Me too, I've been following her Q & A sessions on Twitter. Even the mundane questions/answers are fun. I like her candor and openness.
I've been read that that MDNA is going to have a huge second week drop on the charts but that's to be expected. I've seen many catty remarks about it but let's face it - she's 53, isn't doing ANY conventional promotion, and the media/radio is horrifically ageist. I think Madonna knows this and that's why she's focusing on the tour where age is just a number.

^ I've read those too, she's dropped to number 7 this week in the UK, which isn't bad. I've been reading there will be a 90% drop in sales this week, the problem is this album hasn't had a hit yet, its lacking the 4 Minutes single which kept Madonna on everyones mind. But it's only the albums second week, things could change at the drop of a hat. I don't think Madonna is all that interested in promoting her singles and albums, she knows no matter what her tour will be very successful and touring is much more important to album sales.
Yeah, it dips 80% in its second week in the USA. Of course, the internet trolls are crying doomsday for Madonna but when will they ever learn???... You can't count her out. It's only the second week and it's already selling better than Hard Candy. It should easily go gold which is good in this day and age (unless you're Adele who has fans who actually still buy albums). Her manager is tweeting that there will be future promo before and during the tour (including tv spots) so we will have to wait and see how it all pans out. I have faith in Madonna and have been there through the good and bad times. No fair weather fan here!

I totally agree. I choose to stay with Madonna also. But I wish that Madonna would release a video for "Masterpiece" which could help the album sales.

I grow up with Madonna's music. I enjoy everything from Like a Prayer, to Take a Bow, to Ray of Light.
I'm certainly not counting her out. I'm sure her upcoming tour will be amazing. But, this album just doesn't do it for me. With MDNA, I feel she's not pioneering, but following the trend.
There are still people buying albums (physcial and digital). Of course, the album sales figure won't be anything like the one in the 80's and 90's because songs can be bought individually these days. People buy Adele's album because it's a good album with hit after hit. The songs in the album are well crafted. 21 gives people a break from electronic sounds with danceable beats. Also, radio stations just love playing 21. I heard Adele like 10 times in one day on the radio just the past weekend.
The two leading singles from MDNA are quite disappointing to me. Anyway, like what you guys said, it seems she's more interested in her tour than promoting this album. How I miss the days when a new album release was viewed as a big event. Now, a new album is like a concert souvenir item, like a T-shirt.

Madonna's "MDNA" sales may have plummeted in the new record's second week of release, but the singer's friends say it would be foolish to count the material girl out just yet.
"Can't deny that there [was] a drop on the second week of sales, and a significant one, but I would not say the CD tanked," Madonna's longtime publicist, Liz Rosenberg, tells me, responding to reports that "MDNA" has crashed and burned. "It still has had the highest debut of 2012 and was number one in many countries. And the game ain't over."
"MDNA" sold a massive 359,000 copies when it debuted at number one, before sales fell 88 percent to a mere 46,000 copies in its second week.
"This is Madonna's 12th album in a 30-year career," a friend of Madonna's tells me. "She just beat Elvis' record for number ones in the UK. That's a career that anyone in the music business would kill to have. Plus, she did no traditional TV appearances to promote it. Just wait until her sold-out tour starts and more singles are released. That's when Madonna will start pushing the CD hard."

I agree, or Free Falling, its very reminiscent of the Ray Of Light days I think! They'd be hit and miss in today's charts though I think.

You're probably right. I guess it's because I feel that the acoustic songs could become hits since the dance songs on the album have gotten such bad reactions from alot of the public.

