Jacksons: The Next Generation [REALITY SHOW DISCUSSION ONLY]

Im surprised anyone would allow themselves to be shown like this, not a good look.

ITA. I hope she's watching the show because she's coming off as a self centered, argumentative witch (and I'm using witch instead of the other word to be kind).

Maybe she doesn't see it this way?

SoS, thanks for posting the clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kReLldmx0ds

Now it's coming clearer. It's not the "Jacksons" name that got them in the door with a recording contract, it was MICHAEL Jackson's name. I think they greatly overestimate the effect of a Jackson name, one way or another, and seem to use it as an excuse pretty often. I can see how Michael's issues with Sony could get in the way of their success, but I hardly think that Janet's wardrobe malfunction had any effect on them whatsoever? It's the music-buying and concert-going public that determine the success of any music. Do people want to dance to it, sing to it, listen to it in their cars? Whether or not someone's aunt had visible nipple during a live performance (seriously?) should not be used as an excuse for -- anything. I don't think anyone says, "I think I won't buy this album because these dudes' aunt had a wardrobe malfunction!"

:fear: I just listened to "Why" (via YouTube) and to be frank, I wouldn't want to buy it or listen to it in my car and it had Mike in it! Their sound reminds me of Nsync, 98 Degrees and the Backstreet Boys. I couldn't stomach that sound when it was new and fresh and I sure as hell couldn't stomach it 2 decades later.

Maybe it's the genre they're trying to tap into that isn't jiving with their talent? I know the show is supposed to restart their career, but they need to seriously re-think going in a different direction.

Whatever else they may have learned from their uncle Michael, they missed out on his 'reputed' love for the works of Robbie Burns, particularly:

O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.
(O would some power the gift to give us to see ourselves as others see us.)

The producers of this show must be rubbing their hands with glee at so much backbiting , dissent and 'tabloid fodder' being displayed. Strange that 'Bonding' seems to be the theme of every episode. Perhaps they should apply it to their lips! (as in 'glueing shut!!)

Boy bands rarely transition to adult stars. There are a few exceptions, but usually NOT. ^^ That's why I think Tito's suggestion was so good -- record music written by OTHER people. I feel badly for these guys that they really have had to endure a lot, with the death of their mother, and then Michael, but it's painful to see them try to work out in public painfully intimate stuff that would be better dealt with in private? With so much ambivalence about recording new material, I really doubt that this is going to jump-start their music careers -- but -- they DO get paid for this series. . . .

I hadn't watched that video of the Reunion reality but I knew the nephews blamed Michael and Janet for their unsuccessful come back in the early 2000s because it was reported in the media last year which was pretty lame. I see how the issues Michael had with Sony affected their record release but blaming over their aunt and uncle's problems even though they were being unfairly treated by the media, well, Michael was pretty much lynched is cringe worthy. If they couldn't make a long career in the show business, they should have moved on having regular jobs as Sheila said.

Taryll`s girlfriend at least came across very demanding, along the lines of "just pay for it I don`t care, refrigarator for 7000!, the planning and costs (of the renovation) is mens work. Taryll didn`t make a "budget" for studio equipment, so why is he doing it now for the house, in the end I will get it, he knows how to make me happy" and so on, ...

Quite enjoyed the rest of the show, the only really interesting stuff was Hayvenhurst snippets and studio work.

About the music style of 3T: Maybe they could do some "european" uptempo music with outside producers, not always ballads (for example with RedOne, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, Stargate,...)

I could picture them singing something like this from OneRepublic - If i lose myself https://youtu.be/2aFKSBO7F4g or even something more electronic like RedOne would probably deliver, for the sake of example, Straight trough my heart from BSB produced by RedOne: https://youtu.be/CHyjUcIzhvQ

What do you think? :)

So are the quotes overall good or bad ?

I don't know if overall 876 thousand viewers is good or bad, but I'm hoping it is good enough for the network so 3T doesn't have to ask Paris to appear to it.

I was thinking there was no articles at all from second episode, and to be honest, it is kind of snooze fest for anyone who doesn't follow or know 3T, so it is unlikely that they will get more viewers as it is now. If network is not happy with those numbers, they will ask 3T to up their game, and I think that would be getting Paris. Ps, I hope I'm wrong in this one.

She doesn't seem to mind too much, maybe it was decided that she was strong enough to be the Scott Dissick of the show! Lol. It can't all be campfires and bonding, need some drama to make a good 'reality show'. That's not a slight on this show as such, just all reality shows that are not very real and mostly scripted and contrived.

Talking of drama, looks like the Tanya issue will be strung out for awhile. Still don't know why they can't just ask their Dad!

I can't agree more. They are quick to talk about the 'Jackson legacy' and how it (mainly Michael) changed people's lives, but I had hoped to see what THEY are doing to 'make the world a better place'. Surely if they have studio equipment that is not being used, they could be finding and mentoring some new talent, in the way that Michael mentored them.

