MJ News in review for
19 Feb 08

Still relevant
Here's why the album — the best-selling album ever — and the King of Pop are still relevant today.
Five reasons "Thriller" is still one of the best albums ever
• It's "Uncool," which means it's now "cool." Don't ask us why, it's just the way the universe works.
• You can't dance to "The Joshua Tree" by U2 although you can still drunkenly croon to "With or Without You" on dollar draft night.
• More than 100 million served. That's how many people around the world have listened to "Billie Jean" and tried to light up the living-room carpet.
• Quincy Jones produced it. Everything the guy touches turns to gold. It's a burden, unless you're a record producer.
• Seven Top 10 songs. There have been greatest-hits compilations without that much substance.
Five reasons "Thriller" will still be around another 25 years.
• It's Michael Jackson. In 25 years he'll have had enough plastic surgery that he'll be around forever.
• "Thriller 50." The debut of "Thriller 50" in the year 2033 will feature supporting artists such as Jaden Smith (son of Will Smith), Sean Spears (son of Britney Spears) and Keith Richards (guitarist of The Rolling Stones).
• Classic pop. The phrase "classic pop" will remind people of the good ol' days, when music was "good" and "really meant something, man."
• 20th-century music class. Required course study for music history majors who will be forced to analyze and compare early and late Michael Jackson works.
• The Moonwalk. We will all still try to dance in our living rooms like Michael Jackson in "Billie Jean." We will never be able to do it .
Five reasons why we loved "Thriller" in 1983 and still love it in 2008
• The Moonwalk.
• The Red Leather Jacket.
• Sleepy graveyards and monster attacks.
• It won eight Grammys, so it must be good.
• "Thriller" was the greatest video ever. Still is if you ask us.

Michael Jackson's Nigh-Unstoppable Thriller Gets the 25th-Anniversary Treatment
by Miles Marshall Lewis
Thriller remains the nine-song standard that every aspiring prince of pop still pines over way into the 21st century: hands down, the consummate crossover album.

Sharks, Viagra & Michael Jackson: Mohamed Al Fayed's Craziest Moments

5. MJ is a Cottager
If that didn’t work, he’d invite famous pop stars to Fulham’s ground. In 1999 he showed Michael Jackson around Craven Cottage ahead of a league game against Wigan. The King of Pop’s presence clearly worked as Fulham won 2-0.

I hope it's okay with the mods to put the Hitsdailydouble building album chart here: i know it's not the final word like soundscan but interesting to see how T25 is doing and we can chart the progress all day

You shouldn't be disappointed...Thriller 25 is going great so you better enjoy it...it's not a new album like the rest in the list! :D:punk:

That's soooo funny

The 'sold out' may have hampered MJ getting to the top cause there must ave been thousands who didn't get to buy the cd. O wonder if the poeple at the top had sold outs too. I am disappointed.

there is absolute NO reason to be disappointed..

this is a 25 year old album..that really no business to be even in the top 5 of the US record charts...

This is something to celebrate!!

I know RP, but My Large ego couldn't help feeling that if they hadn't ran short in the shops more albums would have been sold and could make all the difference between a 1 and 2 position. Could you imagine the uproar in America if MJ made a no1 with a 25 year old album:eek: I want to see some people go 'splat' and I would be disappointed if we missed out because of shortages.^_^

so those tallies are for what exactly? Billboard charts? In America?

And if MJ lands in 3rd...that is UNBELIEVABLE. How could anyone be disappointed? People said his career is OVER....that no one CARES about the man any more. MJ re releases a 25 year old album and it's THIS successful is....craaazzzyyy

People will go splat anyways cuz MJ wasn't supposed to be ANYWHERE in the radar lol

I'm not disappointed for his 3rd position,.I am disappointed that there wasn't enough cd's in the shops to meet the demands that could have made the difference between a 3rd and a 1st position. If demands were met and he came 3rd, I would be happy:D, but if demands weren't met and he came 3rd, I would not be happy:(. I would be writing 'Could do better on his report card'.:mello:

I was in K mart here. Checked for T25, and they didn't even have it yet.

Do you mean this isn't the final? There could be more added?^_^

It is NOT i repeat the final say BUT Hits does give a view of how the most likely the chart will reflect and for the love of GOD if he doesn't come in no.1 it aint the end of the world we are talking a 25 year old album.

Thanks for the news, Rasta Pasta and hopespringeternal. :) The T25 cd looks like it is doing very well. We will know by tommorrow the final tallies and then it will be published on Thursday. That is according to a posteron here who said that. I mean, look at this - here is a man who people called a "has been" that "no one in AMERICA would support him" well, look at him now!

I would be writing 'Could do better on his report card'.:mello:

why not look at the glass 1/2 full instead of 1/2 empty...

such there were TONS of cds left everywhere because hardly anyone was buying it............??? wouldn't that be worst...

getting in the top 5 is a trumph :punk: for Michael .. celebrate it..

take the monkey off your back...

you are welcome Bee and thank you for saying that, if Dats is reading even if Michael miraculously outsells Jack Johnson he would NOT be no.1 on the Billboard 200 simply because Thriller is a pop catalog album and it would be ranked on THAT chart only, Hits just gives you an idea of how well it is selling with how it would be ranked if it qualified.
