Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

They might announce him at last minute just so all the MJ fans can get tickets.

Also, I agree with all the mofos that have said MJ is still with Sony BMG. Even if he's not under a recording contract with them he is still very much working with/for them.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

does anyone know how much the tickets cost ? do u have any link ? ty :)

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

tickets are something like a thousand dollars at least

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Do you think that if MJJ performs there, it will be much more known that he's coming back?

do you think that if he performs, but that nothing was announced, it will have a bigger impact rather than making a buzz few days before the performance??

Which choice would be better for MJJ????

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Well people will know about it. AFter it happens the after-talk will do the trick. It'll be all overr youtube etc.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

that document also displays TGIM 08 as the global single. In fact it has not been released in many places, and WBSS 08 has taken over. Ofcourse a Grammys involvement is possible, there are multiple reasons why it wuld be the BEST place for his first showing, i would like it to happen, but, i dont see it happening.
But, that document is official from Sony and it does indeed confirm that a Grammy tribute spot was/is in negotiations. You stated: "I aint seen proven evidence that the supposed email claiming the tribute is legit" so that's why I posted it.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

there wont be any performance of him. Maybe "A*cock", but thats all ....
what???

umm... what I tried to say is that it is very likely that akon (=a*cock) might perform, but MJ wont. (IMO)

;)

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Excuse Me for being so blunt, but We need to shut up & wait & see already!

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

tickets are something like a thousand dollars at least

Even though the Grammy prices have nothing to do with MJ, Im used to everything MJ related being expensive generally. Especially appearances and concerts.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Wow, I'm thinking the tickets are at least $2000 dollars if not more, being that it's the Grammys and Michael's appearance etc. I guess we will have to wait and see. Man, it's hard to do that though! lol ^_^

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

if MJ doesn't perform i just hope Musiq Soulchild sweeps the RnB field :)

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

I don't really care who wins each category. No one this year is really deserving of winning any award IMO.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Jim Steeg is the sort of guy who has backup plans for his backup plans.

Think of him as a white-collar Mr. Fix-It, as handy with a cell phone as a plumber with a pipe wrench. For 25 years, Steeg, with his push-broom mustache and unassuming demeanor, was the man in charge of the biggest single-day party known to civilization. To say the Chargers executive vice president and chief operating officer helped boost the popularity of the Super Bowl is an understatement akin to calling the World Wide Web a notable innovation.

To appreciate the spectacle he helped create, and the depths from which he lifted it, consider the halftime entertainment for the last pre-Steeg Super Bowl, in 1979 in Miami: "Caribbean Carnival."

The show was a disaster. The engine powering a float garishly decorated as a boat died, Haitian musicians never arrived and a tarp intended to depict each Caribbean nation became entangled with a goalpost as it was rolled out. The show ended with Steeg, freshly hired by the NFL and there as a horrified observer, helping push the stranded float off the field.

Contrast that to 2005, Steeg's grand finale as Super Bowl ringmaster, when Paul McCartney was the featured performer. Previously, Steeg's Super Bowl productions had included such megastars as Michael Jackson, U2, Aerosmith, Britney Spears and Diana Ross.

The template hasn't changed much since Steeg's departure. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are the halftime headliners for Sunday's Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., between the New England Patriots and New York Giants. Mariah Carey will sing the national anthem.

The A-list entertainers, the Jumbotron replays, the elaborate stadium sound systems, the TV monitors installed in every nook and cranny, the customized banners flying from parking lot light poles, the postgame trophy presentation on the field, the Super Bowl logos stamped on the game balls, the uniformed ushers, the fireworks and the flyovers and the coin for the flip ---- everything right down to the nameplates above each players' locker are Steeg specials.

"I would never say that we really invented everything," said Steeg, 57, who joined the Chargers in 2005 and hasn't attended a Super Bowl since. "We adapted what we saw at other places and put it all together. Under (former NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle) we were allowed to do a lot of experiments."

Most everything Steeg tried worked, although he admits some ideas were deemed too expensive (transistor radios given to every fan) and shows only marginal in quality (Up with People) to keep in the rotation. Just as important as Steeg's eye for innovation was his Midas touch in handling the event's inevitable ---- and innumerable ---- flare-ups.

"Problem solving, that's what he was great at," said Don Renzuilli, the NHL's senior vice president of events and entertainment who worked with Steeg for 10 years as the NFL's senior director of event operations. "There were always things popping up. It was an everyday occurrence.

"He knew everything about the game, down to the last detail, and that made it a lot easier."

Anyone thinking MJ might single the national anthem as I read somewhere, is not going to happen as that spot goes to Mariah.

Having survived one appearance by a member the Jackson family, it looks as though the Super Bowl may be in store for another.
Michael Jackson will make a comeback this weekend in TV advertisements to boost the 25th anniversary of his Thriller video, says the New York Post.
“As part of a marketing plan for the 25th anniversary of the hit Michael Jackson album, a TV spot for SoBe Life Water, a vitamin-enhanced beverage from PepsiCo, will air during the big game next Sunday with a ‘Thriller’ theme, according to documents,” says the story, adding:
An internal memo from *****’s former label Sony, written by marketing director Andrew Feigenbaum, prominently mentions the TV spot as “confirmed.”

PepsiCo has refused to acknowledge collaborating with The Gloved One on the super-secret project. There was no immediate comment from a Jackson spokeswoman.

The week of Feb. 8 will deliver what the internal memo describes as a “major TV, radio, online and outdoor advertising campaign.”
It’s likely the covers of the anniversary edition of the album - called ‘Thriller 25′ - which feature photographs of a much younger Jackson with a much darker complexion and a different facial structure, will be seen on billboards around the country.

