Album sales/any way of finding out how well thriller 25 has done so far?

I have been getting a few copies of Thriller 25 a day, not just one version, but all versions... EVERY STORE in Harrisburg, PA was SOLD OUT when I went last night. LOL

They said they were all expecting more tomorrow (today).

I'm going to WalMart tomorrow i hope i can find a copy, waiting to the weekend has me nervous but i just got paid today.

From HitsDailyDouble:

Jack Johnson continues to ride the waves of digital sales into another week at #1, with between 140-150k in sales for his Brushfire/Universal album, Sleep Through the Static.
The real story is at #2, where Sony Legacy’s deluxe 25th anniversary reissue of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, will rack up between 110-120k, not bad for an album first released in 1983.

Wow if Billboard allows it to rechart on the main 200 at no.2 that would be something, i don't think they have ever let a catalogue album rechart on the main chart, i mean obviously it's going to be no.1 on the catalog chart but i would be stunned if they made this move of allowing it to chart on the 200 as well.

LOL:lol: That's pretty awesome but why have you bought one everyday?

I bought my copy of the deluxe version today.
I compared 3 places, that had it in stock---Target/JB HiFi/Sanity
Prices varied between $23---$30---some had the ordinary version only.
I ended up with a deluxe version.
Just something I wondered about----the back cover of the version I bought, shows Michael in the white suit---but there was a loose leaf of paper that has the track list on it for the CD and DVD.
Is the loose leaf with every copy????? just curious.

I didn't open any of mine yet. So, I don't have an answer for you Dawn :(

Nevermind ... two peoples already answered ya ...

with Walmart.. I go to two different ones often..

ONE had 4 in display in the new release section..

2 Delux (in a box with Num. One DVD)
2 Standard edition

Then the next day I went to another Walmart, and they did not even have ANYTHING thriller, infact the only album they had was ESSENCIALS and that was in the Janet Jackson slot.. No MJ ANYWHERE.. I was pissed.

Not that I was gonna buy more, but I knew that some people that would just buy it if it's in WOULD NOT, simply because most people would not go through the hassel searching stores and stores for it..

all the walmarts up here have a specific display for Thriller 25. It is located just down from the electronics area, in the center of the isle. Two of the stores had another display right next to the Thriller 25 one ... that display held Mike's entire catalogue and the combo packs.

This is way better than I had ever hoped 4.

Honestly I thought this project to be a failiure. BUT very luckily I was VEY wrong.

Michael Jackson can outsell all other artists - with a 25 year old album rerelease! That's unbelievable. Truely the King of Pop - and ever forgotten like the stupid media likes to say. Hopefully this will keep them quet for some time.

yea the loose paper is 4 the track listing because the back of the deluxe is the shiny picture lol

I went to FYE yesterday and bought the last copy they had in stock :)

Technically, it's not the same album because it has new tracks. I think that enables it to appear on the chart.

Does anyone know if this counts towards DVD sales as well?

Thriller 25 IS INDEED ALLOWED to chart on the TOP 200!
That's for sure! ;)

the reasons are simple:

it contains ONLY 5 remixes OF OLD songs (some of them using demo versions of the original)

plus 1 never-before-relased OLD song, "For All Time"

the DVD also contains NOTHING NEW

this is why fans don't get so much bonus tracks, unreleased things etc. as they probably wanted ;)

SonyBMG and Mike himself want to increase the success of the original album 1982 THRILLER

any sales of THRILLER 25 will be added to the sales of the original 1982 album THRILLER ;)

(the same thing already happened with the 2001 Thriller Special Edition, its sales are also added to the original)

Korgnex :punk:

I want to get the deluxe version, but how do I know that's what I'm getting?? I heard someone say that walmart has the deluxe with the number ones DVD, but I thought someone said that wasn't the deluxe version of Thriller 25. I guess maybe it said deluxe on it cause it was with the DVD maybe???

Did any of that make sense?

What is special or different about the deluxe one... different cover or more songs??

Special edition has a special booklet (48 pages). It has a hardcover. DVD and CD are inside this bookled (inside both sides of the cover).

Every version has got CD and DVD, these booklet is the only difference. But it's worth buying! (You can distinguish them by covers: "Classic" version has got Michael in white suit on both sides of the cover, "Zombie" version has got zombies in the front and Michael - warewoolf on the other side, "Deluxe" version has got zombies in the front and Michael in white suit in the back side).

Based on this weeks sales up through Friday, the "Hot Adult Contemporary" charts it is predicted to be:

#1 - Amy Winehouse - Back To Black (UMGD/Universal) (397% increase in sales)
#2 - Jack Johnson - Sleep Through the Static (UMGD/Universal) (28% decrease in sales)
#3 - Michael Jackson - Thriller 25th Anniversary Edition (SBME/Legacy) (New entry)

Furthermore, the "Top 40 Mainstream" charts it is predicted to be:

#1 - Michael Jackson - Thriller 25th Anniversary Edition (SBME/Legacy)
#2 - Alicia Keys - As I Am (SBME/RCA)
#3 - Sheryl Crow - Detours (UMGD/Universal)

This is preliminary and subject to change...

Keeping my fingers crossed (and making sure I pick up the Walmart special Monday to help the finger crossed thingy).

Which one of these are the most important, I mean the one sony wants us to beat?^_^

The BIGGEST chart, at least within the U.S., would definitely be the Billboard 200. It's based exclusively on album sales (digital and retail). Right now, Jack Johnson is the one to beat. His album came out last week and is at #1 (and predicted to remain #1 on Billboard 200 next week); Amy Winehouse is also a possible champion this week after a massive increase in sales via the Grammy performance.

I know there's been a lot of confusion as to whether-or-not Thriller 25 is even chartable on the Billboard 200 since it's a reissue of an old album, I'd assume it is but haven't done any research to confirm how it all works. There are soooo many charts in each country based on so many different criteria, it's kind of crazy.... But Thriller 25 is doing real well, that much is for sure. Everything else (chart-wise) will be officially confirmed by next Tuesday/Wednesday.

^^ I got say tho' I can't believe that some stores ordered only 20 copies, or even 100  Even if they didn't expect T25 to do well surely they have seen all the publicity on TV, magazines etc heck even channel's that I didn't think they would be positive on MJ and this project were, especially considering the stores are in the States. So its a bit annoying anyway at the mo' it seems like Jack Johnson, Amy Winehouse and that Jazz bloke that won a Grammy are also doing well in iTunes and even amazon. They don't have the 'limited stock' issue which may make it very difficult for T25 to get to the top.

I was hoping for a bigger surge on T25 on Amazon but its still steady. If T25 was outselling them on Amazon for e.g then the 'stock' issue will not have been too bad.

I am glad tho' that despite all this T25 is still not too far behind. I hope that the promos will continue at a bigger level going into next week so that even if it doesn't get to the top, peeps will still be wanting it and by the no 'stock issue' should be a factor.

Thanx for all the update TCSM. :flowers: Lets keep buying there is still time yall :p

^ SO so far with 36% in it has around 160 thousand sold?? that's great..

If that is the correct number we are looking at over 400 thousand all together.. A little less than 440 thousand.

160,000 is 36% of 440,000