Maybe someone can tell Breana that when she is an old lady, her children won't be saying 'our mum was great, she always made sure we had the most expensive kitchen hob'. Why not save a bit of money and spend the difference on going out for a fun family weekend away that the children will remember?

Here is a synopsis of a documentary appearing on UK TV tonight, to compare and contrast:
In 1965 Roger Graef made a film about a boy born with no arms because his mother had taken thalidomide. 50 years on, he travels to Australia and finds that Brett Nielsen (who doesn't regard himself as disabled ) has no need of the prostheses he was trying out back then because he can cook, drive, shop, produce records and play music perfectly well without them, as well as raising a son and daughter. When Graef visits , Nielsen is making an album, building a home extension for his dad and (for the first time) campaigning for other thalidomide victims.

After 2 episode, I have not seen anything that how they are going to carry on Jackson legacy, unless they mean buying an expensive fridge, or going on camping on Maliby beach and talking about carrying on Jackson legacy? Maybe it all will be revealed coming episodes:)

Bubs you are right i have not seen how their will carry on the Jackson legacy either. It more of what 3T want to do either their want to go back into the studio or do their want to move on. Taryll is the only one who want the group to get back together TJ and Taj are still not sure.

Little bit ott, but I was thinking how hard it is to be singer/songwriter and perhaps it is better to have back-up plan in case things don't go according to plans

I came across this article earlier and was thinking how much money can any band make out there if smash hit songwriter gets only that?

Yes, Taryl and the brothers are producer of the show, they can decide what will make the cut for the show. Normaly you can say I would not want that my wife is presented in a bad light. But it`s obviously a topic for the show and Breana plays her role. And this twitterexschange is part of the aftershow.

If they seamed perfect on the show they would have been considered 'fake' and when they show actual family issues they are doing something wrong.. lol! No matter what they will be picked on..

^^^ Idk, TJ and Frances seem blissfully happy and no one is questioning it.

I don't make it a habit, in general, of watching reality shows -- but with the few I've seen, it's hard to tell what's real and what's scripted for dramatic effect? One of those shows is the one starring "little people" (Little Women?) on Lifetime, where the majority of the shows seem to be endless arguments, back-stabbing, and gossip. I've also seen a couple of episodes of the Housewives of Orange County, and those women are MEAN, and don't seem to have anything better to do than endless arguing, back-stabbing, and gossip. And so with 3-T, it's hard to know what's real and what's manufactured for dramatic effect? The DRAMA seems to be necessary for ratings, and if it's not there, it can be invented? No way to know, is there?

I agree with that. I don't watch them either, but you really don't have to, since the entertainment shows and even the mainstream news morning shows let you know all the drama that is going on-I think I've seen the Housewives scene where they flip over tables and slap each other silly about a billion times-
and I've never seen the real show. The more drama, the better the ratings-and that equals money. Look at the Kardashians, they've turned this whole thing into a huge gold mine.

I've only watched the Jackson Brothers show and the LaToya's show on OWN. And have to say I died laughing, when Jermaine went into the real reason that he stayed behind at Motown, and they all said they didn't understand before, and cried. Like, they haven't read their own books, or their own interviews, or never saw "The Jacksons, An American Dream?" hahaha

(and from reading this, I guess I'm the only one who didn't think Jeffre was gay. :( ) I was sorry that didn't work out, even though the engagement/proposal was acted out for the cameras. I just figured they had been "together" in real life for years.

^^^ Oh, and Jermaine was on that wife-swap reality show. His new "wife" was completely appalled by the amount of CLOTHING he had, which looked like a clothes-hoarding situation -- it was actually a storage issue, he had so much. She tried to make a rule that he get rid of some of it, and he totally refused to part with anything. So, he's getting money from SOMEWHERE, if he can buy all that?

My point is, if drama doesn't exist with 3-T, they're likely to invent it? There's just no way to know what's REAL. . . .

:lmao: I had to Google that name, lol! Sorry, but my "reality" show knowledge is very limited (Duck Dynasty and MCFH). As for the "is she or isn't she" sister issue, they don't need Tito to tell them anything. They need Maury Povich to run a DNA test on his show... :hysterical:

Lol, oh please no!

I think to watch and follow and get drawn into any reality tv you have to not question or think and just roll with the 'drama'. I'm enjoying this show but the whole 'staged reality' irritates me. In this thread it can be mistaken for criticism of the T's - but it's not, they are just following the reality tv blueprint.

I think it's only a 6 episode show but they'd probably like to be picked up for an additional season.
I like this Maury idea. Lol. Maybe they can do some kind of cross over show! Pump up the drama. Put Alejandra on the show. Haha.

I watched part of the kardashian show once and Scott was the only character I liked. This was a few years ago so I don't know if he was the "villain" then.

Bahahahahahahahahahahaa, great idea! That'll raise their ratings, especially if Tito does this dance after Maury tells him "you are NOT the father!"
