The song should have been taken into the recording studio and finished and cleaned up a little before it was released. It could have been so much better in my opinion.

Yeah I agree with all of this. I actually really like the song and Michael's voice in it, but I agree that it's not really lead single material. Especially not for someone like MJ who was a perfectionist. I don't think he would have approved of this song being released, well at least never as a first single. No way.
 
After all the hype and anticipation for 'This Is It' the song, In my opinion, it stinks.

This 26 year old demo recording isn't up to scratch and it is my belief Mike knew it! As others have already stated, Sony had a golden opportunity here, given the circumstances, to release some new material. Something that would have gotten people talking positively, something that would have promoted the movie accordingly. Instead, we get an unfinished, mediocre song.

As MJ fans, we can find some positives about the song, but the general population, the demographic that really matters when it comes to making $$$, dislike it! and rightly so...

As I said, In my opinion, the song stinks. It's boring. Plain and simple. It's definitely not a song you want promoting anything.

Sony have really put the screws to Mike :(...To them , it's a job well done.
 
The movie "This is it" ends with footage from his funeral so why would Sony release music MJ worked on with R Kelly, Ne-Yo and Will i am. Maybe the songs he worked with them didn't relate to the end of the movie and funeral footage.

Sony's plan is for everyone to be crying and balling in tears when they hear this song at the end of the movie and it will work.

Playing some new up tempo jam with footage from his funeral at the end of the movie would be horrible from Sony. I think you will get my point when you watch the end of the movie on October 28th. The song is perfect for the end of the movie.

Its not that deep. They went with this single to promote the movie... The single has the SAME title as the movie. Its just that simple.

Fans are making this a drama as per usual.
 
Yoko Ono gave Paul, George, and Ringo a couple of demos John Lennon sang into a tape recorder in the late 1970s in 1994. The surviving Beatles took the low quality tapes and recorded new music and added their vocals to the tracks and released them as the "new" songs "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love" in 1995 for the Anthology project. This is kinda similar, except that The Beatles & Yoko approved the release of the 2 songs. It wasn't because a record label decided to put out some unfinished track to fit some vague concept (This Is It), when it really has nothing to do with it, and claim it was recently recorded.
 
This is it is the perfect song to close the movie.

You all hear me! I shout it in all those hater faces again the PERFECT song to end the movie.Just wait and see.Case closed!
 
The song was alos played on GMTV and they had a music critic and a fan on the sofa. Unfortunately the fan was dressed in the Grammy awards costume, complete with shiny glove and socks and the critic was quite brutal with him, but the fan did seem to be slightly deranged. He also didn't seem to realise it was an old song.
The critic said several times that the song isn't very good but admitted he liked MJs catalogue very much and said this song does nothing to add to that. Why do shows have to find 'fanatical fans' to represent the fan community??

Dude I know! I watched it with my husband and was like...:doh: That guy was at the O2 and ruined our little tribute we had going. He is nuts. He was embarrassing to watch on tv. They ALWAYS have to pick out the NUTCASES! No offence, but when you are representing MJ and his fans.. don't make us look like we are psychos. I hate to sound harsh, but that's how I feel!

All in all, I liked the song.. obviously it was a demo, and Sony could have done more with it. MJ wouldn't have released it until it was perfect, with a choir and more stuff.. Sony could have done more though.
 
yes - Sony could have done more, but I think this song is a real grower. Especially the non-orchestral version. Listen to it through earphones and be transported!
 
It annoys me when people call the song boring. They just cant appreciate it.

Aw, you know what? I hope to God he isn't reading this board or this thread! Why are people so judgmental? Whatever happened to people being understanding of others? Isn't that what Michael taught? Embrace everyone, show love to everyone. He obviously loves Michael as much as the rest of us, and I personally don't give a shit about what the public think of MJ fans. They're wrong! Michael appealed to people who have been shut out and abandoned by the world and I for one am not ashamed of that. He was an ambassador for people who don't fit in. I embrace it, as EVERYBODY in this world is equal, no matter what the majority of people think. That's what is wrong with the world today in my opinion, and it makes me really sad.