No, 21 keeps selling for the same reason a Susan Boyle album sales, it taps an older market who still buy physical copies of albums. Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa can all listen and enjoy and will go out and buy it instead of just illegally downloading it like our youth. 21 sort of bridges a generational gap. It's a modern day "Tapestry" in its mass appeal. It also helps that the media LOVES Adele (not that she doesn't deserve the love). Madonna, although hugely successful for 30 years, has always maintained an underdog sensibility from the beginning of her career and taken many chances. Many have paid off, some have not. Not promoting AT ALL was a HUGE mistake but what can one do? As a fan, I've gotta hope for the best and hope that her manager is being honest when he suggests there will be future promotions for the album. Either way, so many want to see her fail and so it's no surprise that the haters come out in droves. So many hate on her for the sake of hating. Madonna literally has "journalists" like Roger Friedman who chomp at the bit to knock her down a peg or two. You'd think after this long, they'd all learn... but I guess not. Oh well, as the article suggests, the game ain't over and Madonna ALWAYS gets the last laugh.

I hear Turn Up The Radio is being released as the next single.
I think out of the 3, if any will be big it will be this, but even still out of admittedly an album I didn't find all that great I think the single releases have been managed very poorly.

Oh, and I also like that Madonna talked to her fans on Twitter. I wouldn't want her to tweet every single move she's doing every day (like some other celebrities tend to do), but answering fan's question is really appreciated and interesting!
About the album: MDNA isn't my favourite album, but for me, it's really better than Hard Candy. From the quality of the music, I'd say Confessions is a bit better, but MDNA is much more varied than Confessions! My favourite tracks from the album are Gang Bang (how cool is that song?), Falling Free (one of the most beautiful songs she has ever done IMO) and Love Spent.
I think it's also interesting that she's singing about her marriage & divorce with Guy Ritchie, for example in I Don't Give A, Love Spent, Falling Free or I Fucked Up.
By the way, on Thursday, the premiere of her "Truth Or Dare" parfume took place in NY! Here are some pictures:

My fave songs on the album are Girl Gone Wild, Beautiful Killer, Gang Bang (Yes, VERY cool!), Masterpiece, Falling Free, I'm Addicted, Some Girls...Some songs I find do follow the trends more than set them....Either way, I think it's a pretty good album...

As you might have heard, sales of her latest album, MDNA, suffered the biggest second-week drop in chart history. Since the news broke, the highly regarded Lefsetz Letter has stated bluntly that Madonna has lost touch with her audience. Forbes contributor Roger Friedman blames Madonna for creating boring songs and not caring. The problem is that her naysayers are measuring the wrong metric. Especially for multi-media brands like Madonna, sales of compact discs don’t count for much anymore – and haven’t for about 10 years. The real action for the Madonnas, U2s, and Bruce Springsteens of the world comes from sales of tickets and merchandise. We won’t be able to assess the health of the Madonna brand until the sales results are known for her 2012 World Tour, which begins on May 29 in Israel and comes to North America on August 28. So far, reports of preliminary ticket sales have been largely positive, but it’s best to wait until actual revenues are reported.
Ironically, MDNA was engineered to realize a sales drop – certainly not to the magnitude that Madonna probably expected, but a drop was indeed part of the plan. As Billboard reported, “MDNA’s” large fall was expected, as its debut was bolstered by sales gained from a concert ticket/album promotion as well as pre-orders from iTunes.” In other words, the CD supports the tour, not the other way around — a strategy that makes perfect business sense for a well established act.

But the album has not seduced me. Yes, he is better than Hardy Candy. Maybe I have not fallen in love with MDNA why I was expecting something like Ray of Light which is my favorite album. But I really was a bit disappointed with the new album and the videos. Madonna can do better. I miss the old Madonna videos that was so incredible in the past.

Agreed with you on the videos of Give Me all Your Loving and Girl Gone Wild. They are just not exciting enough. I watched Girl Gone Wild once and had no desire to hit replay. Don't get me wrong. I think it's beautifully filmed. Unlike Lady Gaga's videos, Madonna's are aesthetically pleasing. But, the concept is getting boring as everyone out there is pretty much doing the same thing. The theme is something Madonna has done, very well, two decades ago.

^^Was thinking about the same thing. Girl Gone Wild video reminds me of Human Nature. And, I prefer Human Nature. There is certain je nai se quoi in Madonna's past videos that the cureent two lack.

