Madonna Appreciation thread - For fans

Re: Madonna

In a year I'll be saying half the album bores me to death. It happens every time and maybe out of 300 albums I'm able to go right back through maybe 100 of those and listen right through without being bored or skipping one track.

American Life is on the way. I'm actually more excited to hear that one more than RoL. For whatever reason I can't get past Little Star or Mer Girl. When those come on I switch off.

My God, you have 100 albums where you can listen to every song?

I have about 10 if I'm lucky. Actually that's a good idea for a thread.

Re: RoL, I think that's why I struggle with that & Music, song of the songs are too....poncy for me & they lose that Madonna melody & hook.

Especially on Music, where you have the blissful title track and Don't Tell Me combined with the dirge of Paradise or I deserve it.

Ray Of Light is better than Music though as most of it is listenable, I just don't think it's that ultimate Madonna album that most of the music press would have you believe.

Yep - most of those would be blues and rock and roll albums with the odd exception of orchestra, ambient and classical. That's why sometimes compilation albums are far better choices for new introductions: they cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Whether they focus on the earlier and later is a given. The Essential albums I find do this best.

I love Don't Tell Me and it was the first song that stood out to me on Celebration - and Sorry. Great songs the two - I must like the later efforts of the mid-late 90s and early 2000s much like with many of the other bands (and single artists) I listen to: a respective period where they started to really find themselves and do incredible stuff. U2, Aerosmith, AC/DC, GnR, Michael Jackson, the Stones etc.

RoL: great production but seems to be a bit empty in parts. It's the lack of the live studio-feel that Erotica and earlier records have in spades (at least they sound live-ish enough), combined with over-reliance of samples that I've never been a big fan of. You've really gotta have the whole setup in there: non-sampled guitars / bass and real drums.

That's where it's at.

Re: Madonna

Last time she was there was in '06. It's definitely time for another Grammy performance. Hopefully next year there will be some new music and a possible performance and nominations.

:wild: :punk: :timer:

Meanwhile... I'm very anxious to watch W.E. :wild: :timer: (I do not know if Madonna is still in Berlin...) and I'm happy that David Guetta won the Grammy for the remix of "Revolver" in the category "Best Remixed Recording". :wild: That's it, Madge! :punk: :clapping:

Re: Madonna

What is this in response to and what's the point? It seems really inappropriate and even possibly rude. I'm not sure what context I am supposed to be taking this in. Are you trying to be cute? That's a pic from Madonna's SEX book, a time that Madonna was going through some personal stuff and she's no longer that person. Maybe you can explain yourself?

At least I wasn't the only one left wondering; I didn't know where it came from.

Whatever the point made was, I've no idea.

Re: Madonna

Still no verdict? I wish this person would come back and explain things. I'm still like ???

Re: Madonna

We can't be left hanging like this. It's maddening trying to make sense of it. Look at all of us! We're all WTFing! :D

yeah, let's just move on, back on topic.

Madonna.

Just the other day I was thinking of the many great things she's done. You might agree or disagree with his early ways, that obsetion with sex and so on (the picture... lol...), but in terms of music, I am happy she has really tried different sounds and textures in her music. And though many hate it, I love it when she re invents her old songs for every new tour. I just love it, for it is like keeping that songs fresh and burning.

But... has Madonna been really recognized? I don't know. I feel she is underrated and she shouldn't be. Again, there are really many things about her I don't like, but she is so smart. I really admire her hard work, his smart ways. And I love to see her with her kids around. Her kids have been so good for her :)

Re: Madonna

^ Of course she's been recognised. I don't get it when people say Madonna or MJ aren't recognised enough. They're the top selling acts in recent history & depending on who you believe MJ is the #1 selling male solo artist & Madonna the best selling female.

Sure, as fans we know about the great stuff that others don't (i.e. in Madonna's case, American Life, Erotica, the amazing tours etc). But I'm a fan of a lot of acts that never even dented the charts and they'd kill to be recognised 1% of how much Madonna is.

Re: Madonna

Salles don't matter when it comes to music recognition. What matters is whether people recognize their contribution in music because music is what stays.Sales do not indicate how important is one artist.I mean look who are the top sellers these days. Reality show albums or whatever they are called. Yes, Madonna is surelly recognized in that area.Lot's of young artist cite her as their influence and you can see that she has influenced a lot. That's not the case with Mike, unfortunatelly.

