This is "Spice Of Life" if you're interested. It sounds most similar to "Baby Be Mine" if I had to choose a track.

* I have no clue what's up with the multiple vids. Must be a board issue

i see you relinquished from rock with you, cus that manhattan transfer song sounds nothing like that. but, yes, to me, it does sound like baby be mine..

but i feel the reason why we are having these discussions is because of the landmark success of michael, and the need to make comparisons after the fact. and that's why i can never see MJ as a non participating songwriter on anything he sings, because he has made such an enourmous impact, successfully. and the styling of a song he is involved with goes farrr beyond mere styling. it's hard for me to explain it any further. this is just the way i feel. in fact, that aura on off the wall makes me love baby be mine, which makes me go back to the manhattan transfer song and appreciate it more... that is the MJ impact, in a nutshell, to me. also...baby be mine has elements in it that will make me listen to it much more, long after i stop listening to the manhattan transfer song. for me, that's the way it is.

Well, I can hear distinct Rod Temperton trademarks, like the heavy drum beat the song starts off with (same as Rock With You) and other little things to where you can definitely tell it's the same writer.

But yes, it's definitely more in line with Baby Be Mine.

I understand what you're saying about MJ: his co-production and vocals put him in another league for you, and that's understandable. I just think the authors of the songs deserve an equal amount of credit when they have half of a hand in the making of a song. I'm sure MJ would tell you the exact same thing himself.

where i am coming from is i just don't see him as a non cowriter, ever, because what he adds to the song is so much more than what i have been used to when somebody interprets a song written by somebody else.
in that case then we were just caught up in semantics regarding this matter as i happen to agree with you there. although i wouldn't have phrased it as you did, but Michael is a true vocalist in every sense of the word - his talent to sing somebody else's personal song, embody it and channel it through the way he does is also awesome to me - like Superstition says, it's a testament to his respect for their creation. as for adding to the writing, i'd say it's more a matter of superior singing skills. but that's just wordplay since we're on about the same thing.