Thriller Mk II is being regurgitated by Sony BMG’s re-issue division, Legacy Recordings.
Advertising accounts have also been created on the likes of MySpace and Facebook, says a blatant Wikipedia promo post.
The 2004 a Super Bowl half-time featured Janet Jackson’s ‘wardrobe malfunction‘ in which her left breast popped out for all to see.
Subsequently, 20 CBS-owned TV stations were on the wrong end of the maximum indecency penalty of $27,500 for a total of $550,000, the largest fine ever imposed a TV broadcaster.
CBS is challenging the $550,000 fine, levied by the Federal Communications Commission.
Jackson is the one in red.
Hopefully, he’ll keep all his clothes on.

PORTNOW SAVES THE GRAMMYS

Recording Academy Chief's Diplomacy Skills Come in Handy in Time to Rescue 50th Awards Show

February 1, 2008

In the dark hours of recent weeks, when it appeared that the WGA was fully prepared to derail the 50th Annual Grammy Awards show, Recording Academy President Neil Portnow uttered the rallying cry, “The show will go on.” He then proceeded to figuratively throw himself onto the barricades, doing everything humanly possible to make good on that vow. After succeeding in his mission, an exhausted but exhilarated Portnow summoned up the energy to field questions from our own Roy Trakin, who got through by claiming to be Billboard’s Geoff Mayfield.
Next step for you is resolving the writers’ strike. I expect to be getting calls to do that now. I give credit to all my Great Neck South G.O. President training.

It must’ve been tough to be Switzerland in this situation.
I wasn’t Switzerland, I was armed and dangerous, but it was quite a feat of diplomacy and strategy. Someone told me this situation really played to my strengths, and I suppose it turned out that way.

Are you ready to become a labor lawyer?
No thank you, but I have heard from the Israelis and the Palestinians.

If the writers had decided to picket, was there any chance the Grammys might not have taken place?
It certainly would have made it more complicated. We put together an extraordinary coalition of partners and support within the industry, though. We drafted a letter from our CEO summit, which includes the leadership of every organization we work with, from the RIAA and the NMPA to ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, etc., which I personally delivered to the Writers Guild last week. The unions that represent the musical talent, AFM and AFTRA, very clearly stated that they would advise their members to participate. It is those music unions who govern our telecast, not SAG. If an artist accepts an engagement through the union, they are obligated under that contract to perform. Not that we would have enforced it, because there is certainly some empathy on our part with the writers, but the affected unions were clearly on our side. And then talent began to speak out that they’d be there as well.

Did you have an alternative plan if the writers stood firm?
We didn’t think we needed one. The Grammy telecast is a lot like a rent-controlled apartment in New York—there’s no shortage of people who want to apply for it. The fact is, this is a different industry. To cause CBS three and a half hours of distress on one night, versus a year’s disruption of what the Academy stands for and provides for the music business, didn’t seem to be a fair trade-off.

How will this 5oth anniversary show be different from a normal year?
That’s been the challenge. The prime-time special we had at the end of the year was focused solely on a look back at 25 of the great Grammy moments in history, as chosen by the public. We didn’t want to give short shrift to this year’s crop of nominees. You’ll see elements of the current year, but we will also look back a little bit, and show music as a continuum over time. By connecting the dots between the past, the present and, hopefully, the future, we will attempt to present the soundtrack of our lives for the past 50 years.

You’ve extended the Grammy brand this year to CDs, books, a fashion line and even a museum.
Our 50th anniversary was a perfect occasion to do something I felt was appropriate and somewhat overdue: to take what is arguably the most famous, the most recognized, the most coveted icon in music—the Grammy statue—and find ways for music fans, consumers and our own community to identify with that beyond the one night a year of the awards show. It represents the missions of the Academy, including excellence, philanthropy and charity. The clothing brand offers people the chance to associate with and remind themselves about their love of music and connection to it, especially with the Grammys being, arguably, the arbiter of good judgment and good taste. It includes everything from T-shirts and leather jackets to handbags, cases, eyeglasses, belts and all kinds of stuff that’s probably too cool for me to wear.

What has looking back on these 50 years meant to you?
This has become a very emotional thing for me. Seeing the performers who have appeared, it’s like the sum total of popular culture in this country, quite staggering and awesome, as well as an enormous responsibility to carry that on. It’s made me feel the continuum of what we do is everlasting.

Less than two weeks away from the ceremony. Is this nervous time for you?
Not at all. We don’t like to close out the show too far in advance. Things happen, opportunities come up. Events in the world sometimes have an influence. The final touches are still there to fill in.

Will Amy Winehouse be there?
We hope so. She’s got an immigration hearing, which will have a lot to do with whether she can or not. Other than that, we have heard the same information everybody else has about her intentions to get herself ready and prepared to come and, hopefully, perform.

What about the rumors that Michael Jackson might attend?
I’m not going to speculate on rumors, but we have a lot of respect for him. He’s certainly a historic figure. He’s certainly welcome to be at the ceremony. Whether he performs is another issue. There are things that get done early and quickly and others that don’t get done until the last minute.

The Grammys now represent an important sales spike for an industry that could use one.
It also provides a morale boost for everybody, from the creative folks to the people involved on the business side. It’s a feel-good week, and we could use that, along with the commercial opportunities that certainly come from it. We are proud of that. That is part of what we contribute during Grammy season.

Are there any plans to televise the pre-Grammy ceremony?
For the first time this year, we will stream it live on Grammy.com. In the future, the Nokia Theatre being right there also represents possibilities to develop that presentation even further as a stand-alone piece.

Do you have any thoughts about the next 50 years?
Mine or the Academy’s? [Laughs] We certainly have a great platform to build on. That’s why the slogan for the ad campaign Chiat/Day helped us develop is, “The next 50 is here.” And that’s really how we feel. Everything from this day on is about moving forward.
