i said it and will say it again.
the only three performances I liked were
Leona Lewis - very very nice , but really short
Paramore - AWESOME! So much energy shows that it might not all be THAT bad...
P!NK - What can I say? The queen at her best. She is really the one and only. Her voice is AMAZING (heard her live twice, mind you ) and she is... She has so much power and energy that she carries a bit of that old rock'n'roll energy, such as Janis Joplin had. You should hear her sing her songs live...priceless.
Some people say - she is spitting on her husband , she is friends with LMP and that's why she is spitting on her ex, but what none of them even care to notice is that CAREY AND ALECIA ARE BEST FRIENDS - and they are TOGETHER IN THE VIDEO! Why would he even accept doing the video if the joke was on him? It is a mutual joke - and it worked damn fine for me. Actually Pink's performance might just be the best I have seen in last...well ... 5 VMA awards. Really really stunning. Great looks,great voice, energy, performance, SETTING ... Everything was awesome. That was my 5 minutes of enjoying the old MTV... That and the two I had mentioned before...
Now it's all... whatever.

Well, I be damned. The show is completely corrupt. Not even gonna be bothered to post a thread about this crap show next year. No effing wonder. The Madonna praises - I am not even shocked. Britney winning last night - I can't be shocked. Evil Perez already showed his true colors.

Also as much as i love britney and was dying to see her i wish she wouldve said more than 30seconds of her intro or did something more...but i cant complain cuz i was satisfied in just seeing her back, looking flawless and winning not only her first waaaaaaay long overdue moonman ever, but all 3 that she was nominated for!!! Including the biggest award of the night - video of the year!!!!!!! This was her night even if the show sucked...and whether "piece of me" really deserved all of those awards....who gives a damn...at least she finally won!!!!! Cuz shes been snubbed every year shes been nominated...i mean...how "toxic", her best video ever, not have won any vmas or any of her other outstanding videos??? Shes set the bar for a lot of pop acts as far as videos and if "piece of me" didnt didnt deserve the moonman she recieved, then all her videos that didnt win in the past took those moonmen home for her that night....i dont blame her for not looking or seeming so enthusiastic about winning that night...cuz shes been fucked over by mtv and the vmas for the longest...its bout time they kiss her ass and give her what she desrves!!!!!!!

Come on, be realistic - was it a hit? Was the album a hit?
She deserves it? No she doesn't. Not for this album/song at least. Props to her for her earlier hits, but this album SUCKS SO BAD that she rushed to make it, and made it in like 2 months,and now is making a new one. They gave her the award just so they could her bring her back in the positive spotlight and make her look normal. And NO it's NOT OK, cuz they've been giving Michael the hardest of times - what about what HE deserved? None of those poor rap T-Pain T.I. T-Rex, T-MILLION or whatever wouldn't even have BEEN there if that very same Michael Jackson hadn't achieved what he had in music. They kick him all the time, and it's like they took over their throne, instead of praising him for making pop music and MTV so big.
So once again I don't CARE who DESERVED what! Not anymore! Cause they don't care. What about all those brilliant bands and artists that TRULY deserved to win various of awards and DIDN'T because they are NOT BRITNEY SPEARS. And if it's the measurement of success nowadays to come to the awards riding an ELEPHANT and acting like a complete IDIOT then I am glad these bands are "unsuccessful".
So if you don't admit that this was all a setup in Britney's honor, then you are brain-washed as well!

i do agree that Britney seemed to give a cold shoulder vibe in that intro...something mtv has deserved for a long time. it seems she treated it as a business stop, and that's it.
I understand it's your opinion but I completely disagree. Even though Britney has been going through hard times Blackout is still one of, if not the best album she has put out. Despite ZERO promotion Blackout did manage to go platinum and it did garner two top 20's. So yes, it was a modest hit but a hit nonetheless.

Hmmm, maybe you are one to something. You know, her old manager was sitting next to her at the show last night. You have Perez Hilton, who is in a "committee" that decides what videos should win, and you have MTV who tried to make Britney look insane last year, but kiss her ass this year. They never, ever did that for Mike. Maybe it is possible, that in some way, in order for her to be "respected" by MTV, she has to agree to what they want to do to her. It is possible that the ass kissing was intentional because I wondered why they did not do this for Mike. Why they keep on saying that basically they have nothing to do with what happened to Michael in 2002. Interesting.

Well you see, that is your opinion. What I give are FACTS. The album flopped, you can call it good, no matter what - I like Brave by JLO the album but it flopped terribly. And why didn't she get any awards? Because she is not in the deal with MTV and that damn asshole Perez. Easy as that.
If it had been a hit, I'd say, ok - logically. (Cause nowadays hit doesn't necessarily equal good - most of the times it is quite the contrary...) But this way I can't understand how she DESERVED it.

