Here is what I was sent from Sony/BMG today:
HELP MICHAEL REACH #1!
We're thrilled that it looks like "Thriller 25" is very close to being the #1 album in the country next week. We need your help to make sure it happens. If you haven't already bought this album, be sure to do so before Sunday. If you've already bought your copy, now would be a great time to buy one for a friend or loved one. You can buy it at all major music stores. If you can't find it in your area, you can buy it directly from Amazon or digitally via iTunes (be sure to get either of the Thriller 25 products rather than the original). We're counting on the strength of you Michael Jackson fanatics to make this a historic week for Thriller -- tell all your friends!

If it doesn't go to no 1 I am going to blame sony. They should have stocked enough in the shops, Too many people were leaving without it.

I agree that way more people wanted the CD than people who actually got it. That really will be frustrating if he doesn't get #1 because of that, but I'm optimistic until I see the results.

.. And no, I'm not buying another copy just to boost somebody's album sales lol.

Do they mean Sunday as in Tomorrow?:huh: If so then it explains why they want peeps to buy now coz maybe there isn't enough time for them to ship more out before Sunday. Also I think maybe Jack Johnson's album and T25 are very close sales wise. I would have for T25 to get to no 2 and miss the top spot coz of a small margin.

I have school and dreams and ambitions and stuff lol. I listen to music for me, even though I wanna see MJ succeed. Not that I have anything against people who do buy copies for no particular reason other than boosting record sales. It's just funny. Plus, I'm sure the super enthused multiple buyers will probably play a role in the end results, so more power and keep on crazying. And I mean that in an affectionate way.

Now let's cross our fingers for a #1 first week Billboard chart.

I don't cry easily and I haven't cried in a long while but if Mj makes Number 1 I am going to burst into tears, of joy of course. I will be happy if he is in the top 10 though.

Thanks Rasta for posting this, i regret that i preordered from Amazon since im waiting for the shipments but i knew they would be included in the final tally. I might cop a copy at WalMart tomorrow if they still have them.

yeah, i'm in college, and i've got dreams and ambitions and crazy little stuff like that too. I actually like more that one of my MJ stuff just in case something happens to it, and then it won't be for sale anymore :(

TEAM MJ! (hmmm...i wish we had "TEAM MJ" shirts for the trial!!!!!!!!!!)

I have the Zombie edition, and plan on buying the classic edition tomorrow. I still have to order the deluxe edition online, too. From what I gather, a lot of places have sold out already.

I don't think many expected it to reach the top 10 on the charts, let alone the top 3!

Can anyone confirm that Amazon sales will count towards Billboard charts etc.?

I am not sure.. but for some reason I think it does.. because that Sony email encouraged to buy it from Amazon if u can't find a store..

I can see why some people dont want to buy multiple copies of Thriller 25... some people can just not afford that and thats understandable. Others just dont see the point in owning 5 copies of the same album...

Personally I am going out tomorrow and buying about 5 copies, keeping one for myself and giving the 4 extras to people who I know like MJ but wouldn't think of actually going out and buying a cd. (people who download illegally lol) I want to see MJ do good, that man deserves it, because if MJ sees this re-release charting so high in the USA then he will be motivated to keep the momentum going with new material!

I was just kidding lol. I do wish I had an extra copy sometimes just to let sit because I get finicky every time I take the CD or DVD out of the booklet. The space is way too damn small and easily scratchable. I'm going to be OCDing every time I take it out, and I don't even have OCD.

About preordering and chart sales

I swiped this from previous discussion on similar topics from another board. There is some debate about what counts for first week sales and what doesn't. I know there is some debate about Amazon and B&N but understand, they do not convert pre-orders into sales until the album is actually available on the release date. What do not count are Street Date Violations which is when a retailer makes available an album for sale prior to the official release date (this happens quite often). Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble both report to Nielsen SoundScan, which is the company that tallies up cd sales and reports them to Billboard. You can buy or preorder from either place.

My sister and my mom went to our local HMV store tonight and asked where Thriller 25 was and they said they are completely sold out! Apparently the guy said all record stores in the city of Barrie are sold out...he said we totally underestimated how popular this CD was going to be. Apparently the Barrie HMV ordered in 25 copies of Thriller 25 and they were sold out within the first day, then they ordered another 100 copies and they were sold out by yesterday....now they are waiting on another shipment. So my mom and sister had to leave...and look someplace else, but every place was sold out! Apparently shipments are backordered and won't be in until next week!!

Just my luck...grr , im going out tomorrow and searching other places.

Nah they do count. The sales of all 3 physical versions will be combined, added to presales, added to the sales of all the available digital versions and counted as ONE whole sale number. Coz MJ has at least two versions on itunes charts, amazon charts, pre-order sales and in stores, all over the world, this will help alot with sales (obviously)

How many versions of T25 can one buy?:unsure: And can one buy online or in stores? Thanks;) Will be buying mine tomorrow. Wow this is exciting news I'm sure Michael and his team are excited about hearing this.

I don't really see how anyone can blame Sony if the album doesn't go to #1 because they've done their part. I mean as far as promotion goes, they've done a great job actually. The problem here, like a lot of people have stated before, is that no one was expecting it to sell as well as it has and that's why I think it's sold out in many stores because they didn't order enough copies, so I can't blame Sony. It's a huge shock that it's selling so well. Very unexpected.
