The Way He Makes Them Feel: Special Screening Update p5 *Merged*

Re: The Way He Makes Them Feel: Documentary on Michael's fans and his impact on the world

Wow. So much truth. I cannot wait. This looks like it comes from a more honest place than "We Are the Children". The fans were all so sweet, but I almost felt like they were being taken advantage of. It sort of seemed like it was made for entertainment purposes, like "Look at this! Can you believe how crazy obsessed these fanatics are?" I didn't get that vibe from this trailer, so hopefully this will be an honest portrayal of the wide variety of fans he has all over the globe. :clapping: So looking forward.

What was that one about? And I will be sure to see the documentry mentoned in the OP. It looks good from the trailer I see.

It is not a joke, that is my daughter. This enterview took place next to MJ's star her and I went to his star for his birthday that is when they asked her for the interview.

Cool!!! I will have to look at it again. :)

It followed a group of fans around the time of the trial. It wasn't bad. I mean, I liked it, it was sweet and the fans were definitely genuine, but it just...I don't know. Even though the description of the documentary said the aim was to show the humanity and normalcy of "Michael Jackson" fans, I almost felt like they were unknowingly being egged on, encouraged to show their fanatical side and express their individuality as much as possible (which I'm all for, but...) I just kinda' felt like this [""] for them,...as if they were being used. It's just kinda' felt a little exploitive. I think the problem (?) is that it followed one group of fans, (and they seemed to have picked the most...alternative? :mello:... fans they could have.) rather than talking to fans all over the world and showing how amazingly diverse his fan base is.

Regardless, the fans were all super sweet and awesome and it's definitely worth seeing. You can watch it here. http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/we_are_the_children/

Re: The Way He Makes Them Feel: Documentary on Michael's fans and his impact on the world

'If you don't like Michael you probably don't like puppies and kittens either.'

yeah..i think that quote from that fan, is quite accurate..along with the one about something being wrong in your heart, if you don't like him..that quote from another fan in there.

Re: The Way He Makes Them Feel: Documentary on Michael's fans and his impact on the world

Well, I gonna have to confess (and hopefully I will not be expelled from MJJC) - I am not really keen on puppies or kittens . And I'm not much into children either! LOL!

Okay, having just watched that trailer, I had to stop the tears from flowing. Such a wonderful and beautiful human being Michael was and its always great to hear other peoples thoughts on him.

:hysterical: What if you took away the parts like gnawing on furniture, shredding important papers and peeing on the carpet? Would you like puppies and kittens then? :mello: Wait... kids do things like that too sometimes

Somehow I had never seen "We Are the Children". Watched it the other night on snagfilms. I think what you said about it is just what happens when the filmmakers focus on a few individuals.... in that case a few of those there during the trial. Not everyone will relate to them completely. Like I certainly couldn't have quit my job and gone to Santa Maria (without a job & insurance, I'm a goner), but my heart was there (and thank you to all who did, because I think you really helped). I've never owned a Beat It jacket or felt like dressing up like Michael (no offense to those who do... it's just not my way of expressing my love and I'm pretty sure that I would look ridiculous, lol), but I've loved him completely for so many years. I don't even know at this point who the average MJ fan is. Judging from all the disagreements that take place just here on MJJC, lol, I think it's safe to say that we're everyone ... all ages, all looks, all ways of thinking, all levels of expression, like a huge random sampling of humanity, united by our love, respect and admiration for Michael.

Re: The Way He Makes Them Feel: Documentary on Michael's fans and his impact on the world

^ I completely agree. I love and respect all fans, all types, all people. That's what I love most about being an MJ fan is being part of a huge, *diverse* family that totally embraces our differences. The only thing that made it feel suspect to me was that the filmmaker said she was "getting away from all the hype and craze and showing the normalcy" of MJ fans. Yet she picked some people with mental disabilities and people who are considered "misfits" by society. That was, at best, misleading, at worst, exploitive. I have no problems with the film itself (and certainly not with the fans - I back them 100%), I just felt it was a veiled attempt at something dishonest on her part. -_- Anyway, Go us! We're all one anyway. United by Michael and love.

I agree with you. I saw "We are the children" the other night and whoever did the documentary had a clear idea in which "light" to portray" MJ fans. They picked a handful of people to go along with a certain "freak" cliche. I'm not calling those portrayed "freaks", absolutely not. But somehow I couldn't shake the feeling that the film maker was thinking that way.

That was most certainly exploitive and I wonder how those portrayed in the documentary felt about it.

It's one reason why many MJ fans are so wary when it comes to media work because one way or the other we have reason to fear that media is just looking for "freaks" and will do anything to portray us that way. Unless you do a decent documentary yourself, you have no voice over cutting etc- and Bashir is one such great example how the most innocent things can be turned around and cut into a horrifying nightmare.

For example, the girl's prayer was lovely and I got the idea behind it- the film maker focused on the "evil, leave this court room now" to show "freakish" qualities.
Or something about the girl talking to a journalist about the dates when MJ was "arrested". She was talking to a certain male journalist who was trying to convince her "he's not like that". There was a certain intent behind that story to portray the girl a certain way- it was tidbits like that that made clear to me why I didn't really like "we are the children".

Hopefully, "The Way He Makes Them Feel" follows through with what the trailer promises! That trailer looks and sounds GREAT!

Re: The Way He Makes Them Feel: Documentary on Michael's fans and his impact on the world

:) I know, that made me laugh too. Same goes for bunnies. Bunny haters are usually so anti-Michael.

I didn't know that! Bunnies are so cute. I used to have feed rabbits living around my school when I was a kid. Ha Ha Ha I think Michael is cuter than them, anyway Ha Ha ha:wub:
