I had to look up the definition

Within some criminal justice systems, a preliminary hearing (evidentiary hearing) is a proceeding, after a criminal complaint has been filed by the prosecutor, to determine whether there is enough evidence to require a trial. In the United States, the judge must find there is probable cause that a crime was committed.

I guess they are still determing whether or not there will be a trial :doh:

prelim is the date when the judge will look to the evidence that the DA has and decides whether it will go to trial or not.

he's assigned to the case today. in most cases judges would want to read the filed documents first, ask for additional information etc etc..

unfortunately these kind of decisions takes time.

Yeah exactly. People need to slow down. It's a process. You don't get it all in one day.
Remember 2005? There was a LOT of pre-trial stuff that happened before there was a trial. There is still the pre-trial dates to get through, where they disclose things and fight for things to be included or excluded.... after all that hoopla is done... then they have to duke it out over who sits on the jury....

There's a while to go before the trial starts. Everyone needs to go into this expecting very little on each date... then be surprised if it exceeds your expectations. At this point I hope we get to the actual trial over summer....:mello:

Remember.... lies run springs but truth runs marathons. 2005 was a marathon.... this will be too :hug:

Totally agree we have been through this once already it's not like this is new, we should be familiar with the proceedings there is no use to turn everything into something bigger than it is.

The DA suspects Murray for Involuntary Manslaughter (Homicide) as a result of practising medicine and (being innocent until proven guilty) potentially killed a client. For the best interest of the American publics safety, Murray's license should be suspended until he is proven to be a fit Dr. If another patient dies at the hands of Murray, who's head does that fall on? The Judge IMO

its normal procedure. this is the first hearing after he was charged.so the first chance for the new judge to take over. one gets picked as the trial judge .the one who was there when he was charged is prob just the judge who was on the bench that day

Ooooh they just called MJ fans 'crazy' on the news here when they interviewed a reporter who'd been at the courthouse :rolleyes: They did a nice job of making it sound like MJ took dozens of drugs on his own before Murray admin'd the propofol.... thanks Kerri-Anne (an Aussie show host) for being so subjective.... :ph34r:

When I read stuff like this I'm relieved that I gave up television 10 months ago when Michael passed. Thanks God I don't watch the media nonsense anymore. They spin everything as they please while telling half truths or straight lies. I don't need the bs, as long as I am able to get my news on this board, everything's ok. I don't need the media to feel crappier than I already do. Michael said one has to become resilient toward their nonsense, and he was completely right. I know they will get even worse, when the actual trial begins.

Saw on HLN news someone interviewing an Alan Duke who was in the courtoom for the hearing. He called Murray "stone face". He said it was really remarkable how Murray managed not to look at anybody even as he walked into the court. He said there were about a dozen Jackson fans lining the hallway groaning and hissing in a really interesting fashion (heh) and he didn't see him make any eye contact.

Also, Lisa Bloom (yes, I know) commented and she said it's confounding to her why since MJ's death the medical board hasn't acted more swiftly to try to suspend or revoke Murray's license. Why hasn't the board come in, asked for a hearing, bring in evidence and determine whether Dr. Murray is fit to continue seeing patients or not?

Good question.
