Lawyers awarded millions over Michael Jackson taping

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The owner of a Santa Monica-based air charter service has been ordered to pay attorney Mark Geragos and an associate more than $12 million for ordering secret videotaping of Michael Jackson and the lawyers as they flew with the pop star to his surrender on molestation charges in 2003.
A lawyer for XtraJet owner Jeffrey Borer says he'll appeal the Monday judgment.
Borer and a co-defendant pleaded guilty in 2006 to conspiracy for installing digital cameras aboard an XtraJet plane that flew Jackson from Las Vegas to Santa Barbara.
The damages awarded Monday resulted from an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit.
Jackson was acquitted in the molestation case.

Michael Jackson Mentionings:

British designers light up Paris fashion week

But when the show began, to the sounds of Michael Jackson's Thriller, it was obvious Galliano was not sticking to the script. If the audience was expecting some Arabian Night fantasy, it was not to be so.

Bond Keeps Trio In Step

On Jan. 2, Amateur Night, about 64 friends and family members from Newington and New Haven took the train ride to Harlem.

" Michael Jackson moonwalked on that stage that we were performing on," Kuzoian said. "That in itself was an achievement to us."

Also, they didn't get booed.

Based on the Apollo crowd's applause and hollers, E3 placed second to a performer named Lil' Robby, who sang Al Green's "Let's Stay Together." E3 then earned a spot in the second round of Amateur Night.

Ne-Yo could be the next Michael Jackson

By Pocholo Concepcion
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 23:54:00 03/02/2008MANILA, Philippines - It’s not clear to us why Shaffer Smith adapted a stage name like Ne-Yo. Aside from sounding catchy and easy to remember, could the monicker also herald the arrival of a great new (“neo,” note) talent—the kind that would place him in the ranks of Michael Jackson?
Jackson fans may find the comparison premature, since Ne-Yo has been on the scene for less than two years. But his popularity as a singer is enormous, and his influence as a songwriter so pervasive, that he’s reportedly been hired to work on material for, guess what?—a new Jackson album.
Flashes
A few minutes into Ne-Yo’s concert on Friday at the Araneta Coliseum, there were flashes of Jackson’s image—circa mid-1980s, at the height of his powers as King of Pop, before the troubles began. This was because Ne-Yo, wearing a fedora over a black suit, started complementing his high tenor vocals with quick, snappy moves around the mic stand, recalling Jackson’s celebrated performances following the release of “Thriller.”
And, for a split-second, Ne-Yo was caught doing the moonwalk.
But whatever similarities or homage were apparent, we could not overlook the fact that Ne-Yo was his own man. He excelled in giving life to brooding R&B songs that explored the complications of love and relationships. A prime example was “So Sick,” his first big hit, which also opened the Araneta show.

CNY grad had a hand in Jackson's 'Thriller'

Monday, March 03, 2008By Mark Bialczak
Staff writer
Õ7ForgerÕ Yes, Matt Forger says, the core five who worked so long and hard on the album "Thriller" 25 years ago knew they had something special.
Boy, were they right about that.
Of the nine songs on "Thriller," seven made Billboard's Hot 100 Top 10.
And, of course, the album went on to global sales of more than 104 million, the best-selling record of all time.
The memories came back full force for Solvay native Forger as Michael Jackson put together "Thriller 25."
Forger was a consultant for the package, a remastered edition of the record-setting album coupled with seven bonus tracks, including collaborations with Will.i.am, Fergie, Akon and Kanye West that was released on Feb. 12.
"I was contacted whenever people needed information,"
Forger says by telephone from his home in Chatsworth, Calif. "I'm the person who knows where all the little elements are hidden and what the little notes in the files mean."
Back then, Forger was in charge of the technology.
"At that time, all of it was recorded to analog tape with 24 tracks," he says. "The largest of my duties was managing a system that allowed us to use as many 24-track tapes as we could on each song, to develop the layered style of music that Quincy (Jones, the producer) and Mike (Jackson) envisioned."

Van Halen – then and now

EDDIE VAN HALEN – Life was one long after-party for the guitar god in the mid-’80s: His band had crossed into Casey Kasem territory with “1984,” he had the signature solo on Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and despite his despised dabbling in synths, Eddie still reigned supreme with the guitar mags that crowned the kings of fret board pyrotechnics.

Michael Jackson HIStory:

1979 - Michael Jackson's "You Can't Win" peaked at #81 in the U.S. It was his debut with the Epic label.

1984 - Michael Jackson's single "Thriller" hit #4 in the U.S. It was the seventh and final single from the album "Thriller."

