^^I had no idea that Bowie played the sax. Thanks for posting this. Strange song.

Re: Michael references in songs

Life of the party by Prince, is off his 2004 Musicology album.

Another Prince song from 1992 called My name is Prince off the Symbol album.

"U must become a Prince b4 ure King anyway!" (Spelled in Princebonics)

And has anyone mentioned Jermaine's 1991 hit - Word 2 the Bad.

Missy Elliott - Pass That Dutch:

Misdemeanor on the floor, pretty boy here I come
Pumps in the bunk make you wanna hurt something
I can take your man I don't have to sex em
Hang em out the window call me Micheal Jackson (hehehee!)

Re: Michael references in songs

Missy is such an MJ stan.
I swear she should've just dedicated Gossip folk to MJ.
Additionally, I know this is random but I would LOVE to see MJ dance to Lose control by Missy Elliot, I know he would've slayed it.
I kinda hope that he practiced his dancing to the song, and that it's on tape somewhere LOL.

Re: Michael references in songs

Gossip Folks also contains a reference to MJ:

Yo, straight up Missy killed that shit tonight for real
I know, I know, I don't even care about her being pregnant by Michael Jackson

Re: Michael references in songs

The Fugees - fu gee la - not sure if its an MJ references.

"Jacksonacula, everyone sees crack babies"

Re: Michael references in songs

I love my negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils

Beyonce is a huge MJ stan.
She says going to an MJ concert is the only reason that she decided to become an entertainer herself, and she's constantly praising Michael.
You know your the greatest of all time when your career inspires other people to start theirs.
But then again who isn't an MJ fan/stan.
Even if your favorite entertainer isn't MJ chances are he's your faves fave.

New Frank Ocean song featuring Beyoncé, 'Pink and White'

Outro: Frank Ocean + Beyoncé]
Remember life
Remember how it was
Climb trees, Michael Jackson, it all ends here

Re: Michael references in songs

Blessings 2 - Chance The Rapper

"I used to dance to Michael, I used to dance in high school"

Re: Michael references in songs

Drake ft 2 Chainz

Re: Michael references in songs

Modern day MJ
with the Off The Wall flow

Kanye West - Saint Pablo

I remember this one....
"Rest in peace to Aaliyah
Rest in peace to Left Eye
Michael Jackson, I'll see ya
Just as soon as I die"
She knows-J. Cole

And also these lyrics from my 2nd favorite Artist...
"How many leaders you said you needed then left ‘em for dead?
Is it Moses, is it Huey Newton or Detroit Red?
Is it Martin Luther, JFK, shoot or you assassin
Is it Jackie, is it Jesse, oh I know, it’s Michael Jackson, oh"
Kendrick Lamar-Mortal Man

Re: Michael references in songs

New TLC song 'Way Back' (welcome back ladies)

Like Prince and Marvin Gaye

Some things don't ever change
Yeah, you and me
Cause we go way back
James Brown and Michael J
Like them high school parties
Some things don't ever change
Yeah, you and me

Re: Michael references in songs

I listened to their new single "Way Back" a few times a couple weeks ago....not bad.
I'm kinda anxious to hear the whole CD. :)
Love TLC!

Got this from Twitter.:)

“Glorified seat fillers, Stop walking around like y'all made Thriller”
– Jay Z referencing Michael Jackson on his newly released album.

You know what, I actually think Jay Z are one of the rappers who reference MJ the most in his music.

Regarding the actual reference he was so on point with that. A lot of these artist needs to get of their high horse. I wonder if that line was a dig at Kanye? lol

Jay Z Mentions MJ on 'Moonlight'

Moonlight is the 8th track of Jay Z's brand new album, 4:44. The lyrics go as follows:

Look, I know you killers, you no killer, huh?
Bathing Ape maybe not a gorilla, huh?
Glorified seat filler, huh?
Stop walkin' around like you made Thriller, huh?

Some people say it's a diss at Kanye West who oftentimes compares himself to the king of pop.

Deleted a post or two. Please exercise common sense when posting lyrics, if they're not appropriate then probably best to ignore. Let's keep this thread happy, positive and reflective of the respect Michael has in the industry. This thread is to celebrate the king!

Carry on...

Ain't That Funny by J.Lo and Ja Rule had a line in it, something like:

"...Off The Wall,
Like MJ in his early days"

Not necessarily lyrics, but Rihanna samples the "Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Ma Coo Sa" chant from WBSS in "Don't Stop The Music". And you can actually hear Mike going "he he heee" in the background.

Also, as a complete aside, have just realised I have been listening to Beyonce's Formation lyrics wrong! I have been hearing:

I love my negro knows, Jackson 5 maestro" - obviously this makes no sense but I couldn't quite hear what she was saying!

'Yoga' by Janelle Monáe & Jidenna:

Party at the beach down in Copacabana
Sipping Killepitsch, got my black yoga pants on
Me and Brittany, we've been down in Atlanta
Sweating in the club, call me Dirty Diana

Yeah, she sampled WBSS in Don't Stop The Music. Michael was given songwriting credit as a result too, likely for royalty reasons I bet.

The guy who wrote Soul Makousa had to go after them in court for another settlement too. I don't think he's listed as a songwriter. Not sure.