Anyway.Since we are talking about Madonna i have to say that i really admired her speach after Mike's passing. I was watching it the other day and i must say that it was very moving.I read someone's comment here that said that MJ fans were pissed at her about that speach.I don't know if that's true but if it is, then it's too bad. Her speach was one of the best things that someone did in Mike's memory. Words full of respect, truths that no one had the b@lls to say or admit and most important no stupid jokes or imitations.Beautiful, beautiful speach.Apparently only she could handle it and she nail it. Much respect for that.

I agree that the sales isn't the same kind of recognition. Yes, it shows that artists like MJ and Madonna are immensely popular and while it does recognize talent in some way, it's not the same as having artistry respect.

However, I disagree that Madonna is more recognized for her music and influence on other artists more so than MJ. That's not true at all. MJ's stamp is all over modern music. From not so noticable influences, down to complete copycats (Usher, etc). I really don't see how that could be denied. MJ has lots of industry respect.

Madonna has certainly influenced the current generation of females, but nowhere close to the impact of the one and only Michael Jackson. I don't believe for a second that Madonna has ever truly been recognized for more than her pop culture influences. The music gets overlooked. Her artistry is overlooked. Used to, that was because the controversy overshadowed the work, but the past decade or so she mellowed out and the music shined. Even so, few want to give her credit for that. I don't believe she'll get the recognition she deserves until she is dead and gone. It's one of those "Don't know what ya got til it's gone" situations.

And yes, Madonna was flogged here for her speech. There's no debate about that. I was there. They said stuff like that "she made it all about her" and "it was just a publicity stunt". Never mind the fact that the family gave their approval for her to deliver such a speech. They clearly wanted someone who could represent the era and express the true loss. No one was close to being as big a star as MJ but Madonna. The two went hand in hand as far as pop stars and the media goes. And no, they aren't anything alike musically or artistically, but still... no one could have made a more powerful statement than Madonna.

It's a shame many refuse to give Madonna credit but that's often the case. I guess I've simply grown accustom to it over the years. Her motives are always questioned. She can't adopt a baby, raise a family, or help out an impoverished nation without it being controversial. Madonna has been controversial from day one. Her style caused a stir and once nude photos were found (her early modeling days) it was one controversy after the next. Many say that Madonna purposely created controversies (which she did) but I believe she was a magnet and it followed her irregardless. Somewhat reminiscent of the way MJ created controversy without even trying.

Re: Madonna

I do like her, and I liked "Confessions on a Dance Floor" the best, out of all the stuff she's done in the last decade or so. She's pretty entertaining and definitely unique--her performances certainly are good.

With that said, though, I must say I'm rather disappointed at her Material Girls clothing line, in which she collaborated with her daughter. I was really looking forward to seeing what it would look like, and had high hopes since both of them are so stylish...but it seemed rather lackluster and plain, in my humble opinion. I expected something...edgier, I guess. I know we're talking about music here, but since this is one of her recent projects [and I was really looking forward to see what their joint efforts would create], I figured it was worth a mention.

With that said, I like her Hard Candy album a lot as well, and I definitely think she's a good artist, and very talented, not only in singing, but in dance and entertainment as a whole experience.

Well, you know, she's a mother now, has four children, she changed...... and she has some teenage fans.

Madonna and Lourdes at the Oscars party...

One word... stunning! Some may argue that she's not age appropriate (what does that even mean?), but she's Madonna and should be able to flaunt it for as long as she's got it.

Lourdes doesn't look 14 years old.. That girl looks to be about 25 or 26 years old.. Definitely looking to grown for her age

Re: Madonna

Agreed. ^ I think Madonna is prettier today than she was 10-15 years ago. She cleans up nice. ;)

Re: Madonna

What you guys think about Madonna taking Lourdes to the after OSCAR parties.?? And your thoughts about paris & prince attending the big VANITY FAIR OSCAR bash when they go into showbiz.

Someone should tell them they are both beautiful, even more when not hiding behind that much make up. A stylist didn't know his borderline probably...

The makeup is very classy. I could understand criticism of Madonna's dress but the makeup is spot on.

As for Lola attending an Oscars party, um, she's being accompanied by an adult who just so happens be her Mom. Something tells me there wasn't any crazy partying or need for worry.

Right, but the clothing line was aimed at teenage/young adult females, so the clothes should be edgier? I mean, she obviously has stunning style, as does her daughter, so...why such a lacking clothing line?

I mean, c'mon.

Look at how awesome they look. There's really no excuse for them to produce something like this: http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=509017&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

On the up-side, though, the accessories are win: http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=490250&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

[Macy's wouldn't let me take the images.]
