I don't know, I just don't really care for it. Maybe it'll grow on me - I didn't like Rollercoaster at first, either.

Does anyone know when the album can first appear on charts? I'm guessing next week. But I'm not sure.

I'm glad I came in the thread.. To know about Janet being on Larry King Tomarrow.. We should let people know in the general forum. or do they all ready?

CHART DISCIPLINE: Look for Michael Jackson’s little sister Janet to enter next week’s chart at #1, with her new IDJ album Discipline headed for 180k in sales, give or take, based on one-day sales reports from our retail minions. Universal Motown’s neo-soul stalwart Erykah Badu is a lock for #2 (hey, that rhymes) with between 125-135k. Three-time chart-topper Jack Johnson’s Brushfire/Universal Republic album will fight it out for #3 with 70k alongside Asylum’s Webbie, Canvasback/ Columbia’s resurgent Oscar winner Once and J’s Alicia Keys, with a Target circular slot, all between 60-70k. Rhino’s Juno should see a nice bump from awards activity to 50-55k, while Asylum’s Shawty Lo will see a debut in the area of 30-35k. Overall, the market was down 19% vs last week, down 13% vs same week last year and now down 12% year-to-date. Keep on chooglin’, people. (2/27p)

"So Much Betta" is my song! There's nothing else like it on radio right now, great song.

Just wanted to say that I like it now, it's really grown on me. One of the best songs on the album. :punk:

Hey!! a prediction at number 1 already??
that's fantastic! i'm so excited for janet
can't wait to see her on larry king tomorrow!

I'm undecided whether or not to buy this album. I've heard Feedback once and thought it mediocre. If I'm to listen to Janet moan and groan and talk (for the 100% time) about her sexual fantasies then I'll pass.Thats all too boring now.

Please someone convince me that this will be a worthwhile purchase, I'm in need of some new tunes on my ipod.

180-200,000 for a brand new album is pretting low for Janet.. especially for that 1st week..
especially for the amount of promo her label is doing...she should be 350 - 400,000 for a decent 1st week...

her album (to me) .. is just too weak... i thought LA Reid would have given her better material...she needed a hit like Rihanna's DONT STOP THE MUSIC...........

..but next week we will know the true figure...

The album is doing well its only been out for two days or so. Its gonna shift more I think and with the LK interview should help the figures some more.

CD's though haven't been selling well at all in the US. i don't know about other places. the last cd that i bought before Thriller 25 was Invincible almost 7 yrs ago.
So all things considered and how easy it is for people to access illegal bootlegs of thinks I would say about 200,000 is really amazing, especially for a woman who's been in the business about 30 yrs.

ugggh- Rihanna!

blaspheme Rasta- and btw 350,000 is extremely high for any music first week - sales are on decline

I got the album today... I have not listened to the album in full yet.. I will be throughout the day..

It was only 9.98 at target.. They had a limited edition version with a DVD of the making of 'Disipline' for $11 bucks..

Pretty cheap considering....

Love the new album! At first listen, overall I thought it was okay. After a couple additional listens, I love it. My favorite tracks are Luv and Rollercoaster. So Much Betta is close behind. I love the beat to it. Classic Janet all around imo! :)

You and me both. One first listen, I was like, 'so-so', but now that I've heard it a few times, this is her best effort since The Velvet Rope.

I don't know why the di#kheads of radio won't play Feedback, RWU or Luv (although it could pick up later) ~~ they are still salty over the SB, I suppose.

The standouts on this CD are her slow ballads, surprisingly. Ne-Yo killed 'Can't B Good'. Sounds straight like something MJ would sing and reminds me of 'Human Nature'. Well produced, musically.

My favorite is 'Greatest X'. If Janet releases this song, my prediction right now is that this will be the best song of her career. Stunning pop anthem. The guitar rip at the end has the potential to be a 'Purple Rain' moment.

The others:

Feedback -- kwel,

Luv -- my fav uptempo song on the album,

Rollercoaster -- okay, a classic Janet sound ~ something that JJ and TL would've done,

Rock With U -- kwel, nice club song,

2nite -- very nice (Taj wrote this one, along with others)

Can't B Good -- stand out song written by NeYo. He killed it. Janet's best vocals are on this song.

Never Letchu Go -- okay, (nice guitar rip by the great Ernie Isley of the Isley Brothers)

Greatest X -- stand out, certifiable smash HIT SONG, Grammy 'Song of the Year' worthy.

So Much Betta -- don't know yet. Only heard it all the way thru once and it's so-so. So far.

The 1 Featuring Missy Elliott -- I was a bit let down with this one; expected more from the Miz, but have only heard it all the way thru once.

What's Ur Name -- nice, another tune that reminds me of an old MJ song...

Discipline -- If you are going to bad, then be very, very bad! Or as Mae West once said, When 'I'm good, I'm good. When I'm bad, I'm verrrrry good'! :p Janet used to talk like Mae West when she was 7. I guess she knew she was a hot tot, even then! Discipline was the surprise here. After all of the talk about it being so sex--y, it's actually very good in a very 'bad girl' way. I can't hate on Janet for it. She did her dang thang on it!

Curtains -- nice...

Let Me Know (US Bonus Track) -- nice...

All in All, it's a B- cd. Baby sis done good here.:punk:

I don't think the album is weak, the problem is that her singles aren't getting radio play and strong CD sales requires a strong lead single.

Having said that though, she is in line to come in at the 1 spot next week. She is doing very well on iTunes right now:

FB -- #7 song overall, #4 Pop
Discipline -- #2 cd overall; #1 Pop cd

Is the Bonus track, on all the CDs inthe U.S, or just certain stores?

great review, mello. pretty much agree with everything except your enthusiasm on Greatest X - it's a great tune but not as much of a stand-out imo (the bridge is nice, though - classic Velvet Janet). and "ever, ever, ever.." doesn't help when your mind tracks back to the distressing "ella, ella, ella.." LOL

And that distressing 'ella, ella, ella' song was #1 for a good amount of time!

I can tell ya that Janet's ever, ever, ever sounds much better though.

It's funny how peeps either really love the Umbrella song or really hate it! :p

But I stand by it. It can be a big hit for her, but I suspect that the NeYo song will be the one released later on this year. Perhaps Janet can have her 'to the left, to the left, to the left' moment....:p

that made it 30x more distressing! i was on holiday in China and heard it like at least twice a day  LOL

but yeah, it probably will do good. but Can't B Good is something else.. Luv and Rock With U should really be doing well

I downloaded (payed legally) the songs today and just finised listening. There were a couple of nice songs. The one with Missy (cuz I like Missy) , Rollercoaster was nice but I felt like something was missing from it, I expected it to go somewhere but it stayed the same most of the time.
Maybe I'll find it more pleasing after listening it more. But I wished more fast songs, the slow jams were just *yawn*
