Madonna Appreciation thread - For fans

I just got Madonna's new song from iTunes. Although I find the song to be less heavy as far as the instrumentation compared to the booming club dancefloor-type production on her song "Hung Up" (for example), her new song is still fun to listen to, in my opinion. I look forward to her new album.

Don't like the single, really don't actually but it is what it is, it does seem like one of those songs that will stick in everyone's heads though, I'm sure the single will at least crack top 10 on the hot 100. I'm still really excited for the superbowl should be the best in awhile.

The album is also top of the UK itunes chart too.

I hate when Madonna releases something I don't like.

I wonder if MDNA will be one of those albums that everyone loves except me (e.g. Confessions). I tend to love the stuff no one else does (American Life, Hard Candy).

Maybe the single will grow on me...hope so.

This is one thread i meant to post in for quite some time now. I must say that i don't consider myself a Madonna fan, but an admirer rather.

Most people are supposed to be liberals in their youth and conservatives as they go through this thing called life. Well, for me it's been the total opposite - i used to be quite the conservative head in my teens and 20s and now in my early 30s i find myself quite the liberal. Some called me a libertine once cause of my boots and short skirt lol. I suppose because of my puritan, zealot-almost attitude from back then i found myself rejecting most of Madonna's work for many years, only to find out later on how right she was about many things.

Having said that, i still think that most of our sensuality should be kept for the privacy of our bedroom walls/whatever other location we prefer/find and i still don't agree with the mock crucifixion during one of her tours, but i cannot help but give props to the woman for standing her ground for so many years bringing out some truly solid pieces - whether it was great visuals, smart lyrics or simply fun stuff, this lady is a force to be reckoned with and i cannot help but congratulate her for all her work.

The new song is very fun and she looks great. How was that? Don't play the stupid game/Cause I'm a different kind of girl :D

I don't wanna flood the thread with videos cause it might slow down the page and i apologize if most of these have already been posted. I bet they have, unfortunately i haven't had the chance to go through all the 50 pages of discussion, but i hope you will all enjoy them. Some of them are obvious choices and some are lesser known things that slipped under the radar of some. The order is more or less random.

Die another day - I've always found it fascinating how that silhouette at the end of the video resembles Michael's This is it movie poster/album cover...And btw of her and Michael - i think we should all be thankful he turned down her offer to switch genders for the ITC video in which Naomi eventually did a great job and Herb Ritts marvelous directing. I believe we all need to thank Janet for her great advice. With all due respect to Madonna, that wasn't a very good idea. Who on earth can imagine Michael pretending to be a woman? LOL

Good luck to Madonna tomorrow night (
I'm positive she will do an awesome halftime show at the Superbowl) and with the new album :) Next time she's in town or in any town i might be in for that matter i'll make sure not to miss her show anymore. God bless her and her children.

I listened to the Give Me All Your Luvin’ video and it's not a great song imo. If they removed the cheerleaders chant it would be a much better song, imo. Still, not a strong song to be the first single from the album.

It's been a while I don't get connected to any of her albums. He had strong albums in the 80's. As from the 90's not many of her songs caught my attention.

Although I personally like the song, I have to agree. As a first single, the song isn't strong enough in my opinion. Because in terms of the public reception the song is getting, it's not doing very well, While there are some people who are happy about the song, most people are complaining about it. I am sure that Madonna released this song believing that it would be a hit. But it's getting a lukewarm reception at best. Madonna actually should have released "Masterpiece" as a single to promote the "W.E." film soundtrack and the MDNA album at the same time because "Masterpiece" appears on both albums. And it had been awhile since people heard her singing a ballad. I believe it would have been a better way to launch the album. As a Madonna fan, it hurts me to see what's going on with the "Give Me All Your Luvin'" tune and the album is still almost two months away from being released. This is all just what I think. I will still buy the album though.

While Masterpiece is a much better song, I don't think it would have been wise to release that as a first single as for the most part ballads don't do well in the charts these days. What I don't like even more about the single is that she's released it with Nicki and M.I.A, she doesn't need them to have a hit, and it only makes the song worse in my opinion, but it will probably appeal more to the younger crowd now. Hoping the album will be different than this single.

I like Masterpiece. It's a light song and well produced. It could do well in the charts. However, as it's been already released in the movie, not sure if it would be appropriate to be the first single.

Awesome halftime show by Madonna. I liked it. I've seen a lot of negative comments on FB and Twitter about her lip synching. But don't all halftime performers do that? Nothing new. Also seeing a lot of agist comments. We should celebrate when an older woman achieves something and does it as good or better than someone half her age. Anyway, Madonna at 53 has still got it!