1985 - Madame Tussaud's waxworks unveiled their look-alike of Michael Jackson.

Ooh, Galliano used the new remixes. Wow, MJ really is everywhere [without being everywhere]! I love it when fashion shows use MJ music or showcase MJ-inspired looks =).

And Ne-Yo may be popular, but I highly doubt he can be considered the next MJ *rolls eyes*.

Re: 3rd March, 2008: MJ News and Mentionings

Yeah I thought it was really cool of Galliano :D just had to post that when I saw it :p

Jackson fans may find the comparison premature, since Ne-Yo has been on the scene for less than two years.

When I read that I was like duuuh!

I guess this is because....
a.) Michael is where he is now from more than two years in the lime light
b.) Jackson fans are sick of the media and others trying to find a "replacement" for something that doesn't need replacing

So why try 2 destroy A living Man???

well this is my opinion!!:)

Re: 3rd March, 2008: MJ News and Mentionings

^There's nothing to worry about :flowers: Everyone knows no one can beat Michael, and no one can beat the facts what he has achieved in music industry. He is unique.
I take this "Ne-Yo could be the next MJ" as does Ne-Yo has what it takes to become such a legend as Michael is. Ne-Yo is talented, but can he use his talents in right ways?
I don't think anyone wants to be compared to Michael or to be hinted to be the next MJ.. Imagine what pressures it gives to this artist, because Michael is in totally different level. And nowadays artists has a lot to do to so they could be in a same level where Michael is :)

Re: 3rd March, 2008: MJ News and Mentionings

its called messing wiht his legacy trying to get any also ran R&B star to suddenly become a huge international megastar. trying to compair an same ole r&B singer whos hardly known outside of the USA to mj. guess they will be calling him the kop next

Re: 3rd March, 2008: MJ News and Mentionings

Thanks for the news. L.J. :flowers:

Ne-yo being the next MJ..I don't think so, There Will never be another MJ
There IS ONLY ONE!!!!!!!!

Re: 3rd March, 2008: MJ News and Mentionings

LOL! It appears that EVERY male singer that comes out, is "supposed" to be the NEW Michael Jackson.

What I find funny is that they have "tried" to stick that title on Usher, Justin, Chris Brown, and I guess now it's Ne-Yo's turn.

lol premature.. i guess it's only "Jackson fans" who can work out that by Ne-Yo's age, Mike was already through with Thriller and recording Bad.

Rashida Jones: From the Other Woman to Leading Lady

by Brantley Bardin

TV Guide: But don't you pine to be in the tabloids alongside Britney Spears or Michael Jackson?
Jones:
Oh, yeah, it ismy deep desire to behounded by people whowant to see me fail. Tome, Michael Jackson is the great American tragedy. Look at what we've done to him and to Britney — where's the responsibility? It's terrifying to think that you stop even trying to be a person in the real world because you're afraid to be accosted. As a sensitive person, I'm gonna have to find a way to not be as affected by it as I am.

i get so pissed when ppl compare michael to britney like that  britney brought all the ish to herself by abusing drugs and alcohol and she has a mental illness as well (which shes not responsible for of course). michael has had some legal troubles which he was absolutely not responsible for. no comparison whatsoever. if some ppl used their brain cells a little bit they would see that

These folks are apparently obsessed with Michael. LOL!

I mean, they don't see Michael for months at a time, yet they continue to bring up his name at every opportunity. I can see them continuing to talk about Britney, because she is ALWAYS in their faces, with Michael it's the complete opposite.

The media is just obsessed with Michael Jackson, what else can it be.

Michael hasn't been seen in months and hasn't done anything publically in years. Why would TV Guide even bring him up?

u said it! the media are totally obsessed with michael. we havent had any real news in ages yet they bring him up everyday. as for britney, shes all over the place and she feeds the tabloids and the paps with her behavior and her attitude.
michael has always been a private decent dignified man whos never done nothing wrong.
hes very shy, humble, down to earth, sensible, way too normal for many ppl out there.
a great wonderful father who always looks out for his and his childrens well being and who does his best to stay away from the medias eyes.
britney doesnt have half of his success and fame and look what shes become. if she was in michaels shoes i doubt she would be alive today. thats one of the main reasons why i admire michael so much. hes the most successful and famous person in the world yet the sweetest, nicest, kindest, and most importantly hes never been into drugs and alcohol like most of the celebs. especially in the music business drugs and alcohol are all over the place and its hard like hell to avoid them. michael deserves a special award only for being able to stay away from that ish
