The news are from a deutchland Blu-ray news web page. The info is for the deutchland release. I don´t know if the Uk release will be different with more extras.

Oooooh me wants :) Kinda need a Blu Ray player though! To have it in Blu Ray quality will be just amazing. Disapointed at the lack of extras but never mind!

I recently bought blu-ray player to see This Is Is in HQ, but it was to heartbreaking to see, soo... I can't wait to get the Moonwalker on BR :)

It was filmed at 1.85 : 1 and so there will be small black bars on top and bottom if they keep original AR on the disc. I would really hate to see it 'zoomed' to 1.78 : 1 (16x9) :(
For those with 'square' TV (4x3) ... what am I talking about ... who buys a Blu-ray disc and plays on a standard TV :lol: but if you do, there will be black pillars on all sides no matter what AR unless Fullscreen of course ...

If they frame it for 1.78:1 they won't be zooming in, they will be opening it up a little. Moonwalker wasn't filmed hardmatted (except for the leave me alone video which was created optically because of the special effects.) Generally 1.85:1 are shot on the full 1.33:1 film and framed for 1.85:1, leaving extra info on the top and bottom. The previous VHS/ Laserdisc (and dvds from the laserdisc master) have been full screen, those transfers were not Pan/Scan they were full frame versions that opened the matts from the original neg.

With that said, common practice is to make 1.78:1 transfers from 1.85:1 films (when the were not shot hard matted). But the good news is your Tv's overscan will probably cover that little bit of extra frame, so no need to worry :eek:)

I wasn't saying that it will be ... more of I hope they don't. I understand all the AR stuff. I have just seen some films done improperly (zoomed) and just hope it doesn't happen to this one.
It's almost like sometimes they allow amateurs using simple PC software to create DVDs :(

I noticed that the description said 5.1 for the audio. I wonder if they actually remixed the songs in true 5.1 like on the Dangerous and HIStory DVDs. I hope so.

If they went through the trouble to do that then I would think that it will get released here in the U.S eventually.

I think it is shameful they are not releasing it in North America.

My Moonwalker copy (a VHS) dates back to 1991 when Dangerous came out...we don't even own a VCR anymore.

I'm in the same boat as you! I have the Moonwalker VHS, but no VCR to play it on.
 
Moonwalker Blue-Ray - date of release changed!

There was a plan for releasing Moonwalker in Blue-Ray in May.
The date was postponed on June 2 in Japan, June 3 in UK and June 9 in France.

On June 25, only in Japan there will be available a special edition of Moonwalker BR with a t-shirt

It's not a devastatingly long delay - had it been pushed back by months I'd have been furious, lol.

I like that t-shirt, pity it's Japan only, but I wounder why that edition is released 3 weeks later and not day-and-date with the standard blu-ray? It's not like they need more time as they've already put it back, so it's clearly intentional. Just seems like an odd strategy (was similarly perplexed by the ridiculous 3 week gap between the 1 and 3 disk UK King of Pop albums).