I thought it was good. At one point I thought she almost lost her balance at the top of the bleachers but she kept it together and kept going. I think she sang live at some points and others not so more during the dancing parts. Others have done that too.

This might sound dumb but with this talk about the pepsi commercial reminding people of remember the time, the beginning of the half time show reminded me of that for some reason as well.

I think she mimed the whole thing, however I don't see it as a problem as a lot of artists including MJ mimed their superbowl performances. It was quite obvious Madonna was very nervous during her performance and it caused her to look quite stiff in some of her dancing. The production was simply fantastic though, probably the best the superbowl has ever had, I would have loved to see what MJ could have done with that production.
She seems to be receiving a lot of negative reception on twitter, it wasn't her best performance, but it wasn't too bad, I think it would have been received a lot better had she sang live, but most big artists don't at the superbowl anyway.

Are people complaining about her age? She looks good for 53. I thought it was kinf of funny she sang Express Yourself for a few seconds there.

Madonna did an incredibly theatrical and intricate performance that very few could pull off. I had goosebumps and was so nervous for her. I have seen mostly positive reaction to her halftime performance. Only negative stuff seems to be those who can't fathom a 53 year old woman dancing, etc. To hell with all those ageist idiots! I couldn't be more proud of Madonna.

The performance was not flawless for me, but it was good and the second half was definitely better. Madonna did great overall and looked amazing. I enjoyed it overall-especially "Like A Prayer".

:yes::yes: And i couldn't agree wit cha more :D The performance was absolutely marvelous. She did seem nervous in the beginning (who wouldn't be in such a circumstance? you wouldn't be human), but she relaxed and let loose a bit after. It was like every minute of it brought a new surprise, absolutely terrific. Nicki and M.I.A did great :clapping:, the LMFAO boys were hilarious and Cee Lo's 'intervention' was more than timely. Grand production with awesome visuals and great message and choir at the end. I've absolutely and totally loved it, i really did.:bow::bow:

I couldn't actually watch it live cause for some reason the NFL live stream didn't work on this side of the pond; the signal must've gotten lost in the middle of the Atlantic or somethin lol. I was actually readin' up on wiki before the kickoff about the rules of the game because it is soo different from the soccer we are used to round here. And btw of sports and anticipation, this whole thing reminded me a bit of an NBA final in the late 90s when i was cheerin' for the Bulls and i've 'sacrificed' my own viewin' pleasure at the end of the game and switched channels so that the guys would get that final shot. MJ made sure they won lol. These days technology got in the way and i initially had planned watchin' the vids that were rumored to be the set list on utube, but in the end i opted for another thing and i'm very pleased with my choice :cheeky:

Before that though i've throughly enjoyed all the commercials. I actually love TV commercials and i think they can be sooo cool (unlike radio ones which can border on the silly and ludicrous, at least round here) and i can devour them like there's no tomorrow. All the ones tonight were absolutely sensational. I really can't single out stuff cause i'd be doin' a grave injustice because the overwhelminggg majority of them had a bit magiq in 'em - whether funny beyond belief or inspirational, with common folk or famous folk, humans or animals - they all :punk:Honest congrats to all the marketing brains and technical teams behind those gems. Here are all of 'em to enjoy.

I still need to see them all again, as the performance because they were too good and i'm positive i've missed a few things lol. I stiiiiill can't believe how awesomely this day o' mine has started. Many thanks to all those who contributed to makin' it such a holiday to quote one of Madonna's songs

AWESOME, AWESOME JOB EVERYBODY.
Deeply heartfelt congrats from this shabtastic corner of world

I watched on youtube. It was a an awesome performance. Very well rehearsed. Agree with Cinnamon, Like a prayer was the best!.

The halftime show was really amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The beginning was stunning, the middle was awesome, the ending was epic!!!!!!!!

I got so frustrated with some of the negative comments!!!But then I thought that all I have to do is just ignore them!

People are just never pleased with anything!!!!!!!!God!

It was absolutely spectacular!

Here's the performance:

I think it was totally amazing, from start to finish! Yeah, it was lip-synced, but let's not forget the choreography she's doing is quite intense so it would have been hard to sing live and even more harder to hit the right notes. A performance doesn't have to be automatically bad when it's playback!
It's also amazing to watch how fit she is! I've said it a thousand times, but it's really unbelievable this woman is 53 years old!!!

