TV ALERT: BET Honors; Friday, Feb 22; 8/7 PM central time

The more Mike performs this old stuff, the more people are gonna associate him with it. He needs to release something new and add to his already amazing legacy. He needs to start the final run of his career with new stuff.

Again this "He needs to do this and do that" line. You know what he needs to do? Whatever he pleases regarding his music, and whatever is the right thing for him; and the right thing he does, by approaching this baby-steps technique, which may be grilling to many for some reason. This is getting tiring already, urging him to release new material when he already works on it. He already has an amazing legacy, so I'm sure he is not desperate to prove anything really, otherwise he'd be all over the place, overexposing himself; he is all about wanting to do music, first of all, he is taking a lot of time for it, he works for it, not plays around, he is being extra-picky and cautious because he is a perfectionist, and because he knows what kind of a symbolic slammer on behalf of the media, the critics or the fandom world expects him should he do things wrong or in a s****y way. Before 2005, people were asking themselves if he was going to survive, not to mention work on new music, and now he is back in the studio every day, and some poeple act like he is in there doing nothing and don't really know how to appreciate this prelude of Thriller 25's and Thrillicious ads and the like. Either you accept patience, or sink in it to your disadvantage. It is not you, afterall, the ones with the world on their shoulders and in the center of a rabid attention.

I think Michael was in talks with the Grammies and BET, they would do a tribute which would boost the sales of Thriller 25 and he would appear which would boost their ratings. I think when Michael found out that Thriller would not chart on the Billboard thing he decided not to add any more (or that kind) of promotion to it, and in turn the Grammies and BET decided not to do the tribute. Not a big deal. Michael can appear / perform at a later date to boost the sales of his new album.

U know i tried to quote a sentence of this , but i couldn't cuz it's all true. Took the words right out of my mouth.

Thats what he NEEDS to do.

Maybe im an optimist but things couldnt be going BETTER for Michael. theres really not any controversy (except the ones fans make lol) and that in itself is a miracle. Before the trial everything BUT his music was in the news...one of the top selling albums out now is HIS....and a few years ago we were uncertain that that was even POSSIBLE...everyone's talking about his MUSIC...his SONG is advertising one of PEPSI's products!!!! Who would've thought??? MJ is working on a new album, theres a lot of bubbling hype about it under the surface....

Why are we complaining again??

I've watched Ne-Yo's performance. Thanks Damien.:)
He didn,t floor me but it was good.
At least he didnt destroy one of my all time favorite Michael songs.
Good job!
The whole show overall was good. And informative.

MJ is not gonna leave off his career with a damaging trial and sabotaged invincible. Heeelll no. Mike aint goin out like that. LOL

Exactly! He sure isn't. Michael is gonna end his legacy the way he wants to and not the way the media and history changers want to.

Amen! If you would have listend to the media critics after the verdict, you would have thought there was no way in the world that Michael could make a viable comeback in the US. But since I have been sitting here, I have seen that Sobe Life Water commercial 3 times. And I see T25 at the top of the charts worldwide! The world has spoken. Michael....we still love you!

yeah, I haven't heard much negative stuff about Mike these days except for this one really ridiculous comment i just saw advertising "the Soup" on E! which btw was preceded by the Superbowl commercial
they play the hell out of that Sobe commercia though. I've seen it like 10 times on E! just today. and I see it played A LOT on VH1 and MTV on a daily basis. It's the only Superbowl commercial i've seen reaired on television actually.

JTs commercial was not voted the most favorite. The SOBE commercial actually came in third place.

And I have seen this commercial all day on E network.

Yeah they mentioned thriller 25 but what did you expect? It's a comedy show ofcourse shows on E! like 'The Soup'(which I happen to like and have been recording for more than year and even last night) and 'Chelsea Lately'(can't stand chelsea) are gonna focus on the negative cus entertainment shows on the other hand have more of a responsibility and I remember when E! News talked about thriller 25 they were surprisingly positive from start to finish which is rare coming from that network given their long history of putting him down and giving props to janet. But look on the bright side even if they are negative they are doing MJ a favor by just mentioning that it's out in stores.

