Drama again!! MJ's Neverland items will be sold by Richard Lapointe in China!

I saw this in your link, the deadline seems to be Sept. 15, so maybe its over:

Canadian collector Richard LaPointe is announcing his interest in selling his impressive collection of art objects from Michael Jackson’s estate estimated at USD 20 Million. The collection includes 71 fine decorative art pieces, garden statuary, and Disney collectibles which decorated the premises of the King of Pop’s Neverland Ranch prior to 2009.

The collection gives unique insights into the life of the late singer whose Neverland Ranch glorified childhood through an exquisite mix of royal panache and childish style. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for someone to possess a piece of Michael Jackson’s legacy, says Mr. LaPointe, and a great investment opportunity as each piece in the collection also come along with the right to exhibit it using Michael Jackson’s name.”

The acquisition of the 71 items is the result of a long legal battle between Richard LaPointe and MJJ Production who manages Michael Jackson’s estate when the items were pulled from public auction in 2009, two months before the death of the singer. At that time, Mr. LaPointe was the only bidder on over 80 of the 170 items bided on. With MJJ Productions now holding tightly onto the remaining items of the Neverland estate, they are unlikely to be sold anytime soon, giving Mr. LaPointe’s collection international historical significance.

To inquire about acquiring Michael Jackson’s fine decorative art collection, please contact Mr. Cedrick Pouliot at cedrick.pouliot@mail.mcgill.ca before September 15, 2011.

Just to refresh memories.

Collector Settles With Michael Jackson Estate Over Memorabilia Treasure Trove

<!-- get socials 2 --><!--INFOLINKS_ON-->A legal spat over Michael Jackson's memorabilia has been settled following an 18-month fight.
Collector Richard LaPointe accused the Jackson estate of keeping a treasure trove of King of Pop knick-knacks from him when officials halted a scheduled Julien's Auctions sale two months before Jackson's death in 2009.
LaPointe, the world's biggest collector of Beatles memorabilia, claimed he had pre-bid on many of the items going under the hammer at what would have been the largest authorised sale of Jackson items - and he was the only bidder.
The settlement calls for the Jackson estate to sell 64 of the 80-plus items in dispute, according to LaPointe’s lawyer, Nicholas Hornberger.
The auction was cancelled after Jackson reached a financial settlement with bosses at Julien’s Auctions, who will now go to trial to fight LaPointe's allegations of intentional interference and breach of contract.

As LastTear reminded, this guy got some of the items that he requested sold to him as a settlement with the Estate. When the settlement was reached, and we found out he was able to buy the 64 items, we wondered which they would be. Well, we have our answer.

My only question would be how the item count went from 64 to 71?

Good point ginvid, perhaps he has split some items into two or more lots.

Interesting that he has chosen to sell in China...clearly thinks this is where he will get the most money for them (surprised its not in Japan). I think a lot of these items were garden statues. Sad that he bought them for profit and not for sentiment.

This was the first mjjc thread.....

......there was another when the case was settled.

http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/threads/109399-Lawsuit-about-cancelled-MJ-Auction-moves-forward

This was the' long' list of items Ivy posted from the earlier thread...it may include a small number of things not included in the settlement.

Does anyone know what the poem was on item 17...the marble slab?

I got the complaint document from the court. Here are the 82 items (the court document says 82 but then lists 78 items , perhaps they are counting the items listed as "pair" towards the 82 number) As you can see it's mainly statues from Neverland. I bolded the MJ related items so that you can follow more easily.

It's anyone's guess which 64 he got but perhaps the estate kept the MJ items and let him have the rest.

I remember that story. It seemed he made a bid on it and when it was cancelled he was still interested in the pieces. Now that a settlement is reached, does this mean that once you bid on an item, the sale cannot be cancelled? Does anyone know?

It seemed he wanted these pieces to sell, more like a business venture. He got several pieces, so he expects to make a lot of money from it.

The list above^^ makes you think that if they ever decide to recreate the splendor of Neverland, they would have to buy a lot of objects, because Neverland has been stripped clean!!!! It seems the only things there is what is bolted down like the trees, rocks, and mud.

Those bronze statues of little kids that graced Neverland are the purest, most beautiful, soul-stirring depiction of childlike innocence, wonder and sweetness I've ever seen...this is breaking my already fractured heart so much :(

Michael was able to see 'this' kind innocence in children, he was able to preserve 'this' innocence in himself and was crucified for being 'this' innocence which the world painted as something vile and corrupt, and now that same childlike perspective of his (that finds representation in these magical statues) that was mocked, degraded and looked at with suspicion for decades is now being put up on show and glorified as a 'as a piece of his legacy'!

Please forgive this world Michael.

Ankita I like your observation. When he had them, something was wrong with him and the statues. Now that it can be sold for dollars, it is seen in a different light. This is our hypocrite world!!!!

This is the reason why I've ceased to care about the these auctions for people's personal stuff............

People kicked and spat at him when he was alive and now his possessions have become priceless............

Even if I had America's missing $14trillion, I still wouldn't buy that stuff...........It doesn't belong to anybody except Michael and his descendants!!!!

Well-said. I'm just sick and tired of it all.

Much ado about nothing, imo. Estate sales/auctions are nothing new and those things didn't define Michael. It's just stuff, an illusion of what's truly important: humanity.
