Happy New Year!!
Well, it definitely wasn't just a rumor. I went to Studio 72 last night here in Atlanta to ring in 2008. We arrived at about 10:30, got our VIP wrist bands and headed inside the club. This was my first trip to Studio 72. It's a pretty nice club.
There was a decent sized crowd and we made our way to one of the VIP sections to get drinks. Since it was still early, I wanted to scope out the crowd and the areas of the club.....
Thirty minutes and a couple of cocktails later, we noticed several security guards using their walky talkies and walking quickly toward the back of the club. We knew somebody was in the house!!
About a minute later Jermaine Dupri walked right past us....looking quite dapper in his tux, sipping on a glass of champagne. He spoke briefly to some of the bar staff and passed back by us and my boyfriend and I both shook his hand and told him that we were having a great night. During the commotion, Janet and Joe (her bald security guy) had made their way to another VIP section that we didn't have access to.
Janet looked amazing! Her hair was long & curly and she was texting someone pretty much the entire time.
By this time, we had a pretty good buzz going and there was alot of excitement in the air. JD had made his way up to the DJ turntable and took the mic. He mentioned that the Jacksons were in the house....and he gave a big shout out to Janet. The crowd was pretty hyped and gave a big reaction.
Then, right before my eyes Jackson after Jackson after Jackson passed right before us on their way up to the VIP area where Janet was. Marlon and Tito came by first. Then Jermaine. Then Randy and Jackie. No Michael, unfortunately.
I was kinda hoping Latoya might show, too.....but she wasn't there either. I was able to shake Jermaine's hand and welcomed him to Atlanta and he flashed that million dollar Jackson smile and thanked us. They were obviously loving the energy that the crowd was giving.
They mingled in the VIP area and grooved to the music.
Then at about 11:50 the brothers and JD passed right back by us again and went up to the DJ booth area. The crowd went absolutely nuts as JD presented "The Jacksons" to the Studio 72 crowd. I got a few decent shots with my cameraphone.
They didn't perform, but they stayed on the stage as we rang in the new year. Obviously, we would have loved a performance, but it was still pretty cool just to see so many Jacksons under one roof.
While the crowd was still going crazy, we went back over to our original spot where we had the best gimpses of Janet. (Geez - as I type this it sounds so stalkerish lol) Janet was grinning from ear to ear watching her brothers on the stage. She made eye contact with me and I blew her a kiss. She smiled and waved. I did the "heart symbol" and she did it right back. I swear, that still makes me melt when she does that!
I was hoping they would play "Feedback" at some point through the night, but we left close to 1 am and it hadn't been played.
We had a fantastic time. I'm really glad we went and I'd definitely do it all over again.
