Dangerous 25: what would you like to see happen? [UNCONFIRMED]

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

It depends on what it includes. If there would be demos, unreleased songs and new concert release then I would be excited.

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

They really should.

After all, they must know that we, MJ's fans, are loyal and would promote the album for free. They could literally release it effortlessly and it would still sell well.
I don't know about that. I didn't see a lot of promoting from fans for the recent OTW release. :(

True, but I think things will be different for Dangerous 25 considering that for MJ stans/fans it's currently the most anticipated anniversary release. :)

Well, so was Bad25 and it didn't do all that well even though it had everything the fans wanted. If D25 were to be released as most fans envision it, its main audience would be pretty hardcore fans and I don't think they are enough in numbers to ever satisfy the Estate in terms of sales and profits. They want to aim for a much broader audience - the OTW reissue is a good example of that. So I'm afraid there won't be a Dangerous 25 the way we want it..
Anyway, if they'd announce it I'd be very excited - but prepared to be disappointed at the same time.

But did Bad25 really have everything the fans wanted?
I see Bad25 be both loved and criticised on here. :)
Either way you can't please everyone, so the goal is to please the majority.

Every release will always be both loved and criticized because as you say, you can't please everyone. But Bad25 was surely aimed at the (more hardcore) fans and it didn't sell as well as they'd hoped for, that was my point and that's why I don't think they'll take that route again (and why we need a collectors label).

You're correct, but how do you think they'd go about making Dangerous25 appeal to a larger audience?
Also a collectors label is a fascinating idea.
I'm honestly surprised that MJ doesn't already have a collectors label.

I don't know, I'm not a marketeer lol. But there's not a whole lot of people willing to pay for behind the scenes footage, rehearsal footage, untouched demo's etc. - the things hardcore hard fans go nuts over. Add those and your audience will become smaller, while the price of the package goes up.. So, either keep it clean and simple or somehow 'contemporize' it, I'm afraid?
I am surprised as well.. maybe it will take some more time. I really hope there will be one eventually.

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

I think we need to step back from anniversary issues for awhile. Bad 25 is the best posthumous release by far even with the vhs release. The music was superb. I hope the move on to a new album. Give us some of the tracks he was close to releasing red one tracks and whatever else there is from his last years. I'm not saying drain the vault but come on give us the goods. The longer they wait the more dated they become. Off the wall reissue was nothing really and I'm done buying repackaged material. I hear there is talk about something for thriller around Halloween don't know what it could be but I think now is not the right time for that either. Surprise us and drop a new album please I'm board.

From what I've seen there seems to be a bit of a tie between Xscape and Bad25 for best posthumous release.

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

Oh that vault can never be drain to many golden nuggets in there that we will never see.

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

I kinda feel like some kind of Thriller/Halloween tie-in is going to happen at some point.

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

I will not be excited or the h word if there is a Dangerous 25. Since thanks to that evil monster I truly lost those feelings. Maybe for good.:( But it with being an MJ item I will get it. But I will not be able to enjoy it or whatever. Since it will probably just end up in my big green container. Along with a good number of my other MJ items. Out of the hopes I will never have to see it again.:( :boohoo I have MJ items in that container that still has the plastic wrap on it. Like the Michael album and that visions thing or whatever it was called. I still don't even know why even bother on getting those items. Since 99.5% of my MJ fandom is now gone from me. And I really don't know if it is ever going to return.:(

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

Honestly, if they don't do Dangerous 25, I probably will be disappointed. They have such an excellent opportunity to shine the light on one of Michael's most incredible and, unfortunately, overlooked albums of his career.

I don't even care if it only sells 10,000 copies or or even fails to make the Top 40 (and honestly, I think this fanbase needs to kickback on the sales/charts obsession), if I can see other artists continuously put together amazing packages for reissues and anniversary editions of their albums that do even worse than Bad 25 did, theres no reason why MJ's Estate can't for what is, imo, his greatest album.

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

^Exactly. Michael is gone and it will never be the same as it was when he was still here. They should focus on preserving his legacy in the long run, that's definitely what his work deserves.. I hope his Estate will see it that way too but so far they seem to be more concerned about commercial value than artistic value. I know they're a business and they need to make money too but there should at least be a good balance between the two.

