From a career point of view, just showing up will not do it. If he really wants to restart, performing at the Grammy Awards would be mind blowing. Something like Chris Brown starting with a tribute, only to see Michael appear on stage and just kill the audience with a performance only he could do.

If he's not going to perform, just choose another moment and don't appear at all. Just sitting there would show he enjoys things of the past, but not being eager to come back. Performing at the Grammy's would put Michael back on the map in an instant.

Good point. Either way it'll be a big headline. ;)

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

For those that want a Billie Jean performance, PLEASE NOOOOOOO!!! He needs to update his performance and step away from that song when he performs live. Billie Jean has been overworked as much as Thriller has been praised. Michael has a whole catalog of great music and he should switch it up again with something fresh. Why not Sing The Girl Is Mine with Will or step in for his solo with Akon. Then he needs to do it live and and somewhat unrehearsed. He had so much passion and charisma when he randomly stepped in to dance with James Brown at his tribute.

I know Michael is a perfectionist, but I guarantee he practices dance moves on a daily basis and he could easily step on stage an still blow our minds with something made up on the spot rather than showcasing the exact same performance done for the last 25 years.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

You know what I've noticed during the Bash*t interview, if there was anything about MORE MUSIC being talked about, there wasn't any on the Take 2 thing. The only musical thing Mike mentioned WAS "Billie Jean"! And the moonwalk but that was about f*cking it.

Unless Michael somehow locked some footage of him talking about more songs. Other than that, that was the only musical thing discussed...unfortunately.

Even though its off topic........ the Take 2 show was to go against all the negativity that Mike had be portrayed as personally in the 1st show, not musically.

Back on topic....... MJ IMO needs to perform at the Grammys for a chance at a perfect comeback. I hope he definetly does Wanna be startin somethin with Akon if he does perform, and if he performs solo, any of the other 8 songs of Thriller will do as long as he pulls it off.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Anyone please?

It will be live, on CBS, Feburary 10th (two weeks from today) and three hours. :)

My thing is that I think MJ should come. "Thriller" and "OTW" will be inducted (or it already has) in the Grammy Hall of Fame or whatever. His sister Janet might show it, there is like a rumored tribute for MJ. Too many clues that makes me think that MJ might come on the award show. Mike does not have to perform, but if he does, that would be awesome. If he does not, that would be awesome. Just imagine how many people would talk about MJ being at the Grammys. Think about people watching the show and seeing him and calling their relatives or friends on the phone and telling them to change the channel because MJ is on. Imagine the ratings. Just insane.

All of this talk about how the US would "handle" MJ being there is laughable. We all should know that MJ has plenty of haters outside the USA as well. Look, MJ's past issues were unfortunate, but it happened. Michael's vindication solidified his career. Look at R. Kelly, that guy is accused of some horrible stuff, but people want to see him do his thing. There is no clear verdict regarding his mess, but if he were to perform on the Grammys, his performance would be more important than his issues. If MJ were to perform or be at the Grammys, his appearence/performance would be the talk of the town. Yes, you will have the naysayers, but the performance/appearence would overshadow it all. People know greatness and MJ is greatness. Just his appearence gets people excited.

However, if he does not show up to the show at all, I am still going to watch the show.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

I guess we'll have to wait and see if he'll show up. And if he does,The Grammy people should show him respect. I mean I don't want to see a another mess up job like at the World Music awards last year. What an embarrassment to Michael. He has suffered enough and he should be praised and respected as a genius. If you want Michael to never leave this country again, he has to be treated right and not give him a another heartache to ponder upon.
Just have your recorders ready. I know I will.

I would like to say congrats to Michael on winning his special award and hopefully he'll get more just for doing what he loves to do,filling our hearts with his music.

Thet WMA's, Michaels appearance was a great surpris to us or at least to me cause we had no idea what he was going to do.
As it turned out, the performace with the school children was excellent. People were so happy to see him. That was he firt on stage performance after so called...**** trial.

If he show at the grammys, he will be on stage. We don't know what he will do but whatever he does will be truly admired by his fans.:punk:

Yeah I agree. If he does in fact perform, he should do a song that he's never or rarely performed. Do something unexpected.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

OMG! He is gonna perform!

from the point of view of a fan that has been following his career through the high and low times.. I agree with you..