To the guy who was on GMTV, if you are reading this, here's a big hug from me. :better:
 
Well, what can I say, I like the song. Just hearing something new (or unreleased) from Michael makes me happy. :wub:
I certainly didn't expect This is It to be a demo, but you know what? I refuse to be upset about all this now. I just want to enjoy Michael's voice.
This is the song to promote the film, so I am alright with that. No matter what song they will release, there will always be people who won't like it or would rather have something different because they think it would work better.

Regarding Paul Anka calling MJ a thief.

We, MJ fans, MUST take action. I do want to support the estate but I am not willing to give my money to Anka (for insulting Michael's memory and calling him a thief) or to McClain (for insulting MJ's legacy as a songwriter to cover up his own incompetency).

What do you guys think if, instead of buying the "this is it" soundtrack we buy the "number ones" album? (you can gift it to someone, if you already have the CD)

it would accomplish 2 things:

1) it would help #1 remain the best seller in the US (Taylor Swift is trailing MJ by only 86K, and she is re-releasing her album in November. She will definitely outsell MJ before the end of the year and take the #1 seller for 2009)

2) Paul Anka would not be getting our money. He is getting 50% publishing rights (rightfully so)....but do you really want to give your hard earned cash to that jerk after he call MJ a thief? I don't...I really really don't.

McClain will also receive $$ for finishing the song, and after insulting MJ's legacy, I do not want to honor him by buying this particular song. He should know better...he did not have to belittle MJ to cover his and Branca's mistake. That is UNACCEPTABLE from a co-executor of the estate.

Most fans want to support MJ's estate ...we can still do so without that jerk Anka profiting from it more than he should.
We cannot do anything about the song appearing at the end credit of the but the payment is usually a one-time fee.
Bottom line, Anka thinks he hit the jackpot and that pisses me off. He did not have to go to TMZ to call MJ a thief...MJ is not here to defend himself, but we the fans are.

Let's call for a group boycott of the "this is it" CD...and instead buy "Number ones". We can give the press advance warning, so they don't question fans' support for MJ.

I know we have tons of issues with Sony, but they did not insult MJ's memory.

Can we all organize this, together?

I really love this song :)
Michael's voice is so beautiful,and I think this song was exactly right.
Demo or not, I was happy to hear something new from Mike.
So why bother being upset?
With the movie coming up, I liked that they choose this song with the same theme :)

just one reason: a big mess at sony. first they don't do their homework and research who the possible collaborators on this song were and then they release the wrong version on the website. way to go sony!
 
I like the song, but I dont think MJ would have been happy with this release especially since it doesnt seem to be complete... do the SONY execs have no ears or brains??
 
Very nice song his vocals are amazing as always. Don't think its one of his best songs though but a lovely song.

No it ain't complete the man himself ain't here, and if he was the release would be bloody good because Mike would make sure of it.

I think as fans and for the fact we love Mike we should try and make this single/album do as well as we can.

The release though is being done so badly.
 
Whoever don't like it at the radio stations or the big music companies i.e sony have no idea how to handle talent now days thats why this is being dealt with so badly.

People who are judging this song aren't going to judge it right, because their judging something called music which well that's something they don't do often lol as everything you hear now is "B******S.

I just hope they don't play it down by saying "Another attempt by Michael Jackson" but then again we should say something to them like "Here's another attempt by a radio station at trying to make themselves look good lol.
 
Interestingly enough the most listened-to radio station over here played This is it for four times yesterday - today not one single time (although I know that some radio hosts and editors at that station are MJ fans) ... but Dirty Diana (they are playing some older MJ songs nearly each day). :scratch:

Hours after the pop singer's first posthumous single "This Is It" was released amid great hype on Monday, it emerged that the tune had been recorded 18 years ago by an obscure :rofl: Puerto Rican singer.

Moreover the co-author of that tune, "My Way" songwriter Paul Anka, threatened to sue Jackson's estate for proper credit and his share of royalties.

The administrators of the estate quickly acknowledged Anka's claims and granted him 50 percent of the copyright, a potentially massive payday for the 68-year-old Canadian crooner. And an equally massive loss for the estate.

"They realize it's a mistake, they realize it's my song, they realize it's my production of his vocal in my studio and I am getting 50 percent of the whole project, actually, which is fair," Anka said in a video posted on the TMZ gossip Web site.