Re: How would you react if MJ's estate announced Dangerous 25?

If they made something like BAD25 - for the fans mostly - then I would be very happy.

Dangerous 2 disc release - disc 1 just the original - disc 2 (like BAD25) new songs and demo versions of songs.

A doc with studio footage, live footage, interviews with MJ - new footage etc.

A new concert release - less noise (no whistle ?!!?) less fan shots - another set-list. BAD and TWYMMF maybe? - Blu-Ray if possible - meaning if the mastertape is not up to Blu-Ray quality then theres no need in upscaling or something like that. - Just release the concert in best possible quality both picture and sound wise!

Maybe a live CD. - Even though some songs was playback during Dangerous Tour a live CD could still be great. - Billie Jean, Beat It, WBSS, J5 medley, IJCSLY, SOOML, WBSS, HN was all live - so that's something. - If they could mix live vocals from rehearsals into it maybe it could work on the CD. (Heal the World was great live at the rehearsal!)

If The Estate announced a release like this (or something like it) I would be very very happy (and surprised...)

If the announce something like OTW I will not care much. a re-re-re-re-re-release of Dangerous with no new demos, songs etc. haave absolutely no interest what so ever...

If they released a new doc - That would be nice. A D25 doc would be very intresting - and there most be more studio footage in 1990-1991 than in the OTW era or BAD era... So a new doc could have a lot of never before seen footage which would be nice.

A few years ago, there was a thread on Lipstick Alley where Timbaland (or another producer, don't quote me on this) was quoted as tweeting that he was working on Dangerous unreleased material.

You are probably referring to the Timbaland’s work on the ‘Dangerous’ unreleased material that was eventually included on the ‘Xscape’ album.

The songs are ‘Do You Know Where Your Children Are’ & ‘Slave To The Rhythm’, (both of them did not make the ‘Dangerous’ album).

The estate pretty much has three options with Dangerous25 - go all out with the contents, deliver something small and cheap, or do nothing whatsoever. Each one poses its own unique set of challenges and drawbacks.

Going all out would almost guarantee a loss of profit, which unfortunately is something the estate has to worry about until the end of their Sony contract next year, and is a big likelihood. Bad25 was a huge project with various special editions and features but almost certainly lost Sony a pretty penny afterwards. Off the Wall seems to have been made for cheap but still didn't light up the charts. It's unfortunately a problem that the estate has to take into consideration with every project they execute for the next year or two.

Delivering something small and cheap would also be a poor idea. So many fans are foolishly wishing for something lavish - tours, behind-the-scenes DVDs, three discs of material, etc. They're going to be incredibly upset when that isn't what we get, and the backlash will be pretty intense if it's another Off the Wall that offers nothing in the way of new material at all.

At most I would expect exactly that - another Off the Wall 2015 with new packaging. Perhaps we'll get lucky and get a second disc of new music, but I'm willing to bet everything I own that we will not be getting anything major.

Apparently all of a sudden most of Dangerous has been pulled from Spotify, with only a couple of songs remaining. This is only in the USA though, because I am outside of the USA and still have all of the album on my Spotify. In the US however apparently here is how it looks now.

I am putting this information here for now, because I wonder if it is a sign of something that has to do with the topic of this thread.

1 cd with the original album, 1 cd with outtakes and 1 dvd with either a concert or a making of. That will do it for me and would hardly be costly for the estate or sony. They have made so much money posthumously so they can afford to do a project like this. They need to think long term.

Damn you scared me for a second haha, thankfully it's still here in NZ. It could be a sign, leading up to the Pipes of Peace reissue, the original versions were also removed off Spotify.

However, I remember it was the entirety of the album that was removed (you could only play select songs like Say Say Say from a greatest hits for example). This is an odd selection of songs to keep.

I just want a new documentary with studio footage and a new concert!! Damn, can you imagine seeing Michawl recording songs like WYBT or Who Is It??

for me its all about either new music or new footage... unseen footage takes me far.. To me what makes a good documentary is some interesting stories and footage.. footage footage footage.. can be live footage, in studio, or even him talking to people lol!..
