encouraging him.

And the response from casual fans and viewers is overwhemingly positive. Xscape's sales will skyrocket.

To address common criticisms:
1. "They used an impersonator" - yes they did to track the movements, as they did with the Tupac hologram. However, the face is CGI of Michael from Black or White/Dangerous era superimposed onto the dancer. Christopher Gaspar does not look like this. The face is Michael, although it is the way it is superimposed that seems a bit questionable (his mouth seems smaller, and facial expressions/mouth movements wonky). Even if an impersonator was note used, I don't think we would be able to see any better facial expressions - we're still not at that stage just yet. The face cannot be simply superimposed. They need to have a layout for the face to be imprinted on and unfortunately it wasn't very accurate.
2. "Moves sucked..." Typical moves from an impersonator but some of it does remind me of how MJ danced during This Is It and remember he didn't even moonwalk there!
3. "But Tupac..." - That too was an impersonator's movements with Tupac's face superimposed. Sure WE think it looked impressive but I wonder how fans of Tupac though of the face, we aren't the ones to judge.
4. "But Elvis and Freddie..." nope! Those were post-edited animations, the audience did NOT see them as such.
5. "This is disrespectful" - At least it doesn't show Michael gaunt as Freddie looked for that TV CGI.

Right. So why even try if the best they can come up with is this BS? It's not like they HAVE to do this.

And Elvis fans don't complain because they never had to deal with an impersonator performing on an awards show in front of millions billed as "Elvis Presley".

I think for me personally I am not ready for hologram types of things. It feels weird to me. I am going to enjoy the music and not let this bother me too much.

You know what drives me mad is the negativity, I know some of you did not see him live but dont you think the estate are doing the best they can? I wont even watch it now with the comments I read but Michael is number 1 in uk , has a top 8! Single in uk! Dont you think thats some achievment
All this negativity comes from same people, look Michaels Dead! Sorry but thats the hard fact now deal with it and wake up to the fact that this will promote xscsape no end and get that song known to non fans alike!

Rip Michael your the best.

Terry

Yeap. The first think I thought was that they found something new to complain about. Take this for what it is. It is not going to be the real Michael like when the actors were beamed up in the Star Trek shows. Calling this thing all these derogatory names sounds so mean spirited and belittles people's efforts. Again we are jumping to conclusion about how it was done and why. We don't know yet, so how about getting some more information about it before becoming experts.

It is not going to dance, moonwalk, spin, jump, perform, and move like Michael, because it is not Michael.

There are probably sculptures of his face in the archives, from masks done on Ghosts and who knows what else. There are talented people and companies who can create a decent CGI version of his face, this was NOT it. I'm not convinced this was CGI, it looks way too much like a video of a look-alike and not much else. The CGI-like effect of the mouth and the lyrics sung being out of sync with the song is probably more to do with the projection technology and less to do with it actually being CGI. I could be wrong, but you would expect that if someone is going to pay money and time to create a cgi hologram, it would look like the person it's modeled on.

I didn't like it while watching in real time but I've gone back and I agree that they prob weren't quite ready with the CGI. It's probably hard to make his mouth and face match the lyrics of the song and the song choice was probably decided recently. Pausing it, sometimes it looked exactly like Michael.

After repeated watches I now like the costume very much and even the dance. It'll never be Michael but they made a really good effort and need to keep perfecting it. And it should have had a lot less hype. Tupac worked better because it was a shock.
I am proud of the estate for trying the newest technology. They did that for Michael, himself. That's following Michael's lead for sure. It would have been a lot easier and a lot cheaper to have a video in the background or an impersonator under a blazing spotlight so you couldn't see him at all

It really looked nothing more than a tribute performance to me.

Michael Jackson Hologram Rocks Billboard Music Awards: Go Behind the Scenes

BBMA 2014

By Phil Gallo, Las Vegas | May 18, 2014 9:29 PM EDT

The Michael Jackson performance on the Billboard Music Awards was the result of nearly half a year of planning, choreography and filming, not to mention the development of new technology. Producers of the Billboard Music Awards did not see even a portion of the film until eight days before the broadcast.

"We've been talking about it for the last five months and while we were talking about it they were still inventing the process," says BBMA director and producer Larry Klein. "It was really strange talking about something that did not exist."

Jackson, in hologram form, performed "Slave to the Rhythm" midway through Sunday night's show with a five-piece band and 16 dancers live onstage. Jackson appeared in gold jacket, white T-shirt and brick red trousers on a set modeled on the art work for the album "Dangerous," an appropriate choice as the track was recorded in 1991 with L.A. Reid and Babyface during the sessions for that album. Released this week on "XSCAPE," which is neck-and-neck with the new Black Keys album for No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, the track was produced by Timbaland.