I don't even think I've seen the whole Give Me All Your Lovin' video....Probably because I really don't like that song...
Yes, I'd say I like Human Nature video better, too...For some reason, I think Girl Gone Wild should have been shot in colour...It's such an upbeat song...The black and white colour for Human Nature suited that song much better..It had a much harder beat and tempo to it...

Human Nature wasn't shot in black and white. The background was white and the dancers were wearing black. As far as the last two videos go, I think they are pretty great and a step in the right direction. They show she cares and put effort in to them to make them good. I think her older videos are all pretty amazing but I also think time makes us nostalgic and therefore modern videos don't get a fair shake in comparison.

Yes, I miss the 80's and the 90's - the golden age of music video. The impact is greater when watching videos on TV than on YouTube. Much more thought and resources were put in the making of videos before. It seems the video era comes and goes with Michael. However, it doesn't take away the fact that the videos of Give Me All Your Luvin' and Girl Gone Wild are lacking. I respectfully disagree with you that Madonna's "modern" videos are heading to the right direction. In terms of creativity, the two latest videos are second-tier Madonna.
Sorry for sounding harsh. Give Me All Your Luvin' looks more like a Katy Perry video. I don't understand why Madonna chose this song to launch the album and perform at the Super Bowl. I'm still scratching my head. As for Girl Gone Wild, I'm quite tired of and bored with this whole "boy toy" concept, not because I'm coy, but because everyone else has been or is doing the same thing. You know, the naked male background dancers, the hot shorts, the boots, the chains. It's been done too many times. It feels de javu.
People will always compare Madonna's latest efforts to her older works. It's inevitable. I understand it's not easy for her to raise up the bar and meet the challenge every time. But, when she does, it's exciting to see.
^ I understand what you're saying and yes, it has to be frustratingly hard to raise the bar each time after 30 years in the game. I can't imagine the pressure one would feel after so long under the media microscope. Other artists lose the public interest after far less time but Madonna never has and so everything she does, hit or miss, is always under scrutiny. Everything is always compared to her past work. It slightly reminds me of MJ, but of course his case was far more severe (everything being held to Thriller standards). I am no fair weather fan and just want Madonna to keep marching to the beat of her own drum and doing what she feels is right. The music is still great and that's all that matters. I'm still in love with MDNA. The handling of the launch was iffy and no PR is mind boggling BUT the music is good and that's what I'll be concentrating on. After all these years Madonna manages to remain fresh and exciting and the critics tend to agree (MDNA is a critical smash). I'm hoping for future promotion and for the tour to help push the album, but if not, oh well. Life goes on and Madonna will still cry all the way to the bank.

Well, after hating the album at first, I'm really liking it. I've been a fan of Madonna since Holiday, so we're talking 30 years now. She's my favourite artist after MJ (hence me starting this thread), but unlike MJ she's never released perfect albums, being mainly a singles artists (in my eyes).
Her only really great albums to me are American Life & Hard Candy (both from the last decade), Her 80s & 90s albums were all good with brilliant moments and unlike many I was disappointed by Ray Of Light, Music & hated most of Confessions.
MDNA is definitely listenable all teh way through with some really good moments such as I Don't Give A, I'm A Sinner & Love Spent. There are no really bad songs (but not a fan of Gang Bang - but would love to see a Tarantino directed video).
I'm still not sure if there's 2 AMAZING tracks that most other M albums have (e.g. Music has Music & Don't Tell Me, Confessions has Hung Up & Jump, Bedtime Stories has Secret & Take A Bow, Erotica has Rain & Deeper and Deeper etc)
The promo has been awful, I thought it started well with the Superbowl but that was it. The 2 videos are dodgy and unlike Hard Candy there's been no live performances needed to make an impact.
Anyway, at least it hit #1 in most places giving her the UK record.
Also, if anyone hasn't got it already, get the acoustic version of Love Spent from iTunes - it's brilliant.