BUT...

for John Public to get on the MJ bandwagon... a Billie Jean.. performance is a 'must see'..

Let's not start any rumors. It is offically 14 days until the Grammys come on tv. Maybe more performers/appearences would be announced.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

It doesn't matter to me whether he turns up or not at the Grammies. That is all speculation at the moment. If he does I think he will just attend rather than perform. I am sure he will only have a select few things that he will do promotion wise for Thriller 25. The Grammies are around the release date of Thriller 25 so it may be a possibility.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Here's more information from yours truly, Diane Dimond (who has again started writing for the tabloid NYPost, I see). Take it for what it's worth...

MICHAEL JACKSON'S SUPERBOWL COMBACK

By DIANE DIMOND

January 27, 2008 -- [Michael Jackson] wants to kick off a "Thriller" comeback on the Super Bowl stage, The Post has learned.

As part of a marketing plan for the 25th anniversary of the hit Michael Jackson album, a TV spot for SoBe Life Water, a vitamin-enhanced beverage from PepsiCo, will air during the big game next Sunday with a "Thriller" theme, according to documents.

An internal memo from Jackson's former label Sony, written by marketing director Andrew Feigenbaum, prominently mentions the TV spot as "confirmed."

PepsiCo has refused to acknowledge collaborating with The Gloved One on the super-secret project. There was no immediate comment from a Jackson spokeswoman.

The week of Feb. 8 will deliver what the internal memo describes as a "major TV, radio, online and outdoor advertising campaign."

It's likely the covers of the anniversary edition of the album - called "Thriller 25" - which feature photographs of a much younger Jackson with a much darker complexion and a different facial structure, will be seen on billboards around the country.

The official Jackson Web site has been completely redone to resemble a one-stop shop for all things Jackson. Links to the social-networking Web sites MySpace and Facebook are new. Lucrative ringtones have been created for all of the songs from the original album as well as for all the remixes and previously unreleased tracks.

There are also plans under way for Jackson to appear at the Grammy Awards on Feb.10 with young hip-hop artists Fergie, will.i.am and Akon, who also accompany him on remixed or new versions of "Thriller" album tracks.

Blockbuster "Beat It" will now feature Fergie, while Akon joins "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" and will.i.am provides vocals for "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" and "The Girl is Mine."

Meanwhile, the classic "The Girl is Mine," which featured Paul McCartney, has been completely re-recorded, erasing all traces of the former Beatle. [No, no it hasn't.]

Next month's Black Entertainment Television Honors program is set to include a tribute to Jackson.

Jackson is scheduled to appear at both events, but not perform. [BET Honors was already filmed, MJ was not there]

...

While no specific figures were mentioned, it's clear that the "Thriller" campaign is a multimillion-dollar effort and that the Sony-designed p.r. blitz could be a major boost to Jackson's flagging career. Ironically, the record company dumped the star in 2006.

He hasn't released an original album since "HIStory" in 1995 and hasn't toured since October 1997. [Is the obsessed Diane Dimond really THIS ignorant?]

MICHAEL JACKSON'S COMEBACK ATTEMPT

The Gloved One is trying to revive his flagging career with the release of a 25th anniversary ''Thriller'' edition and a flurry of high-profile appearances

* "Thriller"-themed Super Bowl soft-drink commercial

* Re-mixed songs on "Thriller 25" with vocals by hip-hop artists Fergie, Akon and will.i.am

* New track based on "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin"

* Erased any trace of Paul McCartney vocals on "The Girl Is Mine"

* Album will include never-released 1982 tune, "For All Time"

* Grammy Awards appearance scheduled

* BET will host special honoring him

* Launching major TV, radio, online and outdoor ad campaign around Feb. 8

* Negotiating ringtone and other download deals with Sprint and other carriers

Well, this entire thread was started via a source that's based on a Diane Dimond rumor, so... :innocent:

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

I agree with Irish Flower. No offense, TSCM, but the news about all of this is not from the Demon but other reliable sources. It is funny that the monster still has a "job" stalking MJ. Why can she write stories on other people or go away altogether? Anyway, I will take her crap with a grain of salt considering the fact that she stated that Mike's last cd was released in 1997. LOL. The Demon is a fool.

Oh, BTW, MJ is still with Sony. The Demon was trying to say that Sony was his former record company.
