yes. Michael Jackson is the first and only artist, where i back up the song and listen to parts over and over, because of the quality of his voice. i have never done that with any other singer, and i never will, with any other singer. his voice is the best of all time.
I know what you mean. Very few singers make me do that, and MJ does it the most of all. And even though I must have listened to his entire back catalogue for hundreds/thousands of times now, I keep being mesmerized by vocal parts that I never paid extra attention to but suddenly just hit me or jump out, and which cause me to rewind again and again. It's amazing really.
Some that come to mind now:
-
Keep The Faith: "Some things in life you best just leave 'em alooowne."
-
That's What You Get For Being Polite: "That makes him buy things for the girls."
-The
Give in to Me demo. I'm not even exactly sure if it is what he's saying, but it sounds like "I might live my life alone yeaaah-he-ahah." The emotion and grittiness in his voice there is brilliant.
-
She's Out of my Life on the Dangerous Tour in Buenos Aires (where the girl is all over MJ, and vice versa): "aaand it cuts... like a kni-i-i-hiife.. Oh lord." Always love MJ's "oh lord's."
-
Human Nature in TII: "I like loving this way... I like looooving this waay."
I also find that the brilliance of his voice sometimes becomes more apparent on his non-solo songs, because of the contrast to the other vocalist(s).
-On
Can You Feel It, when MJ first chimes in with "all the colours of the world should be, lovin' each other wholeheartedly."
-On
Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming: "Midnight... images of you" and "Could be magic... could be fantasy.. could it be that we're in loohohove?"
-Near the end on
Get It with Stevie - "I know that I-hii will be the one whooo willlll...." And then: Stevie, giddy and enthusiastically: "I'm gonna get it." MJ in response, in his rough voice: "Yyyouu ain't gonna get it." Sounds awesome and cracks me up as well.
