I know this sounds horrible! But Sony is really screwing us over here. I cant believe they would release a song that was already released by another group. If you dont know what im talking about check this out.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCV1h40oS0o The song is beautiful and Mike sounds amazing. But if he wanted it out he would have recorded new vocals for it and fixed it up. He deserves much more than this. If you want to buy the cd just to support his estate-- and i know thats why many of us want to buy it-- then buy something else to make up for it, like one of his older cd's if yours are worn out. Or go watch the movie a couple times. But this doesnt feel right to me.. and I was looking so forward to it too!! :(... this saddens me!!!!!!!!

They won't get in any kind of trouble for releasing it, what are you talking about?

Didn't Michael said he never wanted to record and release a song if it has been done by someone else before. Read somewhere that when he recorded Gone too soon, he asked if it has been recorded by others before to make sure he would be the only one...

*don't count Come together or a place with no name on that*

Oy,

Imma quote myself from another thread about TII and the version by Safire.

Why would anyone be upset? He wrote the song in the early 80's which is probably why only his name is credited in the copyrights. Looks like in 1991 Paul Anka came aboard and helped finish it lyrically which then gave Mr. Anka writing credit. The finished song then went to Safire. Michael didn't technically write it FOR her. It was a song he already created which was LATER finished with someone else and given to her. Of course, Safire prolly doesn't know the history of the song she received...meaning it went back further than her. And perhaps no one should tell her. And she did a really good job with it, imo. However, I happen to prefer Michael's version...even unfinished. Of course, I'm prolly biased but I genuinely love hearing Michael's voice and the smoothness of this version. So no, not upset at all. :) Refreshed actually...as it's always refreshing to hear music from Michael I haven't heard before...old, new, new NEW, demo, whatever.

Edit: I'm not sure why ppl are saying Sony TOOK a song becuz there's no way they could have taken that song unless Michael had already signed clearances for them to HAVE it. I honestly believe this was something he was in the process of working on before he passed away and just didn't get the chance to finish it as he planned. Of course, that's speculation but remember copyrights. Michael wrote the song and none of his demos and songs could have been released by Sony without getting his signature (or currently, the Estate's approval). My guess would have to be that he signed on the dotted line before June 25th. Unfortunately, he may not have had the opportunity to do with the song what he planned. Looks like "maybe" Sony tried to finish it in his absence.

Edit: I'm not sure about the Gone Too Soon thing, but it would make sense if he didn't want it to be a song someone else had done as he was looking for something special to dedicate to Ryan White.

He did butterflies and that was recorded by someone else.

this is a lesson in Michaelology. it's like night and day. if i never heard who wrote this song, and i only heard the Safire version, i would have NEVER given it a full listen. her version SUCKS!!! it doesn't even matter that MJ wrote it, when she sings it, and they produce it.

But MJ's version is the daylight. His version is MASTERFUL! His version I WILL BUY. His version, i have on repeat.

i don't like how they only have it as a double disc with only 4 frigging tracks on the 2nd disc....womp womp

as to butterflies, i thought that floetry girl wrote the song FOR him, i didn't realize they had recorded it before themselves...interesting

no, i'm not buying it for the esate. why the hell should people support the estate? the estate have enough money for the next 100 years! ^^
i'm buying it cause i like the music. nothing else. btw, first i will download the 2cd-set and later I'm buying it for 5 euros (1 euro for each track). not more. sony can do that with other people. not with me. all the best ofs they did the last 8 years, are enough. i will not pay any cent in the future for best of's or songs i allready have on 100 different cds.

This Is It was written and recorded in 1980 for either Triumph or possibly another project but didn't get released. Michael tried it out for Dangerous aroun 1989 or 1990 but then gave it to Safire
Then he decided to take his version out and give one more try when the o2 shows were getting set up. I'm buying the Cd cus I wanna.
my 2 cents peace & carry on :)

WHAT??? Butterflies isn't an original song, damned... sorry, tought it was... that sucks actually..

it is an orginial,it was a buy out track. he paid to have the song, and the owners of the song recorded their own version aswell

I don't want to buy the album or pay to watch the film. pain, love, devotion.... but on the other hand, wouldn't we want him to brake another record, to show the world how much he is loved. and despite all the sony evil to express our love to the oblivious? i don't know. im confused.

Come Together, Rockin Robin, Butterflies, Aint No Sunshine, Smile, My Girl, Who's Loving You, Stand!..all by other artists.

to buy or not to buy????

buy - help elevate michaels greatness and make it show in sales numbers, to those who who doubt it.

to not buy - help in showing no support towards sony records and their evil ways.

DAMNIT WHAT DO I DO

I Dont want to pay Sony anything, but I want Michael to have another Number 1 all over the world. That's why I will be buying.

I'm buying it because the Estate money will go to the children when they reach legal age, therefore I will give my money to them.
Jeez.
We all know Sony is full of assholes but the Estate isn't. It's run by Katherine for heaven's sake.

Those children already have more money than we'll ever have.

No, I won't buy the album. I love MJ, but that's what Sony is counting on. People to buy anything that has the name Michael Jackson written on it. And it will continue as long as we keep buying it, and I'm not going to support that. When they'll release something worth buying, I will buy it.

i too can't make up my mind...ughhhhhh:(

- Whether we buy the album or not, his children will still be billionaires by the time they're 18.

- Whether we buy the album or not, somehow Sony will still exsist

- Whether we buy the album or not, Michael's 'greatness' and 'reign' will still exsist and we don't need any more of those 'yet another record broken' to prove our love for him, damn it!

I get the feeling we are damm if we do or damm if we dont, seriously as i fan i want to buy michael cds and everything but emotional for me the whole thing sucks i just feel compelety numb and confussed by everything, wat ever michael does i will always love no matter wat,but i am SICK of ppl treating MICHAEL like a damm MONEY machine...... sorry guys i am totaly confussed about it all :boohoo: xoxo

Don't think I'll buy it, I really want the new song, but I see no reason to buy one more MJ compilation with songs I already have a lot of times....

But I really think (based on the two versions of the 43 second leak I heard yesterday - one average quality and one excellent quality) that Sony might have only put the 'tinny' version of the song up for streaming on MichaelJackson.com and be keeping the excellent quality one for the CD. So what are we supposed to do then?

I felt the same before.. BUT I think this was Michael's plan, it would have happened if he was still alive. Remember.. they said there would be a new single and an album in October.. and there is.

mmm I'm not sure. MJ was recording before he passed and judging from what the guy said who MJ approached to work on the classical album MJ said he was recording a new pop album. Plus we know he was collabing with all those people (Akon, William etc) and William said he has some complete songs. Even R Jerkins has said he has some songs from Vince that were not released and he's working with 'people' to organise this. I think if MJ was still here and was releasing and album in Oct it would have been new songs. Some people have indicated that Sony probably don't have the rights to the newer recordings that MJ has done and I think this might be true.

I still don't know what I'm supposed to do.
If we don't buy it the media has another point to make that the fans aren't loyal and stuff they don't see it as boycotting Sony that's for sure.
I really love for Michael to be in the news again for selling another high number of albums so that would make me buy it.

MJ has already been in the news for selling a high number of albums since he passed - so I don't think you need to feel bad if you don't buy it.

That's what I was thinking! Exactly, that Sony probably just does their own things and doesn't have rights to other, newer recordings. I mean, it would make sense....for this old demo-ish song now coming out. They got power enough to get away with that.
