Billie Jean- American Idol

WHOA!!!!! HE STOMPED ALL OVER MICHAEL'S VERSION AND MADE IT 20 TIMES BETTER!!! OUTSTANDING!!!!

YEAH RIGHT!!!! It was ok, I guess.

Yeah Syesha was one of the best of the night...but not the best that SHE'S done, certainly. I don't think she delivered that song with enough power...and in general the PERFORMER, stage presence, SOMETHING has been lacking lol Like jordin sparks. She can sing the roof off, but...does nothing for me. She sounds nice but thats about it lol

Syesha was the best since Hollywood week when she killed that one song. I do not think that she was trying to deliver the song with any power. I think she was trying to get the best out of herself with that song. I thought she did the best that she could.

Now, about Jordin, who I like, she could do better perfromance wise, but other than that, she is doing alright. She has two hit singles on the charts and the songs are pretty good. I did see her do her thing at the Superbowl and she was alright, performance wise.

OH MY GOSH, I almost fainted..........whew!!!!! That was close-lol

wow, I really stopped chewing my food when I read that!!!!!

One way to avoid the challenge of singing Billie jean, sing a different song entirely! LOL

Sorry but Jordin at the superbowl looked like she had practiced her facial and hand motions in the mirror a million times

I agree to disagree though about this one LOL

I think both Chris Cornell and David Cook do excellent singing
on the rock-style version of Billie Jean.
I think Michael Jackson would approve.

I think he would too, definitely, and it gives him props. I like that everyone told him it was brave because that's admitting that it's some big shoes to fill to sing a Michael song. I thought the same thing that someone else thought when I heard Ryan say that David was singing Billie Jean. I thought maybe I had heard him wrong when I heard the music start. Then I listened to the words, and I was like, "That is it!" I really liked it a lot! If he had tried to sing it just like Michael's, then I would have compared the two and no way he would have been able to compete. He was very smart and did a completely different arrangement, and I loved it!

I don't understand why they can't say David cook doing chris cornell's version of michael jackson's billie jean.

I hate it when others perform MJ songs...I prefer the original and I don't want to change that!

I sort of agree, ESPECIALLY if they try to sing like Michael!! Even though, I wouldn't say I hate it when others cover MJ's songs...because it IS great publicity for MJ and a great form of "flattery"....but I still prefer the originals. The best cover of an MJ song so far is Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal in my opinion. But as I said...I still prefer the original.

thats one clever dude... rips off a less known version of a BIG song, and everyone thinks he made the original his own.. when in fact he just copied someone else that no-one knows about

Well I wouldn't blame the guy singing....I'd blame the jury for not bringing out the truth. It is wrong if this guy gets credit for what Chris Cornell did because this guy's version was pretty much exactly Cornell's cover.

I didn't really like the song at all. I just can't "handle" Billie Jean as a slow rock song. It's like "raping" the song. The dude who sang it has a great voice and did a great performance...I just don't like that version of the song.

Yeah, that sounded pretty cool.

Represent...represent...represent.

Hey, Mike. How'd you like it? That's what I wanna know.

The show was just shown on Australian TV.

Terrible.

I'm sorry, but it was. All he did was cover was Chris Cornell's cover. It was nothing new. And I've never liked Cornell's version. If you change the song that much it just takes away so much from it. It's an insult to the original. It's like you think the original was good enough and you're trying to make a bad song good. He's got a powerful voice, and I've liked his performances over the last few weeks. But this was just such a terrible arrangement. I understand he's going for the rock sound, but Billie Jean can be made into a rock song without turning it into a boring sack of crap. E.g......

But on a positive note, Michael Johns was AMAZING! And I could stab the judges for dissing David Archuleta's song choice. You're The Voice is one of my favourite songs and means a lot to me personally. I've got to applaud the kid for making such a bold song choice. Stupid judges. I lol'd at how Simon said "You're The Voice" sounded like something a theme park where everyone joins in and hold hands and sings along, but then he praised whatsherface for singing "God Bless America". LOL. If there's ever a song that sounds like a hold hand sing songy thing, it's "God Bless America".

We don't get A I until Thursday evening in the UK, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. David Cook is my favourite and I bet he did a good job on the song.

I LOVE IT!! And I bet MJ is very proud of him!! What makes this outstanding is that he took this song, and made it his own....just like Simon wanted contestants to do. Highly original version....it was GREAT!!

David was not original but I think Davids was better. I actually enjoyed David's. I think Chris's was horrible. I think i is fun that all these different factions have broken out over MJ's Billie Jean, even after 25 years.

David's voice is clearer and more soulful..I think out of all, David's really captured the original meaning of that song...

That's arguable. David Cook is an American Idol contestant. Chris Cornell is one of the greatest voices in rock music. It's the exact same version. The show even acknowledged that it was Cornell's version. They introduced it was "David Cook singing Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean." Tbh, when we fans first heard about Cornell's cover in early 2007, all I heard was a live version and I hated. The first time I heard the CD version was after the David Cook performance. Cornell's version is actually very, very good. Cook bored it down heaps.

What they SHOULD have introduced it is DAVID COOK's VERSION of Chris Cornell's ROCK VERSION of Billie Jean.

David was way better. Whenever you sing a song, you need to capture the original mood, the original intent, the original MEANING in that song. And David did that. Perfectly. Soulfully.

Well the fact is, that although Cornell and Cook sung with pain, torment and suffering in their voice, there's many more elements to the song than that. The song starts off with the protagonist speaking positively about Billie Jean (she was more like a beauty queen, from a movie scene) and then it's got sexual undertones (dance on the floor in the round). The then second verse has some anger to it when he's singing about the law was on her side, then some sadness and pain when he sings about the photo of the baby with eyes just like his. So many different levels to the song. Michael is the only one who captures them all and delivers it perfectly.

That damn billie Jean has so many twist and turn in it that you would need a detective to sort out what the hell is going on, No wonder there was a detective in the video. At least the message is heard. Think twice.:p The ending of Connels wwas aweful:mello:

I like the Chris Cornell version. I 1st heard it a year ago. But I didn't like the Blackstreet version, nor the remix to it.

This performance has really put this guy over the top. It's being discussed everywhere. Now people are saying David Archuleta has fallen from the front runner spot and has been over taken by David Cook. I think it's safe to say he'll probably perform this again on the finale.

I loved it. I can't help feeling that this Billie Jean is going to have a new life of hi't own. I think BJ is going rock. The tune is exactly the same, it is just slowed down and played with giutar , that is all..

Although I don't watch American Idol, I had to check it out on YouTube, after reading about it this morning in the newspaper. I love it also.

I agree with you, this version is going to breath new life into Billie Jean, a different type of breath.

I just want to confirm that Michael wrote Billie Jean and the credit for that song belongs to him and only him, because if this version turns into a hit, as I suspect it will, Michael Jackson is about to get paid, all over again! (And that's my favorite part of this entire story. LOL!)