Also, Madonna is conquering the charts again :D

Her album MDNA is currently in more than 50 countries number 1 on iTunes, including all European countries, Latin America, the US, UK, Canada and Australia!

Her new single Give Me All Your Luvin' is also starting to take off now, it's numer 2 on the US iTunes Charts!

I didn't think the choreography has intense at all really, but the woman is 53, plus she doesn't seem to lip sync all that much, and well everyone lips at the Superbowl. I see the media are trying to make another scandal with M.I.A. pulling the middle finger, to be honest I didn't even notice it and I've watched it a few times now, they just try to make something out of nothing.

MDNA has actually dropped to number 4 on the iTunes UK chart, I'm really surprised!! I'm sure it will be back up to number one soon though and I'm confident it will open at number one in the UK, she is huge here :)

GMAYL is currently at number 14 here too.

I had the impression that the only part she didn't lip-synch was Like a Prayer, which is the song the choreography is not too intense.

She's great. I'm really in love with this performance. It was amazing and i can't say enough words to express emotions about this show.

I heard that she did injure herself during rehearsals so maybe that's why she was tentative in her dance moves early in the performance. I could not even walk in those high heeled boots so props to Madonna, she was entertaining and that's what it's all about. Oh, and I never even noticed that M.I.A. person's gesture. I don't think anybody noticed. My eyes were on Madonna and the entire production.

Madonna had a pulled hamstring during rehearsals but it wasn't anything to keep her from performing. The woman fell off a horse and still did a world tour so a pulled muscle isn't anything. She's a force to be reckoned with!

wasn't Michael's super bowl performance the most watched?
Latest news said Madonna's watched by more than 110 million, the most
but I remember some old news and VD said Michael was watched by 135 million

Madonna announces next world tour

Madonna has announced the dates for her latest world tour, which will start in Israel in May.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-16924257

The 53-year-old will play two dates in the UK, while the tour will also visit South America and Australia, where she has not performed in 20 years.

The announcement comes days after the Like A Prayer singer performed during half time at the US Super Bowl.

A record 111.3 million people tuned in for the game. Madonna's 12 minute performance received mixed reviews.

According to Nielsen, the company that tracks TV viewing figures, the football game was the most watched show in US history.

Rude gesture

However, TV network NBC and the National Football League (NFL) apologised on behalf of rapper M.I.A, who appeared as a featured artist during Madonna's set.

The British hip hop musician raised her middle finger whilst facing the camera during the performance. The picture was temporarily scrambled, but it came too late to avoid the gesture being shown.

The three artists performed Madonna's new single, Give Me All Your Luvin NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said there had been a "failure in NBC's delay system".

He added: "The gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologise to our fans."

NBC spokesman Christopher McCloskey blamed NFL, saying the organisation "hired the talent and produced the halftime show".

He added: "Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologise to our viewers."

Some news outlets in the US have reported that M.I.A. will have to personally pay any fines imposed on NBC as a result of her gesture.

High earner

Fifty dates have been announced so far for Madonna's tour, which will start on 29 May and visit 26 European cities including Paris, Milan, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dublin and Berlin.

Madonna's last world tour earned $408m (£250m) She will also perform in Canada and the US in August, September and October.

Speaking on Graham Norton's BBC One show last month, the singer said she was planning an extensive tour "because I have to pay the rent".

Her last global outing, with the Sticky And Sweet tour, made $408m (£250m) over two years.

With dates in 32 countries, it broke the record for the highest grossing tour ever by a solo artist, which had previously been held by the singer's 2006 Confessions tour.

"I do enjoy it, truthfully," she told Norton. "I enjoy putting the show together. I enjoy the first two weeks, and I enjoy the last two weeks.

"It's hard work but, for me, it's the most rewarding of all my jobs.

"To be able to stand on the stage and feel that very visceral connection with human beings, and that thing that only music can do with other humans - there's nothing like it."

Madonna has become known for expensive, elaborate stage shows featuring acrobats, skateboarders, bagpipe players and multiple sets.

The Sticky And Sweet tour even incorporated a Ukrainian gypsy group, the Kolpakov Trio, who accompanied the pop star on her hit single La Isla Bonita.

As a result, ticket prices can be relatively high.

The most expensive tickets for the star's 2012 world tour will be £125, although there will be £40 tickets available for the gig at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium on 21 July.

Passes for the concert at London's Hyde Park on 17 July have a starting price of £70.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, 10 February, at 10:00 am.

I may go & see her for the 3rd time if she performs outside London & I can afford it.
