Xscape General Discussion

listening to this album countless times makes me wanna hear more. i wish there would be 2 more contemporized songs. to make it a 10 :) so good!

My battle results:

3. Loving You (original)
4. APWNN (new) original is great too.
5. Slave To The Rythm (new) the original one is also good, but it sounds kinda unfinished
6. DYKWYC (Original)
7. Blue Gangsta (New)
8. Xscape (original)

Winner: new versions 5:3

On May 1, 2014, Asher danced with Usher in the premier performance for Michael Jackson’s album, “Xscape.” He now works with world-famous choreographers such as Rich+Tone Talauega, travels the country teaching and choreographing, and is a lead in MTV music video “NAMI-VOYEUR” and in Bella Thorne’s Disney Channel music video, “Call It Whatever.” Currently, Asher is working on several Michael Jackson projects that are coming soon.

Interesting, looking forward to what's to come.

I know it's been a while since the album is out but i want to share my thought with you! ;)

1. Love Never Felt So Good

The first time i heard the leak i thought how can such an unfinished track be included!? But now i have to say it's the perfect single and of course i like both versions. Only the vocals are sounding a bit stronger in the single version in the duet in my opinion.

2. Chicago

Also a great one, like timbaland said it sounds like todays music! The production is so good and the voice sounds stronger than on the original.

3. Loving You

I like the start with the piano and it's the same like with Chicago great production and the vocals are better.

4. APWNN

Stargate made the song danceable but i have to say it's not my favourite and in my opinion not the best choice for a single. The original is also great but i just like powerful songs more! :D

5. Slave To The Rhythm

I loved the leaked one and thought hey this would have been a hit. Timbalands production is good but i'm missing the power in the chorus... Even the original is a bit more danceable. Audiens remix is my favourite version.

6. Do You Know Where Your Children Are

I had all the leaks before the album was released and this song was by far the best! A rock track with this missage.
I'm missing this energy in timberlands version... But i like it more and more

6. Blue Gangsta

That song i didn't like that much and i thought i will never like it. But from the first moment i heard the 2014 version i could feel it. And thats something thats very important to me.

7. Xscape

I like it both versions! The Original is very good and should have been on invincible.
The new production don't match so perfect with the message and yeah i think with the vocals too... (1:22 min for example)

Yeah thats all :D hope you all can understand me and my thoughts. All in all it's a great album with many great songs.

I figure everyone is already aware of this, but I'll put it in here for discussion anyway:

For a deceased artist, a million copies in 3 months is great.

We have to take into acconunt that a deceased artist never had this kind of promo, though. The sales are not that great, they are good compared to the money invested in the promotion. We'll see the year-end chart and decide if it was worth it or not. It won't touch the top 3 places in any way, but a 4th spot seems plausible.

Frozen already surpassed last year's best seller (Bruno Mars with 4 million followed by Eminem with 3.8 million) and it passed a little more than half of the year.

I HATE Frozen, how can somebody buy this crap?
What makes it so special?

It`s really great. It´s the 3rd bestselling release in 2014 after Coldplay and Pharell. Pharell is not far away and he has the hit-single of the year and is on steady promotion.

If you want it to compete with the best sellers of the year you are only setting up yourself for disappointment. That was never a realistic expectation. Now you are predicting a Top 4 place on the year-end chart. I think that's another irrealistic expectation and you will be disappointed if you seriously expect that. There will be lots of albums coming out around Christmas and the Christmas market is always stronger than anything else, so the albums which will be released around that time will have an advantage.

Considering it's a deceased artist sales are great. And promo was OK, but it's not like it was some out of this world promo. In fact we haven't seen any real promotion since May.

It may hit the 4th spot. Just wait and see. As other artists get new alums around Christmas, this album will also be discounted. And having a hologram at the Billboard awards (biggest audience ever), premiere of a new single by Usher at IheartRadio and having promoted APWNN at SYTYCD are major promo. Xperia ads, bridgin singles, a lot of reviews by the media...

A lot will depend on the success of APWNN and the following single (hopefully Chicago). If these songs catch fire, the album could have steady sales for months. So far, the sales have been driven by the success of LNFSG and good word of mouth about the album in general. I think there is a lot of upside potential for this album based on the quality of the songs which have yet to be released

MICHAEL JACKSON’S “A PLACE WITH NO NAME” MUSIC VIDEO TO PREMIERE WORLDWIDE EXCLUSIVELY ON TWITTER @MICHAELJACKSON AUGUST 13FIRST LOOK TO AIR DURING A SPECIAL MICHAEL JACKSON THEMED EPISODE OF FOX’S SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE
Epic Records and The Estate of Michael Jackson, announced today that “A Place With No Name,” the next single from this year’s critically acclaimed, chart-topping Michael Jackson albumXSCAPE [MJJ Music/Epic Records], will make history when it premieres on Twitter (twitter.com). At 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 13, 2014 the short film will be tweeted through@MichaelJackson allowing the Twitter universe to be able to view the video within a tweet. And for those fans in New York City, “A Place With No Name” will be shown on the massive Sony screen in Times Square at the very same moment.
Throughout his entire career, Michael has always stood on the cutting edge of groundbreaking technological advancements. With “A Place With No Name” as the very first music video to launch through Twitter, he continues to set the pace of pop culture and music yet again. Follow @MichaelJackson to watch the historical moment from the “King of Pop” unfold.
Increasing anticipation, a preview of the video is set to make its network television debut on the special Michael Jackson themed episode of FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance broadcast that same evening beginning at 8PM ET. The show will open with a Top Eight group performance featuring “A Place With No Name” choreographed by the Emmy award-winning Travis Payne, who worked as both back-up dancer and choreographer for Michael Jackson. During the program, all of the Top Eight remaining contestants will compete with new all-star partners and each performance will feature a different Michael Jackson song, including songs from XSCAPE.
Michael re-envisioned America’s 1972 classic “A Horse With No Name” to convey a narrative following a man whose car breaks down and is led by a mysterious woman to a utopian place where “no one is in fear” and “no people have pain”. It was a collaboration with Elliott Straite [Dr. Freeze] done in 1998 at Record Plant Recording Studio.
The beautifully shot short film, directed by iconic award-winning director Samuel Bayer, whose credits include seminal videos from Nirvana and The Rolling Stones, has been created by following Michael’s overall vision for short films which tell the song’s story, in this case, of a man enticed into a magical “place” by a mysterious woman. The short film also includes outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage of Michael shot during the production for “In The Closet” short film, which have been kept in the vault since 1992.
Upon its May release, XSCAPE reached #1 in 52 countries and went Top 5 in 87 more territories. Stateside, it debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, simultaneously landing at #1 on Amazon and Spotify. The album’s first single, “Love Never Felt So Good,” a duet by Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake soared to the Top in the U.S. and achieved 17 #1 and 67 Top 5 positions around the world. The single also made for Michael’s highest Billboard chart debut since 1995 and fourth highest ever at #20 as his 49th smash hit. The album also generated his 50th top 10 Billboard chart with “Slave To The Rhythm” making Michael the first artist to ever have a Top Ten hit in each of six consecutive decades.