BBMA producers Dick Clark Productions built a special stage at the rear of the MGM Grand Arena that was used only for the Jackson performance. Dancers moved through aisles as Jackson was seen rising from a throne, walking down steps before going into several trademark routines, a moonwalk being one of the them. Lasers, streams of flames and dancers in ancient costumes were part of the film.

Klein shot it to give the presentation the feel of a live performance. "You were watching the magic of Michael Jackson just like you would have when he was performing," says Klein.

The selection of "Slave to the Rhythm" for the hologram performance was made late last year; Jackson associates the Talauega brothers and Jamie King were brought in to choreograph and direct the video, which was produced by Pulse Evolution and Tricycle Logic.

"At the time we made the decision," says Jackson's lawyer and adviser John Branca, "'Slave to the Rhythm' felt like a song was something people could dance to, a potential club song. We talked to Jamie King, who directed the Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil shows and we all felt the song was very likeable."

The Talauega brothers, Rich and Tone, were brought on right after the new year and they started to draw up dance moves for Jackson and the other dancers in the film. Their involvement with Jackson dates back to the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards; they also choreographed the HIStory tour in 1997 and if one had to guess, the image of Michael used in the performance appears to be from that era based on his hair and clothing.

"We knew we didn't need to go so far left field with his dance moves -- we just kept it within his world," Rich Talauega says. "Its just the way you reconfigure his steps so it looks different. You're still speaking the same language, it's just a different dialect."

Tone Talauega, who was still in high school when he started working with Jackson, says they studied the singer's moves and had small things adjusted - the angle of a hand, the tilt of his head. The performance is "classic Michael, but we put our spice on it," he says.

Demand for the Jackson hologram was considerable, but in the end Branca and the estate felt it needed to be shown with a live audience.

"It's so important to experience Michael Jackson in a live setting," Branca says. "This is something where we wanted a live performance in front of a live audience and nothing speaks to that more than an awards show."

If they had Emmanuel Lewis there dancing, it would be the same thing.....not like MJ at all. :(

That face......my first thought was "Damn. Dangerous era got hit by a shovel. Poor baby"

I'm probably the only person in the world who thought "okay, who the hell thought red socks were a good idea? Probably the same person who okayed that face"

Other then the face and socks he looked great from the neck down as long as he/it didn't dance.

That's what I've observed... the non-mj fans and the general public response is really positive. It's only the hardcore MJ fans like us that are very, very mixed in views. Which make sense, I mean most of us were fans of MJ since we were frggn fetuses, listen and watched his videos frequently so we are used to the true essence of MJ. Whereas non-mj fans and general public and people with neutral view of MJ see it as really cool. And I won't complain about that. I appreciate the efforts that were done today. I mean, in the end, who will go this far and celebrate an artist who has passed away, you only see this being done with MJ because he is that big of a deal and will be for generations to come. I think this won't be the end of it, just picture it, in the future MJ's legacy will still live on in addition to ever-advancing technology possibilities. :)

From us weekly:
Long reign the King. History was made at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 18, when audience members at the MGM Grand Garden Arena were treated to a performance by the late Michael Jackson, via a hologram projection of the iconic pop star, who died in June 2009.

The performance began with Jackson's hologram seated in a throne, and went on to show the King of Pop dancing, moonwalking, and just generally rocking out to "Slave to the Rhythm," from his new posthumous album Xscape. He was decked out in a gold jacket and red leather pants, and joined onstage by a team of synchronized dancers.

Some fans of the late superstar wiped away tears during the performance, while others mimicked some of his most famous moves in their seats. Afterward, the crowd gave Jackson's projection a standing ovation.

The "Slave to the Rhythm" performance was nearly six months in the making, and was almost derailed at the last minute by a lawsuit. (Tech companies alleged that the show's producers were using their techniques to create the hologram.)

In the end, though, the show was allowed to go on. Speaking about the choreography with Billboard, Rich Talauega said, "We knew we didn't need to go so far left field with his dance moves -- we just kept it within his world." Added Rich's brother Tone: "[The performance is] classic Michael, but we put our spice on it."

"It's so important to experience Michael Jackson in a live setting," Jackson's lawyer John Branca explained of how the idea came about. "This is something where we wanted a live performance in front of a live audience, and nothing speaks to that more than an awards show."?
