Feb. 13, 2008 MJ News & Mentionings

This is amazing really.

To think after everything he's been through, not even 3 years later we are actually staring down the barrel at a potential #1 Album in the USA, that is a reissue, is staggering actually.

Makes me wonder if MJ knows how close he is to it being number one? I've heard sales are predicted at 120k and Jack Johnson is predicted at 135k, Winehouse 110k.

So 1 2 and 3 are up for grabs here. If MJ made an appearance between now and the cut off day for sales we would def see a number one. Now, who wants to email Ray ray and tell her to fix her weave and tell that skinny ass genius to walk out the d00r and start promoting.

It would be great if his album sales made him number one... if he wants number one all he has to do is an interview or a performance... thats all.

Well I doubt Michael's going to make an appearance, lol. But even without that, the fact that he can chart at least in the top five, for an album that isn't a new release, but just a re-issue, speaks volumes about Michael's continued appeal. This should give him the assurance that people are still pining for him, because they are, and that's what I think this album is anyway, just a test project.

Ok, so what happened - Janet was given a copy of T25 by Shawn Robinson and she said that she did not get a copy of the CD. She also added (she was joking) that she did not get her share of the earning from the mega selling CD. As we all know, Janet is on PYT and she finally told the story on how she got the chance to sing in the song. When she was going to tell it, she was like, "I do not think that I should tell the story". Anyway, she said that all of these girls come over to sing the song. Then, these girls were told to leave except Janet. So, they decided to let Janet sing the song. That is the story on how she got a chance to sing that "na na na" part. LOL. I tried to understand how that was a secret but it was.

That's right, I remember this. Wasn't Latoya also there as well?

Love hearing about these family collaborations etc. Inspiring. ^_^

MJ doesn't have to appear anywhere. But just the thought that if MJ REALLY wanted to all he'd have to do is show up some place and he'd be Number one, with a 25 year old album is SOMETHING ELSE.

This is just something silly, but I had David Letterman on tonight, and as they went to commercial, I could have sworn I heard the beat from an MJ song his band was playing. Then it came back for a second to say he'd be right back, and sure enough, I heard it again. I believe it was Wanna be startin somethin. Then when the show ended, where it says Worldwide Pants, the guy said, "Beat it," and then some other word like a name. anyway, I know it's not news, and I'm not sure where to put it, but I thought it was at least worth sharing. I always get excited when things like that happen, lol.

Yep his band ALWAYS plays MJ. I heard This Place Hotel (awesome!) and Blame It On The boogie.

Guinness people confirmed that before certifying "Thriller" with 104 million sales they requested sales data from RIAA and IFPI. Usually, "Thriller" wholesale would be like 63 million to date, but the theory is that Guinness people added older retail sales figure for "Thriller" for the world from IFPI to RIAA's estimation (though their business is USA only). This could be reason why both "Thriller" and overall sales increased almost twice during that certification.

However, there is possibility that whole lot of cheaper versions of albums sold in less rich countries than USA were finally taken into account -- for all like twenty five years of sales.

There is nothing else besides those two theories yet; no official explanation was received. Sony-BMG avoids now publishing any concrete sales figures for "Thriller", the more so overall sales. Only Guinness did this but they are not legally and financially responsible for being accurate or not. The same is with Michael's PR people, when they write press-releases. However, please everyone take notice that it was Guinness people who brought re-certified figures, not Jackson's staff and the more so not Michael himself. So whenever Guinness tries now to say they got information from Jackson's people it contradicts to its direct answer to earlier query on this.

That could mean different things, either they inflated the original sales total accidentally or did like you said but either way it's still the biggest-selling album ever. I still think its total amount is 60-65 million tops. But the way "Thriller 25" is going, it'll increase the number so it's all good. I'm fine with Guinness' explanation...really.

But anyway, I think that's why Thriller continues to do well because that's the album that MADE Michael Jackson, MADE pop music THE FORM again, ya know? I mean, in the eighties, disco was on the commercial outs, hip-hop was trying to get in, punk music and new wave had distracted everything, pop music was pretty much soft rock and black musicians were struggling to get on the mainstream charts. Thriller basically was one of those albums where everything came together. The videos helped its format and the fact that people continued to buy it for whatever reason because they dig MJ or dig the album it shows how an album that has debated sales and is still confirmed to be the best-selling album ever is just amazing. Top 5 debut? Very good.

In Ebony Mag, it's stated that 54 million copies of Thriller have sold in the US. Now, I wonder why noone is talking about that. Is it because Thriller hasn't been certified by RIAA? your thoughts.
This was mentioned before but fans refuse to accept it, blaming other fans for pumping up sales figure. I believe it and I believe there is more shock figures to come when the other albums are counted. The thing is that when people buy one mj album they always but all the others.:)

i'm so happy that Michael is doing well again.he has music in his blood:)
