Final 2009 albums sales update

Thank you smooth_criminal05! You are always so on top of the statistics!

My gawd! Almost 25 million albums sold in SIX MONTHS!!!!

How I wish the media would print articles about this because this is really a phenomenon. Also, it's not just one album, it's an artist's whole catalog that's being demanded all over the world.

Only Michael.

I was sure my angle , would be reach to this great achievements ...
thank you michael ... you are always in my heart .

good for you Michael!I hope you can see that from where you are and smile a litlle:)

... found on another forum, is that correct?

Michael is #1 biggest selling act of decade with 82 million copies of albums sold. And, the decade is not actually ending now, it has full 2010th year to go.

Also: no other artist/group ever topped worldwide sales as #1 during more than one decade. Michael is #1 for three decades (in row).

Even if you will take out the second decade, 1990s -- when Michael sold about 95 million albums, which is about the same as Garth Brooks, Celine Dione and Mariah Carey so it is difficult to state who exactly of them was the best selling act in that decade -- then still Jackson has at least two #1 decades.

Also, it should be noted that recording labels for major acts and the acts themselves only care about wholesale, it the news basically says that there was 30 + 1.5 million of sales this year for Michael.

^ those figures are global album sales and they seem mostly correct. Based on my own numbers, Jackson sold just over 80 million albums this past decade. It can be broken down like this:

Invincible: 10 million
Number Ones: 10.5 million
Essential: 4 million
King Of Pop: 2.5 million
HIStory Greatest Hits: 2 million
HIStory: 2 million
This Is It: 3.5 million
Thriller: 14 million
Bad: 6.5 million
Dangerous: 4.5 million
Off The Wall: 5 million
Jackson 5 Material: 6 million
Motown Albums: 4.2 million
Other: 6 million

Total= 80.7 million

But once we enter 2010, it's officially a new decade. The same as when we went from 1999 to 2000, that's the first year of the new decade (2000-2009), (2010-2019), etc.

So, Michael Jackson could be the best selling (male) artist of the first decade of the 21st century? (including singles)

He sold 80 million in this decade? That's amazing. I wish these kinds of things get talked about when people talk about Michael.

WOW!!!!!!!!

I didn't realize that MJ sold that much this decade. That is insane.

The last time I checked Emminem was the top selling artist of the decade and he sold 80 million records or albums. I forgot.

But where would this place MJ? Because The Beatles are up there as well I believe.

Amazing, so MJ is really the best selling artist of this decade? And is it true that MJ is also the best selling artist of the last 2 decades? Could you please give me selling figures of 1980s and 1990s? I ever thought he only topped in 1980s.

I didn't realize either! All I can say is. . .

:wild::wild::wild::wild::wild:

The media never report this... because it proves what they have been working so hard against, that Michael Jackson is the most loved, popular, biggest celebrity/artist/entertainer in history!

So who cares what the media do or don't report, the numbers speak for themselves and speaks volumes. The world loves Michael and his legacy will live on forever. The media won't.

Well I know that he sold 110 million in the 80's, 123 million in the 90's. And If these numbers are correct, 80 million ALBUMS only this decade. I wonder how many singles?

It could possibly bring MJ over the 100 million mark for the decade.

And if thats true, I think he is the only artist ever to sell over 100 million in 3 consecutive decades.

This is why Michael Jackson is the King of POP!

He has been selling millions since he was 10 years old in the 70's till the end of the millenia in his 50's!

Plus, he has the talents and the hits to back it up!

GO MIKE! :) Your music will forever be loved and continue to sell!

Vince has sold 900.000 copies this year alone, so surely it most have sold more than 10 million copies since it's release.

I heard 13-15 million coipies of Vince sold WorldWide since it's release...

Well, and what can we do?

Nothing.

Will this be ever published? Evidently NO.

BUT we can update and change WIKIPEDIA pages with these numbers and records!
Most media report their articles based on WIKI so... lets change that!

Lets post emails to the media (Billboard, Rolling Stones, NME.... AP, AsP...)

Thank you smooth criminal for the info! :clapping:
Absolutely amazing
It is a shame that we hear about Eminem being the artist of the decade or Swift as artist of 2009 and not enough emphasis on Michael's numbers. It would be nice for the world know the truth, that he IS NOT the "has been" the media makes him out to be, known only for Thriller
that he is still a global icon with the numbers to back him up

^ But its also because of media agenda!

if Sony released something like an official list of their best sellers making Michael the best seller of SonyMusic lets say... with the 80 mil. albums... news reports have to inform about that.

Billboard should have the right numbers, or RIAA... but... they consciously dont want to present that... if its clear that Michael sold at least 50 mil. albums this decade...

But Billboards chart of the artists of decade includes only chart performances and week on the album chart for those artists, not album sales...

They strutted, they rocked and they grooved on the charts all decade; these are the 20 music stars with the best performance on the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Hot 100 over the last ten years
