Remember a day and a week later when MJ died..you saw people and kids wearing MJ shirts and kids watching MJ videos on youtube in public place..where did they go too? I dont see many people wearing MJ shirts unless they are real fans. I use to see kids as young as 10 wearing shirts lol and people looking at MJ videos at public place such as cyber cafes lol.

It is still "cool". But the world has already proven it's love to MJ, they don't need to anymore.

I remember a lot of fans (including myself) were saying that time will tell who are Michaels real fans... maybe the time has come... hopefully :)

Interesting topic...cause right now I have some MJ clothes that I LOVE but sometimes I feel awkward wearing it in public because it's the "cool" thing to do. Like, I've always liked to be unique and I don't want to be labeled a brainless trend follower who is only representing Michael cause it's the "in" thing to do right now...as weird as that may sound. I hope that Michael is always loved by many here, but at the same time I look forward to the trend dying down.

I wear my MJ t-shirt proudly, with my badges in centre position on my bag. The last time I saw a lot of people wearing MJ t-shirts were at my cinema on 28th Oct which was great to see. And a lot of people were wearing them at the o2 the following Sat but you have a point. Its no longer the 'cool' thing to be wearing now.

I'm so glad you posted this! I feel exactly the same sometimes. I have quite a few MJ t-shirts, which I've proudly worn not just after, but before Michael passed away. I know I shouldn't care what other people think, but sometimes I worry that people may think I'm only wearing them because it's the "cool" thing to do,and that people who see me wearing them won't realise that I have worn them long before what happened.

Lol im the same way. I cant even buy some Mj similar clothing nowadays(I saw the CUTEST military jacket in Ann Taylor Loft the other day :wild:) just for the simple fact that i know people are going to look at me think 'oh she's just another young girl who's dressing like MJ because its cool to now, what does she know about him'. I know it sounds weird but i used to love getting those weird looks from people whenever i would wear my MJ shirts(especially during the trial) now i can't even have that satisfaction.

Hahaha...I know what you mean. I kinda look forward to the day when I'm wearing MJ and someone says "that was so last year...why are you wearing that?" then I can be like "cause I love him, bitch!" :D

Haha, so true!

Lol I know its such a great feeling :dancin:

I feel exactly the same! I bought a cool military style jacket from H&M but I don't wear it much because it's so "trendy" now -- I didn't even realize it was becoming trendy, either; I just saw it, loved it and bought it, and now I see them everywhere. :-/

Amy, "cause I love him, bitch" is perfect!

Yeah exactly.. that's why I used to love wearing my MJ t-shirts before, cause I never used to see anyone else with them, and it felt so good to "stand out from the crowd" if you like. Now, so many people are wearing them, I don't feel like that.

Man I'm sooo tempted to buy a lot of the cute MJ style stuff too...but part of me doesn't even want to get that stuff right now...like just knowing it was all made for the trend...meh.

I don't want to assume I know every person who jumped in after his death in this world, is a "fake" MJ fan. I think many people and kids throughout had an epiphany when Michael left. Many remain loyal and some left it as it was, not really knowing what to do with it all.

This topic reminds me of a recent experience i had. I took a bus ride to Staples (the office store) to purchase shipping equipment. I had on my "This Is It" shirt. Forgetting I had it on and I couldn't figure out why some people gave me a dirty look. Whether they felt "ugh..look, another fake fan just doing the in thing" or "ugh, how can he wear a shirt of that so and so".
Regardless, I could care less what people think when it comes to the clothes i wear or music i listen to. I wear what I want, when I want and if I want. I'm not going to wait for their approval.

But yeah.... just keep in mind, not everyone of those who leaped away is what you think they are. "Fake fans".
Sure, some are just trying to cash in on all the attention. They just do the in thing. But some are struggling with their own lives to be 100% focused on the king of pop and continue on reppin the man all the time. I'm sure Michael gained a lot of respect from many of those who doubted or were sucked in the media hype, though. I've seen a LOT of change in people's hearts.

There are a lot of people in this world who can't afford to take too much time off to spend it on the internet or going out and promoting their love and appreciation to Michael. But I'm sure they know it was a tragic loss. Some are still learning that as we speak.

Don't push them away. Bring them in and educate them gracefully. Ignorance is in us all. If its not about MJ, it will be about something else. And someone else could be calling us all out on it too, somewhere out there. 2 cents.

So true!

I couldn't get any kind of MJ merchandise before he passed away (I became a fan December 2008)...I wanted T-shirts, posters, etc.

I knew they would bring some out when This Is It was coming up, but...:(

I know alot of people who started listening to his music after his death have now become huge fans and in just a few months have almmost become MJ Experts LOL. I always feel awkward buying something now though, I went into HMV the other day to get a new Bad copy (my old one snapped and there's NO way I'm using the orig' lol) but the look I got when I went up to the counter with it! You could tell exactly what they thought. Can't even buy a CD anymore

that was not love, that was hypocrisy
I remember a few months before Michael died I'd see media polls like "Michael Jackson - the most hated man in the world" and no one was outraged by that it was considered normal because he was Michael Jackson. on the news you'd always hear "the self-proclaimed King of Pop" even when he announced his London concerts, they never left him alone...then he dies and they suddenly love him? give me a break I never bought into that, their respect, their tributes meant nothing to me! for me they the media and the brainwashed general public, the pressure that resulted from all that criticism and constant bullying all that played a big part in what lead to his death. they killed him and I hate them! and wearing those stupid clothes is not going to bring Michael back

Same here. When I am wearing my History Tour jacket and my MJ shirts (just because I love them!) I get those looks over here. Probably also because I am not a teen anymore (well, I look younger than I really am but nevertheless I am not 15 anymore). I noticed that in the eyes of lots of people you are only allowed to wear fan clothes when you are very young. For me that is as silly as allowing people over 40 only to wear the color beige ... :bugeyed

Who cares ... :tease:

I remember those fans.... -_-

It was just the 'in' thing to do for a while.... (sigh)

But I'm sure many of them also turned into big fans.

Even though it's the "In" thing to be doing, whenever I walk around with my MJ shirt or bag people just look at me weird. Which I don't really care about hehe, I actually make it known that I'm a fan. When I'm able to blast MJ music on the road, or anywhere I do. I get weird looks but that just makes me turn it up louder :D