Um, she didn't win cause it was the best video. She won cause MTV decided that this year they were hosting the BMA's.
The vid shouldn't have won, and I can't say that she was ever "snubbed" cause I'd actually have to see who won all the awards that she's been nominated for before I can say that she deserved them over the winner.
I like plenty of artists. Some that I consider to be musically great, and some that I think are pretty/hot and I can dance to their music in a club, but their music would be gone in a year or less.. But I know that the latter (no matter how cute or how much i like to dance to their stff) should never win over those who deseve to.
I guess it matters more if you care about the state of music. Music matters SO much to me and will be the basis of the rest of my life and I feel like awards, be it the grammys, ama's, or vma's should be given to those who really deserve it, and those who have made something great. If the standard keeps lowering as quickly as it is, why even give out awards??? Or better yet, give one out to everyone that made a video cause then i'm sure that at least a little justice has been served!
I feel like the winners of awards should be an elite crowd of good artists. Just like "old hollywood" and The "older music biz", it will never be like that again- real talent winning all the awards. Just like someone mentioned, they all dress like it's a club when they go to awards shows!

Someone can put out alot of crappy, and I mean really crappy albums, and then put out one that is semi-crappy, but that doesnt mean they deserve an award! I'm not referring to Britney in the example I just used, but I'm saying that just because an "artist" has their best album doesn't mean that they should win over ppl who have done or always do better.
I feel like I'm bashing Britney Spears, but I'm not, for those who may think i am. I have no problem with her, I have alot of her music on my ipod, but I'm not gonna say what isnt true.

And there ARE good bands out there and good artists. And I am happy that they are not promoted as Britney or any of those lame RAPPERS (if they can be called that today) - and cause they are not that popular, it even makes them more precious. Cause popularity is in 85% of the case a CURSE today.

He is a music fan like anyone else. Like anyone else, he has a bias. People literally rely on this fool to tell them what is considered "hot" or "music" of today. This is how gossip blogs have almost taken over anything credible. However, the VMAs have been uncredible for years and years. It just bothers you to a core, esp. when Perez's job is to bash people for a living.

exactly. just as i posted earlier. nothing more that a P.R stunt to get the show more attention. as i read this morn russel brand was declaring it the biggest comeback blah blah blah. unfortunatly even after they treated her like s*** last year she agreed to comeback and they kissed her ass for it. having to swallow your pride but they kissed her ass in return.

Well I have to admit, that T-Pain arriving on an elephant is one of those VMA "moments" that we all miss. At least SOMEONE created something bizarre and memorable. Like Michael with N'Sync, or Britney kissing Madonna and Christina (no matter how disgusting it was, it was memorable), Beyonce comin down from the ceiling...they're all memorable moments. And was it the VMAs where the dude from RATM climbed up on the stage on top of the thing (I dunno what it was, a decoration?) and the police had to get him down? Bizarre stuff like that...that's what makes these awards shows lol.
And you are SO RIGHT about how they treat Michael. It's ridiculous. That is precisely why this whole Britney ass kissing thing really pissed me off. They want to worship Britney and put her on ths goddess status, on a pedestal, as a "comeback", but they never did any such thing for Michael. They're assholes.

The show's got no class, MTV has no class and the pop acts (because these people AREN'T artists) have no class. The music sucks, the singers can't even sing, the rappers sound like they've got a stutter, the dancers are just ametuer singers who have to dance. I mean, the hell, there's something so wrong here. If anyone can look at that pathetic display of what the industry has to offer today and not say music isn't as good as it used to be or denie that the standards have dropped to a hellish level, then they're either deaf, dumb, blind, all three or just plain stupid.
Britney Spears may appear to be in the same position as Michael, with the media lambasting her for the past two years, but make no mistake, she never was and never will be in the same situation as Michael. It only appears that way on the surface, but what's happened to Michael and the way he's been treated for the past 25 years runs so much deeper and has so much more to do with human nature then anything Britney's gone through. That's why Britney is being accepted again. With her it's a simple case of wanting to build her up to knock her down and then show that they have the power to build her up again. With Michael, the way he's treated is out of a lack of understanding what and who he is, fear because of that misunderstanding and inability to define him and an inability to relate to him.

mj never gave them the chance thats why. they may have asked him to but he may have told them to shove it. or they just didnt ask at all. it makes for an intresting debate when ppl are talking about mj going on the show again. it was great p.r for britney after last year. did she grit her teeth and agree to it because itsgood p.r even if she wanted to tell them to shove it and should mj or the fans grit his teeth if it means he gets his ass kissed by them and gets great P.R for once?
