Surely, the only other artist apart from Michael that has emerged in the last 25 years that is still relevant today is Madonna.

She is still at the top of her game and unlike Prince (who I do like) can release an album or single today and it will hit the top.

I know this will get many responses that she's only famous for re-inventing herself & using her sexuality to get where she's got but that's simply not true.

My argument against the re-inventing thing is that she simply knows how to move with the times. Take 'Hung Up' for example, just when you thought her best days were over she releases a track that pop artists today would kill to make. At 47 she made a song that sounded so up to date it was futuristic.

She's also not a puppet, she has written more number one hits than any other female. Her concerts are ground breaking, and dare I say it, more enjoyable than even Michael's because every tour has something new. Although Mike slightly refines each routine. You know what Billie Jean, Beat It & the J5 medley will look like each time, where as Madonna will perform fully different versions of her hits to keep them fresh and she's learned to sing live. In fact her voice has developed amazingly in the last 10 years.

Where Madonna lacks compared to MJ is the quality of her albums. Although she is a lot more prolofic than Michael (in the last 7 years we've had 2 albums and one confirmed for this year) there are only 2 that I can fully play without skipping any tracks. Michael's are more complete.

Singles wise, however, she has made some amazing pieces of work:

Like A Prayer
Vogue
Hung Up
Music
Don't Tell Me
Papa Don't Preach
American Life
Ray Of Light
Secret
Rain

To name just 10. She has had approx 70 Top 10 hits in the UK and has inspired every female artist going today.

Re: Madonna

I have to agree with you on that one!!!

I like her, I have almost all of her albums. My fav albums of her are Like a prayer and Confessions. It's funny because there are almost 20 years between these 2.

Re: Madonna

I love Madonna, her and Michael are like my parents, I grew up with them all my life. I saw her live 2 years ago for the first time and I was amazed by her performances, so much energy. But I have to say if MJ and Madonna performed for one night only, on the same date...I'd be buying my ticket to see Michael.

Any news on Madonnas new album, Im sure it must be out soon?

Re: Madonna

Yeah I love Madonna too. My fave song of hers is probably "Live To Tell" or "Take A Bow".

Re: Madonna

Madonna's new album is slated to hit stores this April. She is rumored to be performing her new single "4 Minutes to Save the World" at the Super Bowl. We'll see.

Madonna is obviously a huge part of my life. I have every album there is to have. I love her just as much as I do Michael. Both are incredible artists, each in their own way. The days of true legends and icons like Elvis, MJ, and Madonna are over.

Re: Madonna

I like Madonna, but I think she's kind of overrated. Her singing isn't all that, and she's mostly known for her personal life, not her music.

Re: Madonna

Madonna is certainly known for pushing the envelope but the music is just as memorable.

i love how you put that!I feel the same way.

Re: Madonna

Madonna is a wonderful she has been such an icon for the gay community and has helped reclaim female sexuality, and she has such an array of great songs like MJ.
Borderline, lucky star, take a bow, human nature ( my favourite from MJ aswell )express yourself..even confessions, her latest album is catchy as hell!
thats the short version.I could go on about Madonna.

I am not sure what to make of this album and the people she chose to work with. I heard 'Candy shop' and its not my thing, the lyrics are so 'immature', something I would have expected from 50, JT etc not her. (imo). But we'll wait and see.

Re: Madonna

I saw an "art photo" of a naked guy bending over as Madonna, on her knees and also nude, bites his ass. I told a Madonna fan that it wasn't art, but rather just a picture of Madonna biting some guy's butt, and she got all mad and started saying some feminist mumbo jumbo in defense. So I stopped listening and went to watch Nelly's Tip Drill on YouTube, which by the way is in fact a work of art.

Anyway, my favorites are Beautiful Stranger and Die Another Day. Can't really get into any of the vintage stuff.

Re: Madonna

A proper artist / performer will be contraversial and get people talking. That's what Madonna does, it's what Michael, Eminem, The Beatles & Elvis all did.

WIth Madonna (and Mike) you get excellent music quality as well.

You don't get superstars anymore, any existing ones started in the '80's and music is missing that right now.

No new release gets me excited like going and buying a new MJ or Madonna album.

Re: Madonna

I love Madonna. I didn't become a fan until 1992. I was late. Now I'm a die-hard fan. I can't wait for her new album. Hers is the other major album release I'm waiting for besides Michael's and Janet's.

Ray of Light and Confessions.... are my favorite Madonna albums although I have them all.

Confessions, Music and Ray Of Light are absolutely amazing.

I have them all too. I'm also looking forward to the new album but somehow the new leaks have kinda made me wary.
Candy Shop and TBGO are very bland in comparrison to her earlier material.

Re: Madonna

i like her older stuff ala "like a prayer" i guess the real pop sounding songs. like some of the babyface songs on bedtime stories like take a bow but other than that im not into euro dancy cover stuff which is what she seems to have been doing for the last few years.

Re: Madonna

My favourite style is her 80s.

Exactly.

I think that even comparing Madonna and Michael is just, stupid. It's a waste of time.

Re: Madonna

Well they don't compare artistically or talent wise at all. Michael is on a whole other level. But Madonna has chosen the right material for herself and she has some great songs and she's managed her career better then just about anyone. She knows her limitations at least. That's a lot more then I can say for any of todays acts.

Re: Madonna

Madonna looks very good for a woman her age, and her daughter is beautiful.

As a musician, I find her overrated, but I like a lot of her stuff. And she's highly intelligent, especially when it comes to promote herself. Business-wise she is just a very tough lady.

Re: Madonna

I often heard "Michael Jackson's closest competitor is not Prince or others but Madonna".

I don't think people are comparing Madonna with Michael based on vocal. Nonetheless I do think people are comparing these two based on their strength to influence pop culture worldwide.

Exactly. It's not a talent comparison. Each have their strengths and are incredibly different artists. People need to stop being so darned sensitive. Madonna is talented or else she wouldn't be what she is today. You can only last so long if you're a one trick pony.

Re: Madonna

I love Madonna too - especially the Human Nature video - such talent. I was hooked when I saw that. But I don't love her as much as I love Michael.

That video is quite possibly my most favorite ever. Such tight choreography.
