Michael Jackson Mural to Adorn "Bad" Brooklyn Subway Station

I don't know. I came in the late 90's. But I heard back then Brooklyn was a scarey place!:scare2:

Yeah, pretty much all of NYC was a scary place in the 80's (although certain areas still are). I can't believe I used to cut gym class in high school and go to Times Square to hang out with my friends at the arcade (once or twice, heh). That was dangerous!

Love those BAD photos posted by Souldreamer7!

Station to get Michael Mural

Hoyt-Schermerhorn station,Which was used as the location for Michael Jackson's Bad short film, has finally been given permission by the city council to put up a Mural of the pop megastar.
Plans to name the station after the King of Pop fell through but they agreed to put up a mural instead.
Its just another thing being done to keep Michael Jackson's memory alive.

Re: Station to get Michael Mural

Too bad it wasn't named after him but still great news!

I hope the guy who does the artwork uses the music video as a reference.

although more ambitious plans to rename the station Hoyt-King of Pop, or place a shiny plaque therein have been abandoned

Hehe Hoyt-King of Pop Street sounds a little funny.

Ooh I can't wait until the mural is done so I can go see it. Thanks for the update.

I was just there the other day. That station looks like it hasn't been renovated in 25 years....looks terrible. A mural of MJ would brighten the place up, but still as of a few days ago, theres nothing there.

wowow... be careful!!! If the place needs some renovation, I see some guys asking for the Estate to pay for that if any thing about MJ is ever placed there -_-

to be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if they do that. the idea is trying to get easy money from MJ one way or the other

LOL I think it's been basically the same since the 70's ...glum, dim and depressing. It's the NYC subway afterall. It's what gave the BAD video its grit. Also, the mural is supposed to be placed on a wall outside of the subway.

LoL. I like that the trash can hasn't even moved in 28 years. (Although, I guess, why would it?...haha.)

Man, I so wish there was a full "making of bad" video. I would love to see Michael (as Michael) walking down into the subway and waiting for the train and hopping on and riding. Man, that'd be so much fun to see. And I'm genuinely curious about how the video was made. Like, did they close down that station for a day or what? and what about the train? Did they stop it running and have it at their disposal? Haha. So many questions.

LOL about the trash can!

Yes, I'm surprised there wasn't a "making of" for the Bad video. I would love to see that too.

I'm loving this idea! :D It's just wonderful news that its been given the green light!!

This just came to mind a few days ago and was wondering if anything has been done further..
Have anyone heard anymore about this?

I think I read somewhere that the reason they chose that subway station was because a portion of it was closed off, and they were able to use that unused part for that reason. In fact there are a bunch of unused sections of track and stations underground currently!

However, not sure about the train portion of the film. Love that part w/ sexy young MJ in the hoodie! Obviously lots of films shoot in subway cars but I'm not exactly sure how they do it, like if the car is actually in motion or just supposed to look that way.

I've been wondering about this too recently. I have not heard anything.

I passed by the outside of that subway station (where the mural apparently will be placed) a few weeks ago and it seems it's still under some construction.

Brooklyn, Harlem and all these places have been showing Michael major love since his passing, it will be a good reason for me to go back there NY.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I guess it's under construction till they d the mural.. I can't wait to see it. :D

YES!!! I live in Brooklyn. Can't wait to see this!

I wonder who's financing this? I know it's not the MTA because their broke as heck and are always raising fares. I'm looking forward to this :)

I too was born and raised here in Brooklyn and when I was younger I use to get off at that station to go shopping. The A,C,G trains go to Hoyt and Schemerhorn.Downtown Brooklyn along Fulton Street and it's surrounding areas was the hub of all Brooklynites in existance back in the day and it still is.. Now to know that something like this is happening,is a true tribute to a wonderful man who graced my borough with his extrodinary talent. I'll be there to see this wonderful tribute. Now Lets ask for a Plaque at Coney Island where he filmed the WIZ and at The Brooklyn Museum where he did his Photoshoot.

Me too. In the 70's when was a kid my mom used to take me and my younger sister back-to-school shopping there only we would take the L train from Williamsburg, transfer for the G at Lorimer St. and get off at Hoyt/Schemerhorn to go to Mays, Korvettes, McCrory's, A&S and other stores around Fulton St. In the 80's I attended St. Francis college in downtown Brooklyn and on my breaks between classes I would often (instead of studying...heh!) stroll or shop around the Fulton St and Hoyt/Schemerhorn area. I often wonder if I was in the area at the same time "Bad" was being filmed.

I can't wait for the plaque to be placed. Michael and that video (and The Wiz) added a touch of magic to an otherwise dim, inner city transit hub.

So many wonderful things have happened for Michael since his passing... always makes me feel a little sad that these things didn't happen before!! Great project though... I wonder how much a mural of this type would cost?