^ thanks for sharing! ne-yo did a great job! and miss Alicia was so into it:wub: I don't blame her.

Listened to the Ne-Yo rendition of LIML......

Good attempt by Ne-Yo, but as someone said earlier, it would've been amazing to hear MJ sing this song live!

mm i think Ne Yo is a good singer, thats for sure. I'd love to see a NeYo/MJ duet.

neyo was okay.....but NOBODY can sing that song mike Michael!!!! WHOO!!!!

BET had every right to scrap the performance from the tv airing because Michael, unlike the other honorees....and for whatever reason.....DID NOT SHOW UP! It would not have been fair to the other honorees for Michael to be honored absent his body while the others gave the common courtesy to the BET show by showing up. And I think Michael knows this. He is not stupid. I doubt very seriously if Michael would have wanted Debra Lee and BET to make some sort of exception for him in this manner.

Face it, when these award shows join up with these celebrities, BOTH PARTIES get a benefit. The award show gets the ratings and the celebrity gets the free exposure/promo. That is the way it is. The only time I ever see a star get an award without being present is when the star is somewheres performing or on tour and the Grammies gives them an award. This is understandable. But if you are gonna be given a special award or honored in some special way, then you had better be there or be dead in your grave. It would be like Tina Turner not showing up for the Kennedy Center Honors and she is still alive. I have yet to see some honored by the Kennedys, the NAACP, the Stellar or the BET awards with something special and they don't show up. There is usually a good reason if they are given a regular award for their current music and that is usually because they are out on tour.

Truth of the matter is, these people....Alicia Keys, Maxine Waters and the rest knew a long time ago that they were receiving this honor so they had the time to plan for it. So did Michael. And I don't think that Michael's was the same as theirs because Alicia got the entertainer award. I think that Michael's honor was a "special" honor for Thriller's success. Like the Grammies gives that special award they have to a legend or something like that. Michael was the special honoree of the night. But he did not show. And so BET had to cut it out. But Ne-Yo was more than happy to still perform his LIML rendition. I also think that the original T25 tribute included more people than Ne-Yo but they cut after finding out that Michael would not attend.

I agree 100%. Come on people, quit claiming a conspiracy every time something like this happens. The fact is that BET would've loved for MJ to appear but he decided against it for reasons that we don't know. It's only fair...all the other honorees showed up so I agree w/BET's decision not to air the tribute.

Agreed. BET has been good to Michael over the years actually and very supportive (i.e. removing Eminem's "Without Me" from their schedule after MJ complained about it depicting him in a negative light). Not everything is a conspiracy. If Michael couldn't show up for whatever reason, then BET had the right not to air the tribute.

Actually it was 'Just Lose It' not 'Without Me'.

Well whatever the name of the song is, All I know is that BET removed or played an alternate version of the video after Michael complained.

Gotta agree with that. It was a good effort tho. I enjoyed it. :)

Thanks to all for the links and vid. :flowers: I'm glad BET put Ne-yo's performance up on their site even tho it was cut from the show. Coolies.

I missed the beginning of the program but the tribute to Alicia Keys by Stevie Wonder was the best, followed by Gladys Knight's tribute to Maxine Waters. And who knew Cornell West was a party animal? He was wayyyy excited during parts I saw. Loved it!

You think his was good? (well I do to) But I have to say it cannot top the day I heard Brian Mcknight sing it@ MJ's 45th birday party..

I know there's a video of it somewhere on youtube, but it's from a home camera so it does not sound as great. While being there it sounded MUCH better.

But u know the craziest part, because Mike was there, I often forget I saw Mcknight sing infront of me.. lol! He was just another 'act' to me that night, but when I think back, and look back on my video, it's a great moment.
