Gary Mayor to Announce "Move Forward" For Jackson Center *Merged*

Re: Michael Jackson Performing Arts Center - announcement for "a major move forward" expected 6/2/10

Hello,

^ of course....if we look at Joe's track record.

I have recently read that the Jacksons don't own the 2300 Jackson street home. Do we know why? I cannot imagine Joe & Katherine would sell that house to anyone. But it seems to be true.
Anyone know, When was it sold?

Did they buy it at one point?

Re: Michael Jackson Performing Arts Center - announcement for "a major move forward" expected 6/2/10

i am gonna wait and see .
no comment at this point.

Re: Gary Mayor to Announce "Move Forward" For Jackson Center

legit question:do ppl really want to go to Gary,Indiana?

taken from other sites:
"I'm sorry but I really don't think this is going to create long standing jobs or anything. People do not want to go to Gary, and I don't blame them. I've lived close enough to that city to not want much to do with it. :\"

"i live in indianapolis and have to drive through gary to get to chicago
and my family and i hate it so much we take a plane now, just to avoid gary- it's that bad."
"I'm the reverse of you. I'm in Chicago and have to drive through to get to Indianapolis. It's so awful. I also don't think pictures convey the smell either."

now a Jackson museum is fine but I don't see 1 million ppl going there every year to play golf and w/e Joe and the major have in mind...kinda delusional...

^ Nice.

Can they reprint these copyrighted images (MJ silhouette and the Dangerous mask) without permission?

There is a web address at the bottom of the monument, wonder what it is.

Hello,

I read Katherine Jackson biography, and yes they own Gary's house and she said that she have never wanted to sell them after they moved at LA ; it was their first home -

I was just reading some of the comments from, I'm guessing, the folks who live in and around Gary and I'm learning things I didn't know before.

Some of the comments address the Mayor and his "Hummer." (Seems like some of the voters think he's corrupt.)

Some of the comments address the safety of Gary and how any tourist should worry about their safety. (I had no idea things were that bad.)

Some of the comments address concerns as to WHO will be funding this project. (Some are apparently concerned that their tax dollars will somehow be involved.)

One person talked about the MJ Monument at 2300 Jackson Street and how it's big enough for children to hide behind in case of a drive-by shooting. (AGAIN, I had no idea things were that bad in Gary.)

The deed lists someone else's name. Katherine, nor Joe's name appear on the deed.

I had no idea either. Wow, that's sad. :(

Re: Michael Jackson Performing Arts Center - announcement for "a major move forward" expected 6/2/10

Ok, so.. just to make sure I understood this:

1) The monument was originally done and stablished at Gary back in July 2009.

2) The monument was moved to MJ's house.

3) Joe and Co. have unveiled the monument now in front of the old house (but this is not new, it's the one of 2009).

4) A press conference is to be done at some point today, but nothing is clear yet about how all this "museum" thing will end.

5) Now it is definitively a museum FOR MICHAEL, not for the JACKSON FAMILY.

Am I right?

I tried zooming in but still can't make out the web address. Is it normal for the makers of the monument to include their info so obviously (if that's what it is)?

Re: Michael Jackson Performing Arts Center - announcement for "a major move forward" expected 6/2/10

I distinctly remember reading about the current owner (or resident) of the house some time ago. Seems it was a member of the extended family, but not closely related. Since I can't remember where I read it, who knows if it was factual.

maybe he was at some documentary? mmm.... maybe one hosted by BBC last year? I have that feeling too...but I do not remember very well, it was someone of the extende family, yes.

Re: Michael Jackson Performing Arts Center - announcement for "a major move forward" expected 6/2/10

Didn't Michael own the house and then give it to some relative, like an uncle or something?

Re: Michael Jackson Performing Arts Center - announcement for "a major move forward" expected 6/2/10

I think if I remember rightly one of the cousins lived in 2300 or lived there until very recently.

Re: Michael Jackson Performing Arts Center - announcement for "a major move forward" expected 6/2/10

No offence to Joe, but I think he should let someone else run this, we all know what hes like with business...
I hope it all goes well though :)[/QUOTE

Yup..I agree with you..Michael himself has said that when it comes to business..Joe has troubles..and that he does bad business....that came right out of Michael's own mouth.

Right ! I just read it few minutes ago in washington post
" Jackson family home (2300 Jackson St.). The performer grew up in a modest house that until recently was inhabited by a cousin."

but that doesn't tell us who is the owner - the Jacksons would be allowed to do what they do if they were not the owners ?

Post-Tribune staff report

Gary Mayor Rudy Clay and members of the Jackson family announced plans for a Jackson Family center to be located near the Borman Expressway at a City Hall press conference this morning.

The plans include a museum, concert hall, pavilion, dining options and hotel. A feasibility study will be done this year for the complex, with the plan being to break ground early next year.

Earlier today, Gary's Board of Public Works and Safety transferred property between the Borman Expressway, 35th Avenue, Grant Street and Broadway to the Jackson Family Foundation Wednesday for use for a Jackson Family museum, performing arts center, concert hall and pavilion.

Plans also leave open the possibility of a casino near the site, though no gaming license is currently available.

The transaction was made minutes before a press conference announcing the project was set to begin. Michael Jackson's famous tunes were piping through City Hall speakers.

Jackson's Hometown Moves Ahead With Museum Plans
Michael Jackson's hometown of Gary, Ind., moves ahead with plans for $300 million museum

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=10807669

The mayor of Michael Jackson's hometown says crews will break ground as early as next year on a museum and arts center dedicated to the city's most famous former resident.

Mayor Rudy Clay says the Jackson Family Museum and Hotel and the Michael Jackson Performing Arts and Cultural Center and Theaters in Gary, Ind., will cost about $300 million.

The mayor says the money will come from investors and donations, but the city is donating 300 acres of land for the project.

Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, attended a Wednesday news conference in Gary. He says he's carrying on his son's legacy by making sure the project comes to fruition.

Michael Jackson was last in Gary in 2003 to talk about the project, but nothing had happened since then.

The plans include a museum, concert hall, pavilion, dining options and hotel. A feasibility study will be done this year for the complex, with the plan being to break ground early next year.

A FEASIBILITY STUDY. LOL! Shouldn't a "feasibility" study be completed before you start transferring land and talking about breaking ground? (I have no idea about these things, I'm just asking.)

Oh and what happens if the feasibility study ends up revealing a negative conclusion. Then what?

P.S. everytime they talk about this project, they end by saying: "the plan being to break ground early next year." (Or words to that effect.)

A feasibility study will be done this year for the complex

their plan is just B.S.

they announced the same plan several months ago.

$300 million ? LOL from Joe's pocket ?

That IS a major move forward...these things take time :timer:

It would be GREAT if Indiana University (on neighboring property) would connect their Performing Arts program to the MJ Performing Arts Center :)

That would hopefully assure that everything is done above board and bring in some funding, not to mention the kids who might be inspired to enroll :cheeky:

My guess is that Joe would be more interested in the possibility of a casino near the site
