anybody here who is for legalising marijuana?

Cannabis 'no worse than junk food', says report

Campaigners have urged the Government to rethink drug laws in light of a widely respected independent body likening cannabis use to "moderately risky" gambling or junk food.

The publication of a six-year study from the UK Drug Policy Commission (UKDPC) today reveals that the £3bn spent annually tackling drugs is not evidence-based and calls for a "wholesale review" of existing laws.

The body, part-funded by the Home Office, was launched in April 2007 to provide objective analysis of drug policy, independent of government interference and special interest groups.

Its report, "A Fresh Approach to Drugs", examined the effects of drug policy and makes recommendations ahead of the UKDPC being wound up this autumn. The report recommended recategorising the possession of small amounts of drugs for personal use as a civil and not criminal offence.

It said there was an argument for amending the laws relating to growing cannabis for personal use which might "go some way to undermining the commercialisation of production".

In England and Wales 160,000 people are given cannabis warnings each year. The National Treatment Agency for Substance Abuse says 2.8 million people in England use drugs, but only 300,000 use heroin and crack cocaine which "cause the most problems".

The UKDPC report said there are "some moderately selfish or risky behaviours that free societies accept will occur" and seek to limit but not prevent entirely, such as "gambling or eating junk food".

Politicians must heed its findings and begin this review as a matter of urgency" said Danny Kushlick, of the Transform Drug Policy Foundation.

I live in Michigan USA. I am a legal medical marijuana patient. I can use and grow. I have disease called poly myosotis and nueropothy. It helps me with pain while reducing the amount of narcodic painkillers. It is my belief it will be decriminalized here in Michigan within a yrs time.

^ thats why, no matter how many things have changed throughout the years, i believe racism will always exist. Now that article you just posted is one of the few examples

Yeah, here ... Though I can't stand those weed smokers with their baggy pants because I had an annoying one of this kind in my school class but for everything else I want it to be legal, because it cures cancer and many other diseases. I'm normally against any drugs but this one isn't much of it actually, I think it's more of a multi - talented herb the industries are scared of and that could help us all defeat many problems of our modern society. :)

^^^ Thank you ever so much for your post. :)

No problem .. my aunt recently died of lung cancer and leukaemia, and I was suffering from leukaemia too when I was 4 years old (thanks Chernobyl...), so this is why I got up and am fighting now to legalize cannabis, in order to finally make cancer a curable disease nobody has to fear anymore. I'm now telling straight into people's faces that marijuana isn't only a drug but a medicine and miracle plant. :)

Yeah I hope she's doing better where she is now ... as for me I'm doing fine, but I know that the chemotherapy destroyed my immune system (and I guess other stuff too like nerves etc..) forever so I have to deal with this.

Sure because I'd probably open a shop that sold fancy bongs and make money hand over fist.

Of course. Society is so hypocritical IMO. You can inhale toxic chemicals and get cancer from smoking legal cigarettes, but it's "so badd" to smoke something thats natural and has several health benefits that even the ancient people knew about lol. You can overdose from alcohol which is legal but you can smoke as much marijuana as you want and never have an overdose which is illegal. Get the picture?

For religious reasons i cant smoke anything. Cigarettes can kill you and Weed alters your natural state of mind, and it makes people smell really bad o_O

I like chocolate, chocolate makes life a very happy place.

I think weed should be legalized. It's a natural substance, and I see no problem with it,because everyone and their mother where I live smokes it,besides me of course.
I don't smoke it,but I do support it.

I do not condone smuggling but damn !

Saudi Arabia Beheads Four Brothers Over Marijuana

By Mike Adams · Thu Aug 28, 2014

While the United States continues to enforce ridiculous and outdated drug policies to perpetuate slave labor within the American prison system, the drug laws in foreign lands are proving to be even more sinister, with recent reports suggesting that Saudi Arabia is beheading people for smuggling marijuana.

Earlier last week, four Saudi brothers charged with trafficking marijuana into the kingdom, were found guilty and sentenced to die by the hands of a sword-wielding executioner. Although the government news agency did not provide much information regarding the actual execution, the initial report indicates the men were decapitated near the southwestern city of Najran for smuggling “a large quantity of hashish” into the Arab state.

Unfortunately, the negotiation tactics by the human rights organization Amnesty International were not successful in providing the men with a stay of execution. Family members reached out to the organization in hopes that they could persuade Saudi officials to spare the lives of the brothers, but the interior ministry quickly snuffed out these attempts.

"The Saudi Arabian authorities must halt all executions," Said Boumedouha, Deputy Director of Amnesty International's Middle East and North Africa Programme, said in a statement, adding that the brothers were subjected to unfathomable methods of torture in order for authorities to retrieve a confession.

Yet, Saudi authorities deny torturing the weed smugglers before chopping their heads off in the desert.

A recent Amnesty report claims that Saudi officials have executed 17 people in the past two weeks, which is "a rate of more than one execution per day." The pot smuggling brothers brings the hatchet toll up to 32 for the year. "The recent increase in executions in Saudi Arabia is a deeply disturbing deterioration,” said Boumedouha. "The authorities must act immediately to halt this cruel practice.”

In Saudi Arabia, smuggling marijuana is a terminal infringement of the teachings of Islam and is punished the same as rape, murder, apostasy and witchcraft.

I support legalising it. Sadly the UK nanny state probably never will

I'm pretty sure it will be legalized here in the US within a few years. Too many individual states are legalizing it mainly because of the lousy economy and the money it brings.
I've never used it (well, once by accident) but just about everybody I know does. So I'm for it.

If weed was legalized would you smoke it? I would

No. I do not smoke tabacco either, nor do I drink alcohol. I never liked them. So I don't think I'd smoke weed either. But I am not against its legalization. Probably would have more advantages than disadvantages. I don't know how it is elsewhere, but in my country (Hungary) there is a new and very dangerous trend in drug use. These new drugs on the market are called "herbal" or "bioweed" but those are very misleading names because in reality they are synthetic drugs. There popularity is due to the fact that they are very cheap and legal. They are not legal because they are not dangerous but because there is a trick with these drugs. They are made in China in professional laboratories. By the time one variation makes it on the forbidden drugs' list they simply change it a little bit and the new one is legal again until it gets on the forbidden list and it goes on like this until eternety because the variations are limitless. However this makes them more dangerous than most other drugs because no one really knows what are their health effects (short term, long term), they are totally uncontrolled.

So a lot of people say that the solution would be to legalize real weed. At least that's natural and its effects are well known. Many feel that's the only way to push this cheap and extremely dangerous crap out of the market. BTW, something similar was the reason behind the Netherlands legalizing weed (only at the time it was heroin that needed to be pushed out with it). As I heard it worked. The number of herion users dropped when weed got legalized.

@ analogue's question: Yes, I would. Sorry, I lied. Let me be honest. Ffffff*ck yes, I would. The fact that is illegal is the reason why I do not smoke it.

@ respect77: I think you meant to say "They are not illegal because they are not dangerous." Sorry for teasing, I know it was just a typo. :) Do you think cannabis will ever be legal in Hungary. Do you think it'll take more than a decade ?

Well, I already drink alcohol and they say that's more harmful to you than weed.
