Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

From a musical point of view and forgetting that this is a charity effort, you cant beat the original, certainly not Michaels vocals on WATW, they are amazing.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

I agree! WATW, is not the same without Michael. If they release it, then his vocals should be included, he wrote it after all, and this was only possible because he was the big draw. or If they are so concerned why not have somebody record something else, or better yet release What More can I give- if they want to use Michael to help raise funds.

These ppl are using Michael to enhance their images. They wouldn't help with Katrina when Michael wanted to do something because they didn't want to be associated with him after the trial, now they are so willing to do something that Michael was involved in. They don't genuinely care as evidenced with the Katrina project.

I posted this in another site, but this only shows what a huge hole Michael left when it comes to charity work, and how genuinely giving he was!

And no I do not like Quincy Jones - he seems to always take credit for this song, when in truth Michael wrote this song, with Ritchie only contributing a few lyrics. The way he slammed Michael, I just don't care for him at all!

Before Christmas a re-make of WATW was made in my country (Hungary) with Hungarian artists. But they left Michael's part in it which I thought was a nice gesture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R54t2KNNwo

I think this should be done now as well!

And I agree about Quincy. I just hope Lionel won't let him take all the credit for a song he didn't write and won't let people forget the fact the song was mainly written by Michael!

I was pissed the other day when people on Friedman's blog attacked some fans who said MJ's voice should be in the song, and the haters were like "Who cares MJ? Should we also resurrect Elvis and Ray Charles's voices then to be in it?" How ignorant! MJ had a "little" more to do with this song existing than Elvis and Ray Charles.....

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

MJ wrote it almost entirely, its a shame that Lionel is named as a co-writer.

The thing about that is you could change or write just one or two words, or a chord, in a song and be credited as a co-writer. You could write the smallest portion and be credited.

I just hope they include Michael's vocals in some way or another or I probably won't support the single...

From a snippet I heard in a short interview with Ryan Seacrest, Lionel seemed to be completely yanking Michael Jackson's name out equation. To think that Michael wrote most of the song... not a whimper of MJ's name. And this was how they congregate, exactly how it was played out 25 years ago.
You know what , my respect for Lionel had just plummet a few notches.....

Let's hope they will credit him. I wouldn't like to see Quincy and Lionel take full credit for the song, when it was mainly Michael's work.

And you know I find it very hypocritical from Quincy to use this song now after he did nothing but slagging off Michael in the past couple of months. Why doesn't he use a Frank Sinatra song for this project since he claimed he was a so much greater talent than Michael. Oh, I forgot Frank Sinatra didn't even write songs.....

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Blah Blah Blah. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's just that simple. I never get the point of all the constant complaining about every little thing that goes on here.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

My problem isnt only about Michael's vocals being taked away, it's just what the song was all about, what the artists went through and what the purpose was.

I love Quincy Jones, but he's making the wrong choice.

I understand what they want to do for Haiti....but they just need to record a new song for the victims of Haiti instead of recycling an old song, they deserve a song with hardwork and dedication.

There are mandatory rules for this song such as chemistry, talent, etc etc which is why you can't just throw a bunch of big name artists together..look at the mess that was "What's Going On" when it got remade, it was terrible.

No half assing was allowed in recording this song, why????
because they were trying to get a message across!!! All of the artists involved felt the same exact way, it won't happen this time around.

Don't get me wrong I always imagined other artists performing it onstage....but that's the thing...ONSTAGE!!!

Do the right thing for these people and record a new song.

Then why you come back????? :mello: you seem annoyed... dont come back and your big problem is solved :wild: BYE

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

It would be pretty crappy if they took out MJ's vocals considering he wrote about 90% of the song.

Another reason why it would be crappy: They would be taking the single greatest singing voice of all time out of a song written by said singer.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Will Lionel invite them to participate in the 'WATW 25' recording sessions this week?

i will be very upset and disappointed if michael's vocals are not included in this re-make.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

I don't see the big deal. Its for a good cause and it's a tribute in its own right.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

So is this tribute happening? Wasn't it supposed to be recorded after the Grammys? Or was it rescheduled?

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Ahh, I hope at least Michael gets the first chorus for himself like in the original. Also I so wish they would release I have this dream as a charity single!

I read an article about this possibility, but its probably just speculation.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

I found this article talking about how Prince and Paris want to be apart of the WATW remake.

http://www.popeater.com/2010/01/31/.../01/31/michael-jackson-kids-we-are-the-world/

Michael Jackson's Kids Will Record 'We Are the World'

Following their appearance at the Grammy Awards, sources tell me Michael Jackson's two oldest children -- Prince Michael and Paris -- want to be included in Monday's re-recording of 'We Are The World,' the proceeds of which will benefit Haiti. "Prince Michael and Paris know that helping others was as important to their daddy as music. That is why they really want to be part of the re-recording of this extraordinary song," a friend of Michael's tells me.

It's still unclear if their voices will be blended in with the chorus of celebrities or if they will make get to sing a solo line or two I, for one, can't think of any singer alive that would be more powerful than Prince Michael or little Paris singing the lyrics their daddy wrote 25 years ago.

Prince Jackson took to the stage Sunday night at the Grammys and spoke in public for the first time, stunning the audience with an emotional speech about his late father. In accepting Michael's posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award, the reclusive 12 year-old choked up while thanking fans for their support since his dad's death. "Our father loved you so much because you were always there for him," he said in a soft-spoken voice. He also touted the goodness of his beloved dad: "Through all his songs, his message was simple: Love."

The brief speech quickly became the most sincere and poignant moment of the evening, with every member of the audience standing and listening in awe as the shy Prince spoke.

Paris also spoke but very briefly, saying, "We love you daddy." She of course made a touching speech at Michael's memorial service, which was held under the very same roof as the Grammys, Staples Center.

This site may or may not be a very reliable source but I'm not sure since I've never of it. That would be really special though if the kids sang on it. Only if they wanted to of course. This could just be a rumor though...

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

If this is true and they really want to be a part of this to honor their dad and help Haiti as he would have, then I'm okay with them participating, so long as they sing in a group with everyone else. Anything more would bring unnecessary focus on them and invite judgment and ridicule.

Once again, I'm not their mom, I know. =P Just my :2cents:
