“Hollywood Tonight” VIDEO premieres NOW

The video is whatever... It's nothing special. They could do SO MUCH better at a Michael Jackson music video. I mean, it's not terrible, but to me it's kind of corny with rare highlights, mostly the cool MJ inspired dancing...

The best part of the video, in my opinion, is the new mix of the song. So happy they took out the spoken part and switched things up a bit. It does sound a lot more like that original demo Michael had of it from that hotel room recording.

The Billie Jean beat kind of throws me off, especially at first... but I enjoy it a lot, especially with the video turned off.

i actually liked the billie jean beat mixed in it made it fresh the video was ok it was wasnt the magic michael brings to his vids but it was ok id watch it again and that gal daces vvv well i was impressed with her mj moves!

I like it a lot. Does anyone remember the movie Flashdance? The whole stripper thing reminded me of that. She had to make a living and dancing she loved. The end she had her big audition for a dance company. It's very realistic. This is a demo? I like it because I can hear Michael even better. In the cd I liked that version but I always felt there was other noises or something around Michael singing. Is that autotune or over processing?

I think the fact they took the time to do a video should be appreciated. We are not going to get Michael videos like we used to. I remember people saying they want to hear Michael untouched and now it's still not enough? He may not be in the video but his spirit is. I think it's better than Hold My Hand. I liked that too. Some videos today have no story or just things all over the place. I am not going to name anybody but they are well known by now.

Everytime something new is put out it's not good enough. One day they may decide not to give anything new because it's not worth the headache and stick with everything Michael did in the past. I am not going to overanalyze anything because I am no expert and there are more important things to worry about like the trial coming up and justice for Michael. I am just going to enjoy it for what it is. I hear Michael singing and that always puts a smile on my face.

i dont even like the song period! and i dont have the album and i have no intention of ever buying it...michael is gone and he had nothing to do with this album and the music videos so to me this isnt michael jackson album....

they need to just stop it! mike is gone and lets just enjoy the magic he created while in life

Well said. :)

I agree too.

I can't believe how many on this forum are pleased with this video. It makes me very sad.

Absolutely. What pisses me off the most is Michael's message is not showcased at all...The girl seems like she's having fun! Glamorizing Hollywood was not Mike's intention...It's a serious message and they've fucking glamorized it....

Michael Jackson is SO MUCH MORE than a glove and a hat....He's not a novelty...

After another view, I don't think its as good as I first said a while back in the thread. Its supposed to be a Michael Jackson video!! It just didn't feel like it :(
Having said that, its decent (ish) but we should be treated to more.

...

That's almost comical. Other people's genuine enjoyment of something (we're not talking mean spirited laughter about someone...) makes somebody else incredibly sad.

The people that enjoy this STILL miss Michael, but they don't get upset with someone else who is still able to feel some joy. Geez.

To discuss personal taste is useless, one can like it, or not. But to rip into other people as if they robbed a bank or decided to shove a granny down the stairs is just slightly too much. It's totally fine not to be able to enjoy something when the feeling of missing MJ takes over. But to send others on guilt trips for liking a video is a bit much as well.

I liked it. At first, the strip joint and alcohol bit kind of pissed me off because it was just a bit much for a Michael Jackson video, but then I changed my mind because that's often what those who "go Hollywood", especially females, have to do in order to make money to get studio/audition time, etc. in hopes of making it big. It was a relatively accurate portrayal of the process, but I only wish they hadn't glamourized it that much--Michael's point was that it was a bad thing, after all. The video makes it look like she's having fun.

I agree with this. For a song that wants to highlight the "dark" side of Hollywood, the video is way to cheerful.Something like "Who is It" would be more appropriate in my opinion.

I have the rip from youtube 1080i , is it allowed to upload on megaupload & posting the link right here ???? Who wants it .....

Will never have a true Michael Jackson video anymore. What made them special was Michael. We all miss Michael. What sad to me is this constant struggle between people. If you like great and if you don't that's fine too. You feel bad for liking something and you feel bad not liking something. I am getting to a point where I am almost afraid to say how I feel.

No not here, the video can be uploaded on 2000 Watts. In regards to my own opinion on the video, its ok, but its just not the same. I remember when MJ video premieres were the most exciting thing ever, now he's not here there's nothing to enjoy. It was ok.

I can't believe some people are actually trying to shame me and other fans for liking the video. I mean wtf?

I hear you. I still remember what it was like when the HIStory teaser and Scream premiered. It's an EVENT. People clued to their TV when the videos were played.

Time has changed. Michael is not here. The music industry is different. Premiering a video on youtube can never replicate the excitement of a TV premiere. For me there is not much to be excited about.

Its already uploaded in the 2000 watts forum with 2 audiostreams ;)

Please let's not have another thread of belittling poeple's opinions. If you like it, good for you. If you don't good for you. But don't start taking jabs at people (subtly or outright) because they feel differently.

Please!

Agree with you. At the same time, can people stop labelling people who don't like the video and people who are not excited negative?

The trend of labelling people negative or "debbie downer" get to be stopped too.

One cannot expect everyone to be excited and enjoy all posthumous releases. If people don't like the video, allow them to have a voice too.

The Billie Jean bassline is the only thing that annoys me a bit - actually the song sounds like a remix of "Hollywood Tonight" done by a DJ in the club. However, after listening to this version for a few times - I must say it sounds more and more "ok". :) I am glad the spoken bridge was left out, although I read the opinion that in this very moment when it should appear in the video - it would be very suitable (when the girl is dancing on a pole).
The video is very good. It tells a certain story - a kind of a "dream-come-true" for most of us - fans: go to Hollywood, to dance like Michael Jackson and touch his Hollywood Star on a Walk of Fame. The girl is so happy she can take part in this flash-mob-dance! And she is a girl fan, not a boy which is very symbolic to me. Michael has millions of female fans! It is like he was waving to us from heaven - "Hey girls, this is a tribute to all of you - all my beautiful female fans"! :)
Someone here complained that all they can see in Michael's message is a hat and a glove. I think the hat and a glove are the symbols of Michael and his message.
These are very powerful symbols. Two small things but when you are wearing it - the whole world knows to whom it belongs to and what message it carries - it's the message of love....

Edit:
I found the video with the old version of the song!!!! :-O
It sounds very, very good!!! Please, see for yourself! The spoken bridge gives the video the more dramatic impression!

Please, Estate - distribute the video in the original version! It sounds much better! :O

Exactly...Less than favourable opinions seem to be frowned upon in here...It's not always sunshine and rose opinions...Accept that...

I just watched the new video. Don't know what I was waiting exactly for... My feelings about that video actually are ambivalent.

:yes::D
That is exactly how most of the cast felt that night, 3 am in the freezing cold.
There WAS an actual flash mob cast besides the dancers- and that is exactly how we felt!

Yes, but not for THIS particular song...A hat and glove doesn't represent what Michael was trying to portray...That's not who Michael Jackson was...

My initial reaction:

The good
It looks like Sony made an effort
Some semblence of a story to the video
No spoken bridge

The bad
The annoying Billie Jean bassline/drumset/whatever the hell it is. This is not Billie Jean!. The mix in general is terrible.
Unoriginal choreography at the end, together with all the stereotypical MJ things. It looks like an 80s MJ tribute rather than a 2011 MJ video.

Overall - I dislike it.

you can say it was unoriginal choreography or you can say it was classic Michael Jackson choreography. I bet that if they included some new moves, not associated with Michael, half of the forum would have had an instant heart attack because the moves were too original and had nothing to do with MJ.

The video is nothing special, IMO. While it is slightly better that what I've expected, the video is far from the standards set by MJ himself. And my expectations were pretty low from the beginning. The video is okay. Nothing more than that. Just okay.

The new mix of HT however, is more interesting to me than the video itself. I love the fact that Michael's voice havent been autotuned/"melodyned" to death anymore. The removal of the rap section is also a good choice. However, what's going on with the Billie Jean drumset?! That's just awful.

Maybe Michael did use BJ as a reference for this track, but I don't think he'd ever approve to sample one of his own tracks in a new song. Michael was all about innovation and reinventing himself. This HT/BJ mashup is far from that.

It seems like they are trying as hard as possible to make Michael appear like a one hit wonder (or a one record wonder), when that couldn't been further from the truth. And that does make me a bit sad.

With that said; I do like the untouched vocals and the new bridge. What I'm left with, are two versions of this songs, neither that sounds perfect to me. The vocals from the music video and the beatboxing from the album verson - that would make a killer track.

Wow, mj really sounds different here compared to the album version, lol @ the censoring at the beginning of the 2nd verse

I said my opinion at page 7 and I stand by it. Now I post to correct some fellow members that talk about "billie jean bassline" when actyally it is not bassline but drumset. (I don't think you suggest that the ht bassline now has the same sound as bj's bassline?)
